Would you sit on the driveway to avoid noisy neighbours?

Obviously I’d use a chair! Driveway is block paved, the width of the front of the house, would fit two cars, with fences either side and open to the front. Road has a mini rush hour for ten minutes in the morning, then perhaps one car every ten mins or less.

Neighbour has a hot tub, a barking dog, endlessly FaceTimes loudly in the garden, plays constant music and the kid screams like it’s being murdered from 6am onwards.

Would I look like a complete weirdo for taking a chair and sitting by my car? I just want to sit in the sun and read but the noise kills me every summer (can also hear it all inside).

Could you sit it sideways to the house, so that it has its back to the boundary with next door's front garden?

I’ve just taken one of the garden chairs around for now. I’ve spent all afternoon in the glorious sunshine, IN COMPLETE SILENCE. I can just hear birds and summer. Bliss.

Fabulous! It’s been another glorious sunny day.

Open all your back windows, align all your Alexas along the window sills and say, ‘Alexa, play My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion everywhere for 2 hours’. Go out the front with a nice book and an Aperol Spritz.

My pils used to sit in their car to get away from their noisy children. With a flask!

My sister lives in a back to back house in Leeds and only has a front garden. She has a bistro set, a sun lounger and a barbecue. It’s not common, it’s normal.

OP - I have a bench in my front garden and I am certainly not 'common'! I like to sit out there on a sunny morning with my dog - she likes to see all the doggies walking by with their owners - and it's nice to have a quick chat with some of the neighbours. Get a nice little table too so you can put your coffee/wine/beer on it!

Went out today for 8 hours, should have done this 😂😂😂. They were in the hot tub screeching by 7am and still out there now so I’m glad I was in a beer garden for the afternoon!

Our near neighbours used to. He has now gone into a care home, but when we moved in we got to know the neighbours via these neighbours as everyone would stop and chat to them. They were kind of the hub of the street.

I cleared an area of flowerbed in front of my house for a 2 seater bench. The sun lands there after work, while my garden is in shade. And the front is much quieter than the back. My neighbour isn’t as obnoxious as yours, but there’s a lot of significant DIY, jet washing, karaoke… there used to be a spa, but that’s disappeared (not my fault!). They were quieter in the spa than the rest of the time. Late night and early morning it would start to hum/buzz and at least he wouldn’t be running an angle grinder while he was in it.
