If you have sleep headphones what do you listen to?

Had some sleep headphones a few months ago for my birthday. Usually listen to rain noise, white noise or sleep sounds but getting a bit bored of them. I have Amazon Alexa which apparently have lots of different options but can’t find list of them anywhere. Any recommendations please?

The Ruth Rogers (River Cafe) podcasts are soothing, she just talks to celebs about what food memories and recipes they like. No one gets shouty, no air horns.

Any audiobook where I know the story and the reader has a calm voice. Set my timer for 10 minutes and I’m almost always asleep before the reading stops.

I listen to old audiobooks, I need to have listened before so I know what happens and have them on a timer so I can easily find where I left off. It also needs to be a voice I like. I’m basically giving myself a bedtime story 😳

Exactly this. Or series of BBC Radio comedies that I am very familiar with.

Speaking things on BBC sounds - so mainly radio 4 'live' programmes (Westminster hour/book at bedtime, sends me to sleep) plus Word of Mouth/Poetry Please/In Our Time etc. Cannot do music or comedy at bedtime, too engaging. Except the Skewer on R4 which is the best. There are plenty of audiobooks on there too.

I run audio books all night - I wake up if it finishes so I only listen to books longer than I am likely to be asleep, although it's better than an alarm clock to wake up as a book ends.

I find the best books are children's books or books I already know well. Harry Potter is great, as read by Stephen Fry, because something about his voice sends me right off to sleep. Also the Discworld books read by Colin Morgan and the Miss Read books are very gentle.

I have an Audible subscription because I like to listen to the same books over and over again.

Exactly the same. Cabin pressure is often my go to or the Robyn Ellacot books.

I listen to audio books on the Libby app via my local library, it's free and there's plenty of books to listen too.

Me too! It can't be a new audio book as then my brain wants to know what's happening.

Alexander McCall's 1st Ladies Detective Agency books. Also the 44 Scoland ones by the same author.

I am asleep with 10 mins. Lovely gentle stories. Like a pp I have to read/listen during the day as I actually enjoy the books but have never got past the first chapter at night

I like thunderstorms, rain noise, waves and ocean sounds, brown noise. All Spotify play lists.

I listen to crap books where I don't care about the story. I usually fall asleep within minutes. For about a month I was listening to a Joanna Trollope where I had no clue what was happening but I really liked the narrators voice.

minimuffin · Yesterday 21:44

Oooh, what are sleep headphones? I listen to audiobooks or podcasts at night with my AirPods in, but don’t like sleeping with them in as I’m sure it can’t be good for your ears, so I’m interested in an alternative

I listen to my current audiobook and set a 10 min sleep timer as I’m usually out like a light. Fave soothing podcasts at the moment are The Clearing by Katherine May of Wintering fame, and Dig It with Zoe Ball & Jo Whiley

I’ve got the Calm app and love their sleep stories. Stephen Lyons is my fave reading the various stories of ‘The Minor Mysteries’. Roughly 35-40 mins long and I think I’ve only ever heard one of them to the end.

Matthew McConaughey does one and he’s got such a lovely voice!

The app has ASMR and loads of other stuff too, though at the minute (and having listened to a fair few things), I find the Sleep Stories ideal to nod off to. Plus, if I inevitably wake up in the early hours for the loo, I’ll always play another sleep story which gets me back off to the land of nod.🙂‍↕️

Harry potter books!

Get Sleepy podcasts.

FlatErica · Yesterday 22:05

The unabridged audiobook of Lord of the Rings on repeat. I’m usually asleep before Tolkien has finished explaining what a hobbit is.

Pinkdaisychains · Yesterday 22:06

Boring audiobooks. If I find it too interesting I don’t go to sleep. I’m listening to one about fishing at the moment. I have no interest in fishing. It sends me to sleep in minutes. I use the timer. Some books I have to go back and restart from the last point I remember but this one is not one where I care about missing any. I have an Audible subscription (which I use for books I really want to listen to)?but they also have a lot of free books - some are good, lots are very dull. perfect for inducing sleep.

If I need distraction from racing brain:

BBC Sounds:

Mark Steel's in Town
Paul Sinha pub quiz
Round Britain Quiz
Brain of Britain
Counterpoint
No Such Thing as a Fish
Shedunnit
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue

If I don't need distraction this is the best:

The Sleeping Forecast - Forty winks on the high seas - BBC Sounds

Drift off to the sound of this calming, classical and ambient mix.

BBC sounds The Sleeping forecast ( sounds or calm music with a man with a lovely deep voice reading the shipping forecast!)
Apple Music calm/ sleep albums and my own classical music playlists.

Stillwearingskinnies · Yesterday 22:09

I subscribe to the Slumber app and it's excellent. Individual stories, whole audiobooks, music, meditations, ASMR, all sorts. There's usually a new one every day.

I have Soundcore A20s.

I have them programmed to stop whatever podcast I'm playing 30 minutes after they've detected that I've fallen asleep, and switch to white noise.
