Ideas for dealing with sweat and odour in thigh creases?

KeyleftinCar · 03/05/2026 00:20

Not really sure how to make this post but I'm desperate for some ideas so here goes!

My thigh creases/pits keep stinking. It's a horrible unclean/unwashed sort of smell mixed with BO that's really unpleasant. I shower every morning, make sure I'm properly dry and use antiperspirant (not in my groin obvs) as well as changing my underwear twice a day and it still happens every summer. It seems to start as soon as I get warm and a bit moist in that area.

I moved today at work and got a waft of it that almost made me gag ☹️☹️ I'm a size 28 currently after a period of ill health and medication but I'm working to slowly lose weight in a sustainable way because I know that's not helping.

I've just seen whole body deodorant from Dove- has anyone tried it? I already use plain bar soap but I'm genuinely thinking about trying hibiscrub once a week to see it it'll help

Any other ideas please? I really don't want to stink like this for the entire summer!

I use roll on dove and antiperspirant spray together one alone is not enough.
I would try it in your other creases. Give it a try. Unless someone comes and says that is a no.

Yellowcakestand · 03/05/2026 00:28

I use talc on mine.

I use talc on mine.

Isn't it advised not to use talc talc in your groin due to a link to cancers?

I've tried cornstarch dusting powder and it really didn't help. It also made me really sore.

Thanks! Really not keen to use a spray but I'll give a roll on a try!

And @Yellowcakestand I was going to ask this too, but maybe they changed the ingredients because of all the court cases?

Are you able to see what the skin look like in the folds? If it's red/inflamed/sore then I think you would have intertrigo and it would be worth speaking to a pharmacist about getting an antifungal cream or a hydrocortisone cream. I'm not an expert though.

Liquid talc (Asda sell it, baby section) might help

CloseEncountersOfTheLoveKind · 03/05/2026 00:49

Bicarb of soda

Glitterbiscuits · 03/05/2026 00:51

Wash with HIbiscrub first, it will kill any lingering bacteria. It great stuff

Then I’d try Cutitcura medicated talc.

The4teddybears · 03/05/2026 02:42

I second the above post re hibisctub anti bacterial wash. It’ll kill the bacteria/ fungus that’s causing the smell. When I was heavier I had the same problem and I noticed a considerable improvement when I started using it. I’d also suggest using proper soap if you are currently shower gel. Hibiscrub has to be used diluted. I diluted mine and stored in an old rinsed out hand soap bottle to ensure I didn’t accidentally use it too concentrated on sensitive areas. I also used it on my feet and it cleared my athletes foot too.

Liquid talc. You can get it on Amazon. It goes on like a lotion then dries to a light talc.

ineededanewnameitsbeentoolong · 03/05/2026 06:28

Are you clothes cotton/linen/other natural materials?
If you are wearing polyster/polycotton, there is little you can do about odour as you are basically wearing plastic.

Roystonv · 03/05/2026 06:47

I use baby oil when needed.

Lararoft · 03/05/2026 06:54

Check or get a practice nurse to check for fungal issues in the folds as you may need some canestan cream - this is what can cause offensive odours.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 03/05/2026 06:58

I’d try switching your shower gel out for proper soap - the non scented basic type, something like this https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/essential-sensitive-soap-bars/476197-568700-568701

and use some canestan/daktarin antifungal cream for a while, I bet there’s a bit of an infection these.

be careful with hibiscrub, it’s quite harsh.

Lavendar01 · 03/05/2026 07:03

Where can one buy hibiscus from and does it come in the form of body wash ?

Glitterbiscuits · 03/05/2026 07:57

@Lavendar01 I got it from Amazon. It’s now about £20 a bottle. We used it when one of our teenagers had very smelly feet! Genuinely cured it overnight. It’s the same thing that surgeons use is pre-operations.

Ginorchoc · 03/05/2026 07:59

I take deodorant wipes on holiday with me, they smell really good. I’ll see if I can find them.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 03/05/2026 08:03

Medicated talc is a good call. Talc is ok as long as you aren’t flapping it about as people used to. Put it on a pad and pat or wipe it where you need it.

Is the elastic of your pants causing irritation? If so, try and get ones that fit differently. I use shorts now, so the elastic doesn’t irritate the fold.

Roll on is good, as is baby oil. It needs to be dry, basically. Baby oil acts like a barrier.

Sgtmajormummy · 03/05/2026 08:07

Sudocrem- it’s a real cure-all.
It creates a barrier between skin layers and helps it heal. Use cotton underwear and airy clothes to avoid dampness.

TheLargeOnes · 03/05/2026 08:13

Make sure you use bar soap, then have a second lather up with head and shoulders. Leave the lather on your skin for 2 mins then rinse. Make sure your underwear is cotton not synthetic. Put Dettol antibacterial in the wash when you do your underwear. Sudocrem in folds. Also are you washing your bits/pubic hair properly?

Chocolateteabag · 03/05/2026 08:34

I sometimes get this - and I’m size 12 - inner thigh crease gets very whiffy by lunchtime even when I’ve showered that morning.

I make sure I’ve washed and rinsed myself (rushing a shower is pointless) and I swipe roll on or stick deodorant down the creases
which has the added benefit of helping my chub rub
anti bacterial wipes if I’m out and about and it’s a hot day

ItsJustMeMyself · 03/05/2026 08:37

I know this will sound silly but I promise you it has worked for me and others.

Reduce, significantly, any carb foods in your diet. They promote inflammation, yeasts and other bacteria that cause odour.

prettydesertflower · 03/05/2026 08:40

Sounds like it could be dead skin build up. Any toner with salicylic acid will get rid of it. There are pads you can get that have it ready soaked in for acne that work just as well.
