Ideas for dealing with sweat and odour in thigh creases?

KeyleftinCar · 03/05/2026 00:20

Not really sure how to make this post but I'm desperate for some ideas so here goes!

My thigh creases/pits keep stinking. It's a horrible unclean/unwashed sort of smell mixed with BO that's really unpleasant. I shower every morning, make sure I'm properly dry and use antiperspirant (not in my groin obvs) as well as changing my underwear twice a day and it still happens every summer. It seems to start as soon as I get warm and a bit moist in that area.

I moved today at work and got a waft of it that almost made me gag ☹️☹️ I'm a size 28 currently after a period of ill health and medication but I'm working to slowly lose weight in a sustainable way because I know that's not helping.

I've just seen whole body deodorant from Dove- has anyone tried it? I already use plain bar soap but I'm genuinely thinking about trying hibiscrub once a week to see it it'll help

Any other ideas please? I really don't want to stink like this for the entire summer!

I have the same problem (and under my breasts). Be cautious applying deodorant in this area; it can help the smell but really irritate the skin.

I have found washing with antibacterial bar soap (Dettol or similar) instead of body wash or shower gel, applying Inkey List Glycolic acid stick and following with MediPure medicated body powder (talc free) is helping. Hibiscrub is great too especially if the skin is sore or broken. If you are irritated and raw in these areas try an antifungal cream and try to wash and fully dry at least twice a day.

Sudocreme first,if that doesn't work then an antifungal cream like Canesten.

Op, have you checked in the folds. Does it look red and inflamed? You may need to see a doctor if you’re developing sores. As it could be infected.

Hibiscrub is very good.
I use Gillette Sports gel anti perspirant on my groin and it's brilliant- lasts all day.

100% agree with hibiscrub. I have a really tight fold behind my ears and they stink no matter how much soap I use. This stuff is the business. Works brilliantly.

Try sudocrem first, if that doesn't work then try an antifungal such as canesten. I changed to shorts to prevent the elastic from rubbing the area. Also use a hairdryer in the area after every shower to ensure all the creases are properly dry.

Hibicleans the area twice a day and dry thoroughly. Cotton knickers . If your trying to lose weight that may help . Check the area is not inflamed as it could be fungal in which case you could use canestan .

Thank you!

I only wear natural fibres, including my underwear.

No redness, just the stink 🫣

I already use bar soap and yes, I'm very careful about washing properly.

I'm very allergic to sudocream unfortunately!

I've picked some anti fungal cream up and will use it after I shower and dry myself. I've also got some cream antiperspirant to try too.

Thank you for the ideas!

Lanacane anti chafe is a godsend under boobs so might work elsewhere

WinterBlues26 · 03/05/2026 12:05

I already use bar soap

It's not Dove bar soap is it? That just moisturises rather than clean.

If none of the suggestions work it might be worth trying your GP in case you do have some sort of infection/fungal growth.
I used to have issues under my boobs and tummy on hot days when I was bigger too. I bought a tea tree and witch hazel cream off Amazon as I wanted something more natural and as long as I used it everyday it worked really well.

I use Sudocream to prevent redness and itching and chaffing

give yourself time to wash and dry properly. As you’re larger folding a towel into your creases to absorb moisture before you apply deodorants can help.

I have to do it with my belly and boobs and made a world of difference to slow down after a shower to dry properly.

I use orange scrub from lush as the citrus helps. Non scrubby variants include persimmon soap (helps with ‘old person’ smell apparently too)

stick/cream antiperspirants can do double action of stopping the sweat but also adding a base for preventing friction. I’ve used Mitchum stitck under my boobs and cleavage to deal with that (I’m a welder so I get HOT and gross)

buy washable sweat pads. You can get them on amazon and they just wash in the machine on hot. You attach them to your clothing either sew them in or use double sided clothing/tit tape. You can get disposable ones too. If you can wick the moisture away from those areas it’ll help.

make sure you don’t have a fungal infection. See a GP and treat it if you have. These can happen to anyone.

internally some foods can make you just smell bad. There could be something in your diet that’s making you stinkier too. Different people it will be different things. I know if I eat fatty foods or dairy (cheese, yoghurt, rich seafood like mackerel and salmon) I’m stinkier because I don’t digest fats well. You can tell I’ve eaten the wrong food!

are you dehydrated? Drink more water and see if that can help. I’m foul when I’ve not drank enough and it can take a few days to correct it.

are you in perimenopause? that can make you honk. Not your fault, it’s hormones.

your clothes might just need replacing. Or a decent deep cleaning.
this isn’t to say your laundry isn’t clean but sometimes especially if we sweat a lot fabrics need more heavy duty/intensive cleaning to get rid of the stink or replacing all together.
i had bath towels that just had a gross funk even when washed.

a deep cleaning of my washing machine and a deep clean of the towels fixed the problem

Same! Any zinc based barrier cream will work as OP is allergic.
