First one that comes to mind for me is Nightlife by Green Day. 😵‍💫

Where the hell is my husband?
Don't know who sings it as I always turn it off.
Shrieky,shouty shit.

Raye. I like her, but that song is a mess.

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2026 21:33

B 52s / love shack
More like love shit and it is immediately turned off.
Hate it

S0j0urn4r · 17/04/2026 21:46

Journey: Don't Stop Believin'.

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2026 21:58

That Minnie Ripperton song with the long note and twittering birds is just teeth clenchingly awful.
I agree bealola! Hate it.

The original Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is fantastic, the version by ..... a woman who won Xfactor (cant remember, never watched it!) was absolutely AWFUL.

It took a subtle meaningful song and turned it into a power ballad that even Mariah Carey would say was over doing it.

I hate both!

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2026 22:09

I like the Leonard Cohen original Hallelujah, but I agree the covers lose something. They also tend to cut it about.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 17/04/2026 22:16

It's Got To Beeeeeeeeeeeeeee Perfect by Fairground Attraction. Makes me think of insomnia, for some reason. Awful.

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2026 22:17

Opps upside your head and it’s silly dance.
Hey ya, outcast

Swiftmovingclouds · 18/04/2026 00:12

If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?

Nope. Fuck off with that song.

Nope. Fuck off with that song.

So the double meaning has escaped you then?

I love the Jeff Buckley version.

Kimura · 18/04/2026 01:12

Anything by U2, with exceptions for Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me and Discotheque

Stand by your man. Even when they're a lying, cheating, narcissistic scumbag. It's not their fault after all. They're just a man.

Ugh, Stand By Your Man by Tammy Wynette has to be one of the most depressing songs ever. Dreadful! 😣

Alexandra Burke ruined Hallelujah.

Me too! Those are the exact two songs that they get a pass from me on because they're brilliant. I hate nearly everything else they've done.

Wonderwall. So dreary.

I despise Wonderwall by Oasis but will happily listen to the Mike Flowers version.

For some reason Oasis give me the rage! If I see either of the Gallaghers, I have quite a visceral reaction. They always look like they stink, and there is something about them that really creeps me out.

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/04/2026 00:39

Nope, it hasn't. Creepy guys with taches who say they don't want to waste time asking a girl lots of 'crazy questions'. Not redeemed by clever cleverness. And I hate twangy country guitars.

Better not get started on the Wurzels' 'If You've Got Nothing On Tonight', then...

The Wurzels an abomination that should never have existed along with baron knights.

the80sweregreat · 18/04/2026 10:15

The Barron knights ! Lol
Novelty songs , they don’t tend to make them anymore do they.

TheDellsYoursongNsoul · 18/04/2026 10:25

Thank god!!

ginasevern · 18/04/2026 10:43

Don't Go Changing by Billy Joel. I neither love nor hate most of his stuff but that song makes me so angry.

brunetteorblonde · 18/04/2026 10:52

That sunscreen song, can not stand it and dislike it more every time I hear it, have taken to switching the radio off if it comes on.

The problem is that, like the Dr Hook song - When You're In Love With A Bsautiful Woman - the innuendo kind of works backwards. The rude understanding is the one that instantly hits you in the face, and only afterwards does it occur to you that there could be a clean, innocent understanding as well.

It's a bit like Mrs Slocombe's pussy from Are You Being Served. Even when it was originally written, it was blatantly obvious what the writers were getting at (hence the wild laughter from the audience); but nowadays, everybody knows exactly what the word is used to mean, with only the faintest historical deniability clause that it used to only ever mean a cat and nothing more.

Jim Steinman, on the other hand, was generally much better at using innuendo more subtly the correct way around - so that you'd instantly hear the clean understanding and only afterwards would twig that it could mean something ruder.
