What’s the worst thing you’ve witnessed in a Teams/Zoom meeting?

I am ultra paranoid about online meetings, as I’ve witnessed a few mishaps:

  1. A woman took a personal phone call and didn’t realise a colleague had left their mic on. She started slagging the whole team off and we could hear every word.
  2. A man left his mic on and went to the toilet
  3. Not me personally - but a friend was in a meeting where a woman left her cam on by accident and she had just got out of the shower. She then got dressed in full view of everyone on the meeting.

I wouldn’t dare do any of those things even near my laptop, just incase of an accident occurring.

I had a chance to work on the top team in my company, I joined a conference call as one head flushed a toilet and laughed as he blamed it on the next embarrassed person to join the conference call. My eyes were certainly opened as to what sort of people were running the company that day.

DP had one where he called his boss out on something in a departmental meeting and it quickly got out of hand, I was in the next room listening to them yelling at each other thinking what the HELL! His boss ended up logging off he was so mad.

One of DP's colleagues who was in head office later rang him to say the boss had been so cross he'd slammed his laptop down before kicking his office door so hard the door handle fell off and they had to call facilities to free him hahaha.

Years ago I worked on the switch board for a large department store. We gave out a message on the tannoy 10 minutes before the shop closed, to warn we were closing. Once I left the tannoy switched on by accident so everyone in the shop could hear us bitching and gossiping.

Reminds me, my son's sport they love stream the matches. My friend and her friend didn't know they were sat under the camera and they were having a good old catch-up for the duration. They covered lots of personal stuff including her pelvic floor issues, a rant about her husband and gossiped about a fellow school mum. They whole thing was streamed live, much more interesting than the game! It had to be taken down and re-uoloaded without sound.

Worst thing I've ever seen in a Teams meeting

My own face

LOL, technology is brutal isn"t it? Worst thing I saw was a guy going to sleep during a training session with managers and going into deep snoring sleep!

During the middle of the working day, the woman's husband strolled in wearing a dressing gown (chest hair on display) and handed her a glass of champagne and started massaging her shoulders

I’m jealous 🥂

Season 5 No GIF by The Office

If I’m hosting I usually join 15 minutes early. A young man came on screen, hopping on one foot trying to put his trousers on. Luckily I was able to deactivate his camera!
DDog often sleeps next to my desk where there’s a puddle of sunlight. During a meeting (microphone on) he did a smelly fart and I couldn’t help reacting…

It’s probably not the worst, but once I was in a training on zoom and I got bored (blergh, principles of project management II) and was messing around with settings and managed to put a top hat 🎩 on myself. 🤣 I panicked and in my panic couldn’t figure out how to remove it.

The presenter clearly saw me, wearing a top hat, freaking out, and completely lost his train of thought. So awkward. 🫣 Three more full days of project management and trying to pretend like that didn’t happen. 😬

Thats funny. It reminds me of one which went viral where a man turned himself into a cat and didn’t seem to realise at first and then couldn’t stop it 🤣

During the first lockdown I was in a zoom conference with about 40 people, all tiny squares on the screen. One guy in the bottom corner had this very intense, concentrating frown. My eye kept being drawn to him because his face didn’t change at all. Eventually I realised he had managed to make a still of himself into his screen for the call, presumably to free him up to do something else, or maybe nothing at all.., seemed a good idea tbf, in theory anyway.

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 03/04/2026 23:35

One colleague let out an enthusiastic and lengthy burp while we were waiting for the meeting to start. His Teams circle lit up and betrayed him. It was quickly followed by an “oh shit” and him muting himself.

ClawsandEffect · 03/04/2026 23:52

Not a company meeting, but I teach international students online. I was teaching a 13 year old boy from Hong Kong (homes are VERY small there, due to the enormous COL) in a Zoom meeting when his dad started walking backwards and forwards in his underpants in front of the camera, completely oblivious that he could be seen.

The poor kid was really embarrassed so I pretended I'd not noticed, which went down well.

Dad was quite hot, so I wasn't too put out. Beats teaching reluctant teenagers any day!

tachetastic · 03/04/2026 23:53

During an in-person meeting that team members could dial into a male colleague finished presenting, but about 20 minutes later must have knocked his camera and microphone back on, which not only turned his camera on but pinned it to the centre of the 20 foot cinema screen at the front of the meeting room. The entire division could only watch in silence as this man, now topless with wet hair and clearly just out of the shower was walking around his bedroom getting ready. Thankfully one of the support staff managed to turn his camera off before we found out if he was wearing anything below the waist! 🙈🙈🙈

Omg the best one so far 😂

My DP had a teams court Hearing for the financial resolution hearing and his alcoholic ex was in her PJ’s wretching & when the judge challenged her on her attire, she back chatted her. She also took a teams call drunk from her bed in pj’s with social workers & the school! Everyone was cringing so hard while she believed she was doing nothing wrong!

HotRootsAndNaughtyToots · 03/04/2026 23:59

ClairDeLaLune · 03/04/2026 22:59

Oh and also in a team meeting someone suggested having a Teams social where people brought their lunch along. Boss said - do people really want to watch colleagues masticate? 4 people got the giggles and had to leave the call.

Excellent I'm stealing this

A friend of mine was seen ironing.
Didn't realise until 3 text messages later "can you do mine?"

My cousin was doing that, and taking phone calls, all through my dad's online funeral during Covid. It really pissed me off.

Bloodycrossstitch · 04/04/2026 00:14

Not a meeting but I had an interview over teams in the midst of covid, where the interview was just slowly disappearing off the bottom of the the screen as he just slouched lower and lower in his chair.

Negroany · 04/04/2026 00:14

I was once representing an employer at an employment tribunal pre hearing. It had come to me at short notice and my car was booked in for an MOT. The hearing was by group call though, not video.

I agreed with the garage I could take the call in their waiting room. All going fine, I've got the phone on loud speaker, the judge is asking me a question.....when the mechanic must have started my car engine in the adjacent workshop and my phone connected to the Bluetooth so the judge's voice was blasting out across the whole place, and he couldn't hear my response.

It took me a moment to work out what had happened, turn off the Bluetooth on the phone, apologise for the "technical issue" and request that the judge repeat the question 🤦🏻‍♀️

Accidentally shared my screen during a meeting... I was on a job search website Blush

How unprofessional (if this is real). Edited to add, no-one with any sense would put a call like this on a speaker 🙄

Uenanbah · 04/04/2026 00:36

Sat tweezing my chin hairs thinking the camera was off, it wasn't. Very embarrassing
