Nicest day of the year and my teenager hasn’t left the house all day……

Why do they do this?! It’s been such lovely weather today and DS14 has spent it inside.

Anyone else care to join in my despair?! 😁

Just had the same chat with my neighbour over the fence, I was trying get my toddler to come in & she told me she’s spent all day trying to get her teenager to go out…

Can’t share in your despair yet, but it does seem like pretty standard teen behaviour.

Riapia · 08/04/2026 20:21

Was there anything that your teen would have enjoyed outside?
Usually takes more than good weather to tempt them away from a screen. Over exposure to sun can cause problems. Probably wise to stay inside. 😉😁😁.

Screamingabdabz · 08/04/2026 20:23

Why can’t teenagers enjoy themselves without mumsnetters wanting them to be outside walking and taking fresh air all the time?

I promise he has plenty of time to relax in the house!

Perfectly normal

ThatWaryLimePeer · 08/04/2026 21:35

Sounds normal.

LastHotel · 08/04/2026 21:36

Why does your teen need to be outside?

Silverbirchleaf · 08/04/2026 21:36

Typical teenager.

Boolabus · 08/04/2026 21:37

My mum used to follow me around with the hoover, every room I went into she came in after hoovering around my feet or giving me jobs to do I wasn't long getting "out from under her feet"

SirChenjins · 08/04/2026 21:40

It's a parent's job to be obsessed with them getting fresh air and some sun on their skin, and a teenager's job to care about neither. Circle of life and all that.

Fridgetapas · 08/04/2026 21:41

I remember as a teen hating feeling the pressure of having to ‘go out’ when the weather was nice.

GoodOnPaper · 08/04/2026 21:41

This was my 14 year old a year or two ago. At 15 he's now going out with friends and hanging out most days. So it can change.

I just don't think they are as tuned in to the weather as you get when you're older. They're in their own worlds whether that's gaming etc. or doing whatever their friends are etc.

Yellowcustard · 08/04/2026 21:43

Well I stayed inside all day as I worked from home today. I had the chance to go outside but preferred to stay cool inside instead.

Schoolchoicesucks · 08/04/2026 21:57

Are you my DH? He said the same to me when I got back from work, though he had managed to get DS outfor a short walk to lunch in a cafe together.
I got him out for an hour yesterday for a bike ride and we were out a lot last week as we went away. But left to his own devices and it's inside on screens.

TotallyKerplunked · 08/04/2026 23:21

My 14yo DS is the same and I remember my own DM nagging me to go outside around that age too. I don't nag, it never works, I just plop myself outside and he'll keep coming out to ask about food so I'm sure he got enough vitamin D today.

pinkpony88 · 08/04/2026 23:27

To be honest I seem to remember that anything my parents thought I “should” be doing instantly became most unappealing 🤣

StarCourt · 08/04/2026 23:29

DD17 absolutely hates sun and warm weather, her current excuse is she is using Tret so the sun will damage her skin.

TheGriffle · 08/04/2026 23:31

My 13 year old dd only emerged at lunch by the lure of a Morrisons meal deal! She refused to go out on her bike with her younger sister or for a walk and even refused to do a five minute car journey with me to pick her sister up from her club. She doesn’t even open her curtains!

MrsCarmelaSoprano · 08/04/2026 23:32

I had a cuppa outside in the garden but that was it. I've had a really difficult couple of weeks so enjoyed relaxing at home doing sod all.

Fedupofthisgame · 08/04/2026 23:54

I'm feeling a bit better reading this. This is my 11 year old DD. I fear she's hits the teens very early. Been on holiday for a week in the UK and it's all I can do to get her out of our holiday house. If she had her way she'd be in her room all day every day for the whole week.

Exactly that
i did tell the cat he was like a teenager and it would be lovely to go outside. He closed his eyes and curled up on the bed again

Denim4ever · 09/04/2026 00:02

Have they got end of year exams or mocks coming up? If so expect a fair amount of indoors time. DS 20 did 4 hours today, making time for some holiday activity. Spring hols have been like this since Yr10. I think that's normal

Putyourshoesonfortheloveofgod · 09/04/2026 00:46

I didn't go outside today either. I just don't like this kind of weather, it might not be a teenager thing.

HelpMeGetThrough · 09/04/2026 06:00

Youngest didn’t go out all day, mind you, he’s 19, so can do what he wants and is on a break from Uni. He was like it at times when younger. Just left him to it, didn’t hurt him.

To be fair, he was out this evening refing a football match, as got called in last minute. The lure of being paid got him there 😁

WhatNextImScared · 09/04/2026 06:07

I couldn’t get my pre teen out except for a short appt
