Do you think England have a strong chance of winning the World Cup?

I was born in England, so I’m English. I have to support regardless of the heartbreaks I go through šŸ˜‚.

Personally I think they are strong favourites because they got a world class manager & a talented roster of a squad!

The problem is Brazil, Argentina, France & Spain are also good footballing nations.

Let me know your thoughts ? Can they end their 60 year trophy drought?

Nope. When you see the likes of France and Spain, they are levels above the England team. They will get easy games at first and win and when they finally get a half decent team, they will lose. As always

MyballsareSandy2015 · 19/04/2026 08:46

No! There will be all the usual hype though.

DreamyJade · 19/04/2026 08:47

Nah, they’ll get knocked out in either the semis or the final, probably on penalties.

I cant stand it to be honest. I am at a loss as to why the supporters and most importantly the media just don’t go with an open mind, enjoy it and come home. The hype from the media is going to get worse and worse the closer the WC gets. No other team will get so much as a 5 second mention. I can’t wait for it to be over!

AllJoyAndNoFun · 19/04/2026 08:50

It will go as it always does

  • we lose what should have been a winnable match in the group stages. Everyone says we are terrible and a national embarrassment.
  • we manage to get through the pool with some scrappy wins
  • everyone gets excited and says we are gonna win
  • we get knocked out in quarters or semis- everyone gets depressed again
burnoutbabe · 19/04/2026 08:51

The men? Nope.

TikTokker · 19/04/2026 08:53

Of course not.

the80sweregreat · 19/04/2026 08:53

No , they won’t win.
They may make it out the group stages, but it’ll follow the same route as all the other tournaments.

EweCee · 19/04/2026 08:54

What sport? Men or women? If its football, I would say the men haven't been a 'good footballing nation' for decades. The women, yes, they could potentially win.

RS1987 · 19/04/2026 08:57

I think the Men’s team did really well under Gareth Southgate and narrowly missed the trophy: they could take it this time. If not at least we have the Lionesses!

SellFridges · 19/04/2026 08:58

Given the men’s recent form in qualifying, and over the last four or so major tournaments, I would say we should reach the semi’s at least. Whether we do or not will depend, but that’s tournament football for you.

If the women’s World Cup were played this summer I do believe England would win it. They are incredibly experienced winners and better than their rivals right now. I am worried that by next summer we may lose a couple more of the older team members to injury (Bronze, Greenwood) and that may be an issue.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 19/04/2026 08:58

No. Very strong competition from every corner of the globe. Unlike womens football that’s not fully developed Worldwide. No, they won’t win because too many players will be tired or not fully fit. Prem league is too big and with other competitions, there’s too many games They struggle to stay fit and on top of their game.

Then there’s the heat! Playing in the summer in ludicrously hot places doesn’t suit us. The competition is too long and too big. It won’t be great but it’s not the fault of the players or manager. English football isn’t set up to win a World Cup.

BackToRealitySigh · 19/04/2026 08:58

Assume mens world cup this summer.
Very outside chance if the injured/out of form are available and turn up AND Harry Kane stays fit.
Otherwise - no chance. QF loss on pens.

But i'm English so will gradually believe all the hype in the build up and be disappointed when it comes to an end of course 🤣 - and you never know....

PassTheCranberrySauce · 19/04/2026 08:59

No. We are relying on a single (prolific) goal scorer to pull us through group and knockout stages.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 19/04/2026 09:01

Yes. But I’ve been saying this every 4 years since Bryan Robson was captain.

They got to the semi finals in 2024? Quarter finals last World Cup 2022? They have yet to loose a qualifying match. They haven’t performed as well as the women’s team but neither are they scraping out of the group stages - they’re contenders.

They played very easy teams to get there and lost when they finally played a decent team. They have no chance

RS1987 · 19/04/2026 09:03

Bookies odds are 6 to 1. Last winners Argentina are 8:1. Yes OP they could win and I for one am looking forward to watching!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 19/04/2026 09:04

They have a good chance, but the men's team also had a good chance in the previous two tournaments and still haven't won. It's ultimately knockout competition football and anything can happen.

Agree with this.

Lelot · 19/04/2026 09:16

England's gonna throw it away.

burnoutbabe · 19/04/2026 08:51

The men? Nope.

My thoughts exactly! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜© OP - do you mean the men or women’s team?

Savvysix1984 · 19/04/2026 09:19

The men’s team had a very very easy group to qualify. On paper they have a good chance but they never perform to the hype. I think they’ll make it to the quarter finals though.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 19/04/2026 09:23

I just don't have much confidence in the men's England football team. I think they'll maybe get to the quarter or semi finals but will be surprised if they win the whole thing.
The women on the other hand... I think they have more trophies in them under Sarina.

WaneyEdge · 19/04/2026 09:25

No. The only reason the Premier League teams are so good is that they have lots of people from abroad playing.
