It seems surprising that the unexplained disappearance or deaths of eleven American scientists has received little coverage in the UK news. Surely this is of worldwide interest given the current state of things.

Do you have the names of these people?

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 21/04/2026 19:01

You’d need some statistics to back that up. Otherwise we wouldn’t know if it was unusual. I mean, scientists… people who make cat food or research skin care? People in medical research? 11 scientists dying in unexplained circumstances isn’t actually very many if you count science teachers.

11 scientists in America having died in the last 2 years is not news I’m afraid

GingerBeverage · 21/04/2026 19:12

It’s not normal. But there’s an investigation now, at least.

Also missing is William Neil McCasland, a retired Air Force major general, who hasn’t been seen since he walked out of his Albuquerque, New Mexico, home on February 27, leaving behind his phone, prescription glasses and wearable devices. The FBI is now involved in the search.

A retired general vanished from his home. An unseasonably warm spring is making him harder to find | CNN

An experienced hiker and avid outdoorsman, William Neil McCasland isn’t the typical missing person, but the retired Air Force major general hasn’t been seen since he walked out of his Albuquerque home on the morning of February 27, leaving behind his p...

How many people in other professions are missing and have they controlled for risk due to age, sex, demographics, hobbies undertaken etc?

If scientists disproportionately go hiking alone in the wilderness it might just be that more of them do the dangerous thing so more go missing.

Is 11 a lot out of hundreds of millions of people?

mindutopia · 21/04/2026 19:24

I don’t think it should really, no.

Firstly, not all of them were scientists. Several were low level admin folks with no real access to anything particularly sensitive.

Several are almost certainly suicides. Unfortunately, people from all walks of life experience mental health crises and self harm. It doesn’t make you immune because you have a good career and security clearance.

McCasland was believed to be experiencing cognitive decline of some degree and left taking a firearm with him.

Melissa Cascias said she was working from home and was reportedly last seen by someone who knew her stumbling while walking along the road looking impaired.

I do think it points to how difficult it can be to access mental health care in the US, even when you should have the best health insurance there is working for the US government. I don’t at all think these are people abducted by aliens or disappeared by a foreign state.

You’re missing the fact that they are all connected to UAP technologies.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 21/04/2026 19:33

The ones who have disappeared obviously discovered time-travel.

Yes I read that too

GeneralPeter · 21/04/2026 19:39

There are 1.8m scientists in the US. Even NASA scientists is 12,000 ish (let’s take that as a proxy) and 11 missing over three years would be one-sixth of the general US disappearance rate. Adjust for demographic profile and it’s still not remarkable.

So yes, it could be nefarious. But it’s much more likely to be our human tendency to make meaning from randomness.

Shallotsaresmallonions · 21/04/2026 19:45

How many scientists does America have left then? 2 or 3?

Sunshineandoranges · 21/04/2026 20:56

Apart from the occasional childish sarcasm, there are some very good points made, There was an implication it was linked to nuclear science in the various online articles.

Nothing would surprise me anymore. There is a huge amount that owes un/under reported in the media regarding the US and Israel.

There are 350 million people in the US! No, 11 missing ones is not at all strange.

Except they are all linked to a specific type of research! God there’s some dim people on here. This has been in the news but not anything huge.

PermanentTemporary · 22/04/2026 06:58

11 people over 4 years from such a huge group - ‘people employed in an organisation with a connection to science’ means absolutely nothing statistically.

I read about this earlier today in an article called ‘The Dumbest Conspiracy Theory’ which I think nails it.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/04/2026 07:46

Have been wondering if anyone would start a thread about this, and considered doing it myself but knew it would be scorned by the majority.

I'm certainly curious. There are commonalities between the dead and missing beyond "science".

Given everything that is going on in the world, nothing would surprise me these days.

Just woken up to see a well known Ufologist called David Wilcock has allegedly taken his own life as well.

Now, whether it is all mental instability, or "something else" it begs the question why a bunch of people, with documented high intelligence and successful in related fields, should all start "losing the plot" in a relatively short space of time.

US agencies are "looking into it" now, whether for damage limitation or because of genuine national security concerns remains to be seen, and frankly, we will likely never know.

However, as the daughter of a nuclear test veteran, the lengths that state agencies will go to in order to avoid accountability and discredit the injured are familiar to me.

It's definitely a situation I'll be keeping at least half an eye on.

If you dedicate you life to studying UFOs, you cannot be mentally stable tbh.

It's also reasonable to assume that extreme scientific fields tend to attract people who are singularly obsessed with one thing, which overlaps heavily with neurodivergence. These also need to be very smart, possibly with IQs in the top 5% of the entire population. Both neurodivergence and high intelligence have been scientifically linked to much higher rates of depression, anxiety disorders and MH crises.

It's not a huge surprise if you study suicide rates in other jobs that require a lot of intense concentration and high precision under lots of pressure. Celebrities, surgeons, pilots etc. Many believe that high intelligence in itself is a form of neurodivergence which means the person has struggled their entire life with other mundane issues that may not affect most (relationships, life admin, self care etc).

MulderandBambi · 22/04/2026 07:59

Reminds me of the Marconi scientist deaths back in the 80s. It sounds dodgy and it’s easy to make a conspiracy out of it but it’s probably just coincidence.
