Do spontaneous surges of happiness become less common in your late 40s?

If you are say late 40's and older, how often do you get a surge of just great mood / mild euphoria for literally no reason? I feel that when I was younger like in my teens and 20's I would just get this surge of happiness every so often for no real reason just a sort of Friday / Weekend buzz or a song on the radio that just got me buzzing. I suppose you could also call it a sort of feeling of wellbeing and happiness.

I've just realised that doesn't really happen anymore and probably hasn't for a while.

Things are fine and I am happy but maybe just jaded or perhaps its my hormones dose diving.

Anyone else noticed this decline in spontaneous good mood or wellbeing at this age?

I've never had these until I was in my 40s. It was an amazing surprise, so I don't think it's an age thing. Perhaps you're just unhappy.

I have more surges of happiness in my 50s than I’ve had in my life.

Same!!!!! Since I divorced and I have constant surges of happiness, trying new things, going new places meeting new peope.

No, but then I gave up alcohol last year and since giving up alcohol I hadn't consciously realised how much more of these moments I get. The times you're dancing round the kitchen because a good song has come on or your driving along and the sun is just hitting the trees in a beautiful way? Or your running and the weather is perfect for it? Yeah that all happens more often now I'm sober.

I think in your 40s you’re mostly thinking about other people’s needs and what needs doing next. Or at least you are if you’re a parent. Doesn’t leave much headspace for spontaneous joy, even if a good mood strikes it will immediately be followed by damn I forgot to move that dental appointment.
