Sandwich making buttering the bread

I follow Frankie Parker on Instagram - she basically makes massive sandwiches for her boyfriends lunch.

But three things

  1. She doesn't use a bread knife to cut the bread she uses a massive carving knife.
  2. She uses said carving knife to spread the butter.

Think these two things are basically her 'hook' so whilst I wouldn't do it like that I can shrug and think fine.

The third thing I cannot fathom.

She will take two slices of bread and rather than opening them out like a book and putting the spread on the two faces she will have the two slices stacked as the come out of the packet of bread/as cut, butter the top slice, move that out of the way and then butter the next slice. So the two buttered sides no longer fit together seemlessly. If it was standard square loaf type bread I could sort of understand but very often it's an artisan knobbly bread and for me it just doesn't work. And can't imagine it working for anyone.

I've not messaged her and told her she's doing it wrong (because I'm not a twat) , but it does give me stress!

How do others butter their bread?

Is this a fetish thing? Making sandwiches on the internet?

You’ve got too much time on your hands love. Stop watching her if it stresses you out

I don’t put butter on sandwiches at all. I come from a poor household and never actually had butter until I was well into my 20s. Certainly didn’t realise that people put butter on sandwiches so it’s not something I’ve ever got into. Having said that, if I make toast, I do make sure that I butter the ‘larger’ side of the bread, so Frankie Parker definitely sounds like she’s doing it all wrong. (Why can’t her boyfriend make his own sandwiches?!)

Had to go look her up. Her sandwiches look amazing. I’d happily eat them.

Don’t understand using the big sharp knife to butter the bread but maybe she just can’t be bothered to dirty an extra knife. Same for a bread knife.

Slices of bread must match up. Open it up like a book to butter it.

I’m intrigued by cutting the wrapped sandwich in half. Does that mean that the boyfriend takes a big sharp knife with him to cut the sandwich when he’s ready to eat, or does she cut it in half for him and put it in something to keep the two halves together so the fillings don’t fall out? I’ve never even considered cutting through a wrapped sandwich. I’m used to cutting it then wrapping it.

I'm not judging as I watch videos of a bloke who cleans pools for a living but rage bait videos get more engagement then any other just like some of the threads on here.

I get a weird pleasure from the Instagram of a man who cleans dirty road signs, come to think of it. @ liamthesignguy. He just cleans dirty road signs, no audio apart from the sound of his brush and traffic. Weirdly mesmerising.

You are going to hate ne.
Make 3 sandwiches most mornings.
Take 6 slices of bread out of the presliced packet.

Stack in piles of 2. Butter top slice of each pile. Add fillings ontop of butter. Slide bottom slice out, and put on top - no butter.

Buttered using a table knife, BTW

Then use a vegetable knife to cut one sandwich into triangles for DS2, and the other into rectangles for me and DS1.

I think that's sort of almost passable esp if the bread is of a uniform size. But Frankies bread is definitely more uniquely shaped.

If I was making a batch I'd take out the required slices of bread and have then stack up in front of me. Turn over first slice and put it to my right hand side. Butter it. Then I'd turn to the original heap and butter that one and place it butter sides together with the first slice. Then turn over the next slice and place that onto the new heap, butter that side etc etc.

I think Mrs Hinch is another one who butters their bread 'oddly' to my mind. It might be a southern thing?

@FeralWoman
I think there are a lot of questions ref boyfriends eating habits and that we need to hear from him directly, in a safe space, so he can answer truthfully without fear of Frankies potential wrath.

@ JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn

We only had butter at my grannies who was well posh (no crusts on sandwiches, butter up to the edges). We had cheapo Asda marg at home. Which I hated. So I didn't have 'spread' on my sandwiches until I was in charge of my own budget. I only like a very thin smear.

Dunno why her boyfriend can't make his own sandwiches - perhaps they split tasks? So he cooks tea or cleans the loo. Presumably she earns pots of money from her page as well. So even if boyfriend is imaginary it perhaps pays to pretend there's one.

I don't put butter on my sandwiches

snowibunni · 28/04/2026 13:43

Oh my gosh, if my OH said my sandwiches required improvement then he'd be making his own. In fact he does and always has made his own.

Mind you I do like a pretty sandwich and if I'm making my own I will do the whole ruffled ham thing.

I can guess why the boyfriend doesn’t make his own sandwiches: because hers are epic!

My DH can make a way better sandwich than me. I can make an ordinary one but when I want a really good one I ask him to make one for me. Usually he says yes and makes one for himself too.
