If you have a toddler how many of their easter eggs is OK to eat?

NC for this because I'm scared lol!

Ds just turned 3 has found himself the very lucky owner of no less than 6 easter eggs.

I generally try to limit the amount of sweet things he gets and he's not massively bothered either, I actually think he has more of a savory tooth. So he's eaten one Easter egg plus the sweets that came with it over a couple of days but I won't lie the others are taunting me and he's not looked twice at them. Is mum Easter egg tax a thing or am I terrible!?

I have two boys, five and two. I’ve let them have one egg each over about five days 😂 I have charitably donated the rest to myself, enjoy

LancashireButterPie · 10/04/2026 21:45

Oh go for it! You have absolutely earned them 😂.

AmberSpy · 10/04/2026 21:46

If my mum had done this to me as a child I'd have sulked for days and days! But I was a huge sugar junkie.
If you genuinely think he's not bothered and won't notice or care it's probably fine 😅

I’m probably a bit mean but I wouldn’t let my 3yo have chocolate. 4yo is only allowed at birthday parties. So, in my house, you’d get to eat them all! Being the Grinch has to have some upsides.

Firesidechatter · 10/04/2026 21:48

I’d not do that, buy your own chocolate, they weren’t given to you. Also will you regret eating them ie from a diet perspective.

Zov · 10/04/2026 21:48

I'd have 3 or 4!

tinyspiny · 10/04/2026 21:49

I wouldn’t , it’s not like they are going out of date , buy your own chocolate . It really doesn’t matter how long it takes him to get through them .

Smarvellous · 10/04/2026 21:49

Totally got your name all over them!

You could maybe let him have one more if you're feeling really guilty Grin

Sprogonthetyne · 10/04/2026 21:49

Go for it! Better to eat it now then throw away stale chocolate in a few months time. I'd avoid taking the last one

KeyLimeCake · 10/04/2026 21:49

I melt them and make rice krispie cakes. Then everyone can enjoy them for longer.
(but if he had any nice ones up for grabs, i.e. not Cadburys, and was genuinely not bothered, then I would eat them)

NotMyRealAccount · 10/04/2026 21:52

Depends. Some Easter eggs are much too good for children.

It matters a bit in that my kitchen is tiny and we have very little storage so they are actually very much in the way from a practical perspective (and I'm not just saying that!). If I put them upstairs somewhere I'm very likely to forget about them and he's not going to ask. We're also seeing extended family at the weekend and it's very likely he is going to get even more...

@KeyLimeCake I do intend to do this with some of them over the weekend but it's just us so I also don't want a huge amount of rice krispie Buns sitting because same issue.

You can’t just take his gifts! Why not ask him if he’d be happy to share them with you?

Otherwise, you risk him becoming someone who binges whatever they get really quickly before it disappears.

Maybe have a little bit together after dinner now and then - or let him have it all himself gradually. I don’t think chocolate goes off quickly- not that I ever keep it long enough to find out…

pencilcaseandcabbage · 10/04/2026 21:54

They're not your eggs! It'll take them many months to go off. Just ration them. You can make them last as long as you like. We often used to get so many they'd last until the end of the summer! But they're the kids eggs so the kids should get to eat them.

One egg for a 3 year old is plenty. Crack on with the other five. If I gave a chocolate egg to a 3 year old I’d fully expect the parents to eat it. Same applies to party bag birthday cake.

Party bag cake is a gift for the parents, no?

The thing is Easter eggs in summer is a rubbish treat. You want ice lollies in summer.

Cricketashes · 10/04/2026 21:57

I wouldn't eat any. They are his.
