Parking issue with commercial van - feeling anxious

Bitofapickle22 · 22/04/2026 15:12

So I live in a quiet residential street. We all have driveways so no issues parking. About a week ago a large commercial lorry started parking in the street. It is huge. One of my neighbours saw the driver park it and then walk off to a street a few minutes away. I’m assuming he can’t or doesn’t want to park in his street so parks it in mine.

When it parks opposite my driveway it makes it harder to reverse in and yes to be honest staring out my lounge window at a huge van is an eyesore and I hate it. I shut the blinds but it’s bloody annoying.

Yesterday we had to help my neighbour out his drive as he couldn’t see round it.

I rang the company and politely asked if the driver could park more considerately. The bloke on the phone said the driver had moved to the area and would now be parking in my street and there’s nothing I could do about it. I explained about blocking driveways making it difficult to get in and out. He didn’t care. Said it’s taxed and insured and we’d have to get used to it. Said he’s known the driver 30 years and he is a “family man”.

Again today I hear it parking up opposite, the loud reversing noise. My DD who is 13 and off school sick looked out the window and the driver saw, came over to our house and started waving up at her. I am now thinking he’s obviously been told that I’ve complained and this is the start of some sort of personal vendetta.

I am a single parent and am now worrying what this bloke is going to do? I shouldn’t have rung. I’m so anxious about this. I just want a quiet life and now not only do I have to deal with this lorry 7 days a week and trying to get round it but the driver and the company know where I live.

Trying not to catastrophise but I have so much other stressful stuff going on that it feels like I’m spiralling.

Sigh.

You suggested that she post the registration number. Which is unique to the van in question, where she’s already nervous of the driver and company owner.

But anyway - if you think posting a picture of your street is fine and dandy and totes anonymous, especially as a “patchwork identification” with other posts about number of children, job, maybe uni that you went to or whatever, go ahead and post your own road.

Yes I suggested she put the reg up here, for us to work out the size of the van, as someone up thread said if it was over a certain size then there’s restrictions on where it can park. Thereby, gaining information to help OP … you know, the very person you’re saying I’m calling a troll?? Funny, why would I help a troll? The reg by the way, is visible to everyone who sees this van, or any vehicle, anywhere. It’s not private, secret information.

”The reg by the way, is visible to everyone who sees this van, or any vehicle, anywhere. It’s not private, secret information.”

Dear god! The village sign for where I live is not private, secret information and it’s visible to anyone driving through, but I’m still not going to post it on a forum linking myself to a location

I thought you were being disingenuous but perhaps it’s something else.

This wording - the “it’s all very odd”, the 🤔 face and the disingenuous “she can even just put (specific identifying information) on here” as if that’s a totally reasonable request.

If you didn’t mean to imply anything, that’s good.

Ah if only I knew “it’s all very odd” is code for I think this poster is a troll, I wouldn’t have said it 🙄
It’s odd OP is having such a problem, and many people are asking how big the van actually is so that they can help, but she is not answering. A reg number is easy to see and get information from, I find it odd that OP wasn’t looking up that basic info which could help her. That is what I found odd.

Since then however, OP has said it is under 7.5t which I believe means it doesn’t come under the same restrictions as over 7.5t, which is a shame for the OP and her predicament.

Where exactly have I asked anyone to put up information that shares their location?

If she posts the registration, that may come up in a Google search if the business owner or driver is doing one, linking her to the thread. Given she’s already scared of them, bad move.

If another MNer lives nearby, they may recognise the reg no (or the street, if a photo is posted; this is why people do parking diagrams rather than posting pictures of their streets)

As for your other post, clearly the point was the three things together.

I will leave it there, have a good evening

Pinch the space. Hopefully all the neighbours can do the same, play musical cars here.

I had a huge van parked outside mine every weekend. It's no parking until 11pm but he'd park there all weekend because he'd go to the pub on a Friday that's nearby. Took a photo of it half parked on the pavement, left a google review on the company website, explaining that while they may be a good window fitter, their attitude to obeying the rules and respecting people's space were zero. Had I been a wheelchair user, I'd have had trouble getting out my house. The owner of the company got in touch, asked me to take the review down, I didn't. But the van never returned.

