Our bluebells aren't in bloom yet - everything is later here up north. We replaced (untidy) Spanish bluebells with dainty English ones but are on a losing battle because the overgrown garden next door is full of Spanish ones.

Oh bloody hell. I haven’t been concerned for a while but this is bad. It doesn’t give them enough for a majority but even so…
only hope is that Reform types don’t actually vote https://www.threads.com/@nicfromwales/post/DXZ1JDpjKyd?xmt=AQF0QIM2gSLZBuO4X-oiXhJdLPXPF9-HQO-ROhO_tDthbfqZQMs-EaYuZYXiZSdOQ3r_VpE

It is pretty scary, but as you say no chance of a majority even with the Tories on board. Very concerning. I just said to my sister, why the fuck would anyone in Wales want to vote for them? Farage doesn't give a flying fuck about Wales.

Still. The polls could be very wrong. Remember Caerfili!

A coalition of the left/centre might just work for Wales.

I hope that’s the case. Farage wants the Welsh anthem sung in English. WTF is wrong with people?

It’s essentially what we’ve had for years but with a more nationalist lead. I agree it’s the best option currently.

That is brilliant @Evenstar . I hope you are ok.

I want to make a prediction. The trial of the men who committed arson on Starmers home starts on Monday. I await massive frothing from the MN conspiracy theorists and Starmer-haters. It has already started on X and will make its way here.

It’s already begun. I foresee threads like colanders with deletions of libellous posts.

TemperanceWest · 22/04/2026 09:26

It is strange. I hated Johnson, didn't like the rest of the Tory PMs much, but the visceral level of hatred for Starmer from some on MN is something else. It is really poisonous, obsessive and often completely illogical.

Even as conspiracy theories go it's a particularly daft one too

Have also seen it already on MN from a couple of the 'usual suspects'

It comes from a deep rooted belief that only the right may govern.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2026 09:38

Those who hate Starmer were the ones loving Johnson.

But I agree that the hate shown for Starmer is on a different level.

There were a lot of posts on my SM timeline protesting the role the media played in this (from journalists mostly) but it certainly plays a role. Yesterday was a lot of getting popcorn out sentiment.

And I have never understood being a fan of a politician

A lost seems to go back to Brexit 🤔

The hatred from many of the far right is something else. I’ve been told on a counter protest ‘Hope your kids get raped’ - general very abusive terms thrown with graphic sexual content, bottles and ‘water’ thrown at us - a female steward got licked and kissed by a female then stones thrown in her face.

This is all just what I’ve seen and I’m told ‘it’s just a few, not all are like that’ but the media and social media vitriol to public ‘not far right’ folk is equally abhorrent.

I despise Tiny Tom and his ardent, angry followers - I have personal stuff that makes me so angry at Boris et al - but I’ve never even contemplated any of the above even in my (usually vivid) imagination!

It absolutely baffles me the widespread hateful stuff and violence - I mean I do think you’ve lost the argument when you get to this point so there is that perhaps.

And possibly spectral ?

MN is it's own little universe. It is most certainly not a microcosm of anything really significant. Try and fit it into your real world view - especially if you know a lot of people - and that is the very first thing you realise. And possibly the investors. Hence the rather quixotic moderation.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2026 09:57

I don't think I know anyone who supports Reform but maybe they are staying quiet about it.

Most people are a meh about Starmer.

OP posts:
TemperanceWest · 22/04/2026 09:58

My feeling is a lot of the online hate really got underway when the Southport murders and riots happened. The right and far right got their online hate mobs into gear from that point on. It is very depressing such a tragedy was weaponised in that way.

You are right about MN nor being a microcosm, Jane. At least I hope so.

Anyway it is a lovely 🌞 day out there. I am going out to touch some grass as they say!

BIWI · 22/04/2026 10:21

I think it goes back to Brexit. That fractured everything and made far right views (especially racism) suddenly seem more allowable. And it's only got worse since then.

It's not just the politics.

Single example - zero threads about Taskmaster S21 in "Telly Addicts".

Nada. Not one.

And yet it's one of the more popular shows on TV. Clearly not with MN posters.

There are a few other oddities that pop up from time to time. Enough to remind and confirm what an ordered subset might look like.

There are also some MN shibboleths that do not map onto my lived and shared experiences.

At the risk of overthinking it 😀I think it's more accurate to say that Brexit allowed people with challenged analytical capabilities to suddenly enter a very nuanced and complex discussion with a very binary approach, and a ready supply of slogans to use instead of debate.

And that way of "doing politics" has pervaded the rest of our culture.

I write as if this is something new. Of course non thickos will recognise the faint shadow of religious "debate" that marked the middle ages, where the nuanced and complex discussion around finer points of theology could be distilled into "burn Catholics". (Or "burn Protestants" if you wanted balance).

Who knows ? Out of strength may yet come sweetness.

cardibach · 22/04/2026 11:06

I agree it’s a bit odd on here when compared with my actual experience of the world (and not just my little bubble of like minded friends).
I have been for a walk in the sunshine too @TemperanceWest . With a little staffie so adorable that I have to pay voluntary extra tax. This is Miss Margarita.

I’m just about to take mine out on this beautiful sunny day. I’ve had enough of the Starmer haters for now.

cardibach · 22/04/2026 11:36

Bloody hell that’s bad @placemats
Tellingly all parties have a nursery place policy except Reform…I’m guessing that means the end of free places full stop. Then they’ll demonise mothers (especially single ones) for needing benefits because they can’t work…
