Stressing over speeding tickets.

Today I received a speeding fine from 16th March. I was caught doing 46 in a 40mph zone. It was a lone officer with a speed gun on a tripod. My friend said that the officer was there for all of the next week too. I do that journey everyday and a now stressing that there’s more to come! Is it unlikely that I will have gotten pinged by the hand held gun several days in a row? I need my licence!

If you need your licence, it's probably best to stop speeding.

And no it's not unlikely that you'll have been caught speeding more than once that week.

I know it’s my fault but I’m still worried!

I don't know what you want anyone here to say? 🤷‍♂️

If you were doing 46 in a 40 you may be given the option of a speed awareness course. It depends on the police force and your circumstances.

They may also give you consideration if you get two in a row and make some allowance.

Drive more slowly for a while. Good luck.

Brewtiful · 04/04/2026 20:38

We obviously cannot answer for you however, if you drive over the speed limit daily on that road then yes it's quite likely you will have been caught more than once.

partmermaidpartplant · 04/04/2026 20:39

Just use Waze ! It will tell you if you speeding

Buscobel · 04/04/2026 20:39

A friend had three tickets in one say on the same road, so it is possible to be caught more than once.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/04/2026 20:41

46 in a 40 is not a mistake. Pay more attention.

Shade17 · 04/04/2026 20:41

Impossible to say, I’ve never seen a speed trap in the same place at the same time on multiple consecutive days but it doesn’t mean they don’t do it. 46 in a 40 should qualify you for a course, hopefully you weren’t done another 4 times.

ACynicalDad · 04/04/2026 20:42

I dropped my son on zigzags outside school after secondary school viists, there was nobody about, i was stopped about 5 -10 seconds a time, i got three fines halved to £60 each, i spent a couple of weeks thinking it could have been up to 6. Took it on the chin… you do the crime you pay the fine (and get the points).

Dalmationday · 04/04/2026 20:42

If you keep your that speed limit now you have no reason to be worried. I can set a max speed on my car - are you able to do that?

From my sister: you still need to pay the fine plus extra for the SA course.

Slow down. It saves money and most importantly lives.

Shellfishgirl · 04/04/2026 20:49

Hoping that the fact it was hand held and not a fixed camera will help. I think the fixed ones always get you.

Nope. It’s one of the other. SAC is usually around the same cost as a fixed penalty.

Mosaalolsu · 04/04/2026 21:11

Surely you would have seen the police

Def saw them at nice. Hoping they weren’t there everyday for the week. It was just one officer with a gun on a tripod.

No you don’t! It’s either pay the fine or pay & attend the course, not both.

OP - are you sure it was 16th March? You have to be informed within 14 days of the offence.

Shellfishgirl · 05/04/2026 06:59

suffer with bad anxiety and I think I’m overthinking it. I was caught on 19th and I’m sure I saw the officer the following week once. My friend who does same commute can’t recall seeing them at all. I just want to know what I’m dealing with. I don’t advocate speeding and I know I was wrong to not stick to the limit.

They’re crafty fuckers, they stay well hidden. 😉😁.

Nineteen days not fourteen.

If you lease your car then the notification goes to the lease company first, so it often takes longer than 2 weeks for the driver to get it.

The one from the 28th arrived yesterday 4th April and was dated at April. A quick turnaround

My next door neighbour got caught three times on the same camera in the same week. It was a fixed camera though. He did the course and got six points for the other two times. Not each, three points for each.

Was it a fixed cam or a mobile one? From what I’ve read it’s less likely to get repeatedly caught by a human operated cam.

Do you now have two fines one from the 16th and one from the 28th?