OnTheBoardwalk · 24/04/2026 19:10

I feel your pain @Bitofapickle22 although mine is a new neighbour

i live on a cul-de-sac. New neighbours moved into house with one parking space. They’ve got 2 cars and a huge work van that’s parked 3pm to 8am every weekday and doesn’t move over weekend. So annoying

like you they are overhanging peoples drives (but not blocking them completely) and have blocked the turning area at the bottom of the road

yes they can park there but they don’t give a 2nd thought to the impact they have on everyone else

loosethepounds · 24/04/2026 19:31

Some people don't care about others in life. Selfish man.
We are in a small close of bungalows. Drive will fit 2 cars. We are the youngest in our 60's.
Then John and Joan moved in with 2 cars and a caravan. Both sons marriages broke down so they brought 2 cars.
Both sons also have a works van. Parking for anyones visitors is now not always possible.

I mean ok, bit far fetched, but yes .., it would lead them to an anonymous forum. 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I too will leave it with you now, I don’t wish to engage any further with you either.

To be fair I posted under a different user name some photos of a road near me and 2 people, on the not very popular thread, recognised the road

You’re being curiously intense about this. I don’t think I’d feel comfortable sharing with you either.

I agree - those repeated posts are becoming quite weird.

JohnofWessex · 25/04/2026 14:08

My personal view is that 'light commercials' and all vehicles over a certain size should NOT be allowed to park overnight on the road unless either they have a permit or the driver is working on an adjoining property

Veraverrto · 25/04/2026 14:27

Just keep parking in the space. Is there enough space for you to park so that either side he would be completely blocking a driveway?

Intense 😵‍💫😵‍💫😂😂 … responding to someone accusing me of something I’m not doing 🤔 okaaay
Sharing a registration number with someone is neither here nor there 🤷‍♀️

JohnofWessex · 24/04/2026 17:52

If its a 7.5 ton vehicle leaving it on the road is unlawful

Get The Police involved

I would also complain to planning as he's running a business from home and making a nuisance of himself

7.5 tonne trucks can be legally parked on the road as long as they are taxed and MOT'd and are owned by arseholes (the last bit isn't a legal requirement)

She’s not giving you the reg number.

todayImstruggling · 25/04/2026 23:22

get a few of your neighbours to post on the local Facebook page with concerns about someone attempting to break into vehicles parked on your street and a couple of others nearby. Ideally accompanied with a very vague description of two people. See how long they leave the van parked there for!

Whattodo1610 · 26/04/2026 15:14

ToastSoldiers · 25/04/2026 23:02

She’s not giving you the reg number.

It’s not needed now. It was simply to determine just how big the van was for it contravened parking laws due to its size, as a pp had said. OP eventually confirmed it was less than 7.5t which means it’s not illegally parked, so no help can be sought that way.

I’ve honestly no idea why you have such a bee in your bonnet about me. I’m done engaging with you now. I’ve made my point very clearly in how I (like others) was trying to help OP.

Bitofapickle22 · 28/04/2026 14:00

So after having this van dumped opposite all weekend I decided to park on the road as did my neighbour which meant there would have been no room for his van. However my neighbour had to nip out briefly so of course literally as she drove off the van appeared and parked up partially obscuring another neighbours driveway.

Whats worrying me is the driver started beeping his horn as he parked as if to let us know he’s here, like a warning? This bloke is a complete loser. Why doesn’t he get the hint and sod off to his own home with his huge van.

OP posts:
BridgetJonesV2 · 28/04/2026 14:06

Does the company have a social media presence? I'd start taking photos of it when it is blocking other drives to build a catalogue.

WallaceinAnderland · 28/04/2026 14:08

Just ignore it. It's not actually doing any harm to you so why spend so much time stressing over it.

Greenwriter76 · 28/04/2026 14:18

You and neighbours park in the space. You have as much right to park there as he does... more if there is a covenant against lorries parking overnight. So also check if there are any, and if so, report him.

Don’t worry about escalation on his part - I’m sure he will just find somewhere else to park… he’ll have to!

Bitofapickle22 · 28/04/2026 14:19

wallace I was ignoring it and am working from home today, I was actually on a Teams call when I heard him with his hand on his horn announcing his presence to the street, slightly concerned he’s some sort of psychopath.

Most normal people would avoid the drama & find somewhere else to park a huge commercial vehicle when he knows it’s causing issues, not this guy he seems to want to escalate things.

OP posts:
littlemousebigcheese · 28/04/2026 14:24

The problem is that morally it’s not nice but legally there’s no law that prevents him parking there if it’s a public road. Should he park on his own road? Sure but maybe his neighbours kicked off too and he’s had to move as he can’t handle a messy neighbour dispute - the man has to work and park his van so where should it go?!
