Help! I stink!

NCd for this (hence the very appropriate name).

I have come to Singapore for work for a month. And my god is it hot and humid. They said it would be but this is insane. My glasses steam up when I go outside.

Anyway, I am getting so sweaty. I am showering twice a day and using my UK Dove deodorant but I still reckon I stink at the end of the day. I'm really conscious about it at work and wonder what I can do. Is there a particularly hard working deodorant that anyone can recommend? I am also just so sticky all the time. Any tips?
My hotel is so lovely and cold. As are a lot of places here where the Aircon works so beautifully. But out on the street and where there is no Aircon I am just sweating buckets.

After showering o run hand sanitiser into my armpits to kill all bacteria as at some points in my cycle I do have sweaty armpit smell (only noticed it in the late few years so possibly a perimenopause thing). As it kills the bacteria bit helps stop the smell.

Surely anything dove is a load of rubbish. Their soap isn’t soap for a start.

Interesting you say that. Dove is actually the only deodorant I have thrown in the rubbish because it didn't work on me at all.

Japanese permision soap is brilliant for body smells. Since it’s become well known over in the UK it’s become ridiculously expensive but it should be cheaper where you are hopefully. Also I’m another one for Mitchum deodorant.

TheFatCatSatOnTheMat · 13/04/2026 12:45

• use bar soap for underarms (and do not use a clear soap like Pears, use one that is a creamy bar like Imperial leather
•use Mitchum roll on deodorant followed by Mitchum spray deodorant

If this does not work use Dricolor which stings like hell but will stop the excessive sweating.

Diclor and soap bars

Are you definitely wearing an anti perspirant deodorant? I wondered why my deodorant smelled nice but I still felt wet and sweaty. I realised it wasn't an anti perspirant. So I bought the Mitchum powder fresh stick and it's amazing!

BumblebeeSocks · 13/04/2026 15:08

Rexona/Sure antiperspirant cream... also, put it on at night before you go to bed - as with the majority of anitperspirants...

If I had your manners I'd never see anyone at all, cos nobody would like me.

😂

I've seen this recommended a few times - but wouldn't the deodorant come off in the morning when you shower and soap your armpits?

From what I understand, it blocks your sweat glands, as opposed to sitting on the surface, hence not being washed off in the morning...at night, you're moving around less/sweating less from the armpit area and so the aluminium in the antiperspirant has a lot more time to do it's job, thus becoming more effective.

Perspirex is the nuclear option. Stings a bit but your pits won't sweat for almost a week.

Shower at night and don’t shower in the morning. Easy.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 13/04/2026 19:52

@FeralWoman i literally couldn't go to work without a shower. 🤢 I'd feel revolting all day.

But I now understand the concept thanks to @BumblebeeSocks

Odaban spray. Once summer comes, I start using it. Do not shave right before! Make sure you are perfectly dry before spraying (use a hairdryer if needed). Spray 2-3 on each side then spread with your fingers. Wash hands and let dry. Apply regular stick deodorant after in the first couple of days. You will be dry for days and not have to worry about wet armpits or smell. Which reminds me I need to order again...

Mitchum roll on. Absolutely a stink killer.

I lived in central china for a while years ago and the humidity and sweat was intense! All the local women seemed fine though. I found talcom powder in sweaty areas in the morning and at various points during the day helped.

Singapong · 22/04/2026 07:30

Update!

I took advice from here and found some persimmon soap. Game changer. Used it the last two mornings for my shower, and last night as well. Feel really clean and fresh, and the scent is lovely. Found some Mitchums deodorant too and that's working.
And I have also found an air conditioned route to work!
Hopefully problems solved.

Washing machines in Singapore only use cold water so your clothes won’t be getting a hot wash! I lived there for a while and couldn’t believe it. A tip is to wear a vest under your clothes as the base layer absorbs sweat.

if yoy can get any glycolic acid, the type that’s used as a face exfoliant, use that under your arms as it kills the bacteria and stops you smelling as much.

I lived in ME and the advice was to wear a vest under your bra, this was amazing for preventing boob sweat stinking your bra.
