If this existed, would you buy it?

Imagine Mondelez brought out a Premium Cadbury’s which was Old Recipe but was £££ would you buy it?

I don’t work for them or anything but it seems to me that they are missing a trick with all the complaints about the quality now. The quality has gone down due to the price of ingredients going up hence the potential to turn it in to a luxury product
with a Extra Special Edition

what other things that don’t exist would you buy if they did?

well as a one off maybe, but I don't eat much chocolate these days because of a couple of health issues & so on the rare occasion I do I'm happy with a bit if Cadbury's Easter egg, so I buy 4 of the ones with chocolate buttons inside the egg & that lasts me for the year.

I’d buy Ribena and every other fizzy drink if they brought back the original full fat recipes, with the added sweetener they taste awful

I'd buy original ribenna. Not bothered by fizzy drinks...

Apparently Cadbury’s Flake bars are still made using the old Cadbury chocolate recipe. But I haven’t had one in ages so cannot verify.
Any Flake fans out there who still buy it and like it? Or fans who think the recipe and the bar did in fact change?
(I read that it was because the new recipe chocolate could not ‘flake’ properly so they had to stick with the original one for that particular bar.)

Montezuma’s buttons I’m sure used to be £5 a pack but they were amazing. Haven’t had them in years because I don’t live near a Waitrose anymore.

As Cadbury's are well known to use child labour and modern slavery, no.

Buy the massive 850g grams (£10-15 Amazon) they are much more like the old style ie dull and chalky looking rather than shiny and oily,

Chocolate?

Meh, haven’t noticed Flakes being like the old stuff. Freddos sometimes taste reminiscent of it. I am told, in the Cadbury’s lore, you can still buy the original recipe CDM in Ireland - perhaps someone can confirm if this is just a wicked rumour? 🤔

BessieSurtees · 29/03/2026 18:47

Does Ireland not still do old Cadbury chocolate?

Snackpocket · 29/03/2026 18:47

I’d definitely pay extra for a Spira, if it tasted like a Spira used to!

I was unaware there were shady practices involved until just now when I googled it. I thought it was committed to ethical sourcing. Apparently not. Thanks for the heads up.

They sometimes do a sort of happy meal of McDonald’s for adults. They recently had the Friends characters with Adult meals.

They did til really quite recently but definitely don’t now, there was another thread about it.

Oh a Spira! And they were low calorie!

No. It was always cheap, crappy chocolate. Admittedly it's now even crappier. Aldi Moser Roth milk chocolate is virtually the same price and is really nice - no palm oil or E numbers, unlike Cadbury's Dairy Milk. No need to go back in time!

They had grinch socks before Christmas.

Galaxy makes my throat sting. I do buy the giant buttons though. Keep them in the fridge as a snack. They still taste good but maybe because I'm eating less.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/03/2026 18:58

No but only because I have never heard of Mondelez!

Bikergran · 29/03/2026 19:01

Galaxy isn't the same any more, it used to be silky smooth, now it's as grainy in your mouth as any other chocolate.

They used to sell these pasta crisps at M&S. About 25 years ago. They had this beautiful texture and crunch. I think they were some sort of tomato flavour and I presume, made of pasta? They tested a bit polenta-ish as well if I recall.

Also the chilled Margherita pizza from there in the 90s. It had a real basil leaf and circles of real mozzarella on and tasted better than many restaurant pizzas now.

Pricelessadvice · 29/03/2026 19:05

Didn’t they deny that the recipe changed?

I have a vague memory of it tasting nicer in the 80s and early 90s, but I don’t know if I am just remembering the whole thing wrong. I did used to love the purple foil. I also preferred the chocolate being rectangle than this weird rounded thing they’ve gone for now.

Myfridgeiscool · 29/03/2026 19:12

People must still be buying the waxy candle chocolate else they’d have gone out of business or changed it back by now.
I’d not pay extra for the old recipe.
I’m eating Waitrose own brand non palm oil choc these days.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 29/03/2026 19:12

Not so much don't exist, but unavailable.
e.g. lambs' brains, sweetbreads.
I'm sure sheep are born with all their innards, but where the fuck are they for sale?
