There are things about Australia (and probably every other country) which might be considered "better" than the UK. And there are things about the UK which might be considered "better" than Australia (and probably other countries).

What one person considers "better" is not necessarily what another person would consider "better".

So it's a bit of a pointless question, really, as what's better for one person won't necessarily be better for the next.

And it isn't a competition anyway.

CompanyOfThieves · 27/03/2026 19:35

UK - no poisonous spiders
Australia - all the poisonous spiders

Kimchi · 27/03/2026 19:39

You do realise Australia has a history as well don’t you? It just looks different to that of the UK. Moreover, settler colonialism attempted and in many ways succeeded, in erasing a lot of it.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 27/03/2026 19:40

This is a very strange question. All countries have their good and bad points.

Your arguments are extremely weird as well.

You do know Australia technically has royalty as well? Not that that’s a recommendation for either country.

I couldn’t care less about how famous the universities are. I’m not a student and don’t work at a university so they are an irrelevance to me.

UK does have fewer animals that want to kill you!

And this - Australia has one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures.

MrThorpeHazell · 28/03/2026 11:45

Compare lists of venomous and poisonous fauna in the two countries.

You will soon see which is the better option!

And that is before we get onto the question of the beer.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/03/2026 11:49

What an odd premise for a thread.

Have you spent a lot of time studying at those famous universities OP?

What about royal banquets, do you get to those often?

Edit: I don't know how I ended up quoting a different post. Sorry.

Also sharks and saltwater crocodiles - not that you’d probably see them anyway!

JassyRadlett · 28/03/2026 12:12

I really never understand why people focus so much on the spiders when there are only two that are properly dangerous, and they're rare.

Snakes. Snakes are an issue. The bastards.

OP it's a really weird premise to your question. I've spent roughly half my life in each place and like anywhere, both have good points and bad points, each will suit some people better than others.

The weird point scoring/one place must be deemed "better" speaks to a particularly deep-seated insecurity.

When j think of those universities and royal banquets it makes me feel proud to be British. Look at whe. Queen Elizabeth cane to the throne and all the pomp and circumstance that went with it what other country has that and when Sheila's 18 she made the speech to serve her country for the test if her life. I still think she was the best monarch we have ever had. So refined and lovely. Long may her legacy live

Possibly what the Australians called the Queen OP is going on about?

JassyRadlett · 28/03/2026 15:17

Choosing a shared dead monarch of your sense of pride when it comes to Britain over Australia is an interesting one.

Why the Australia obsession, OP? 196/7 other sovereign nations, why is it Australia you need to assert superiority over?

The Spiders are not poisonous - unless you’re planning on eating them. And even then i don’t think you’d be poisoned.

they are, however, venomous

She vowed to serve the Commonwealth. Including Australia.

She then went on to spend millions paying off one of the victims of her paedophile son. Some legacy, eh?

OP is drunk.

LadyInRainbow · 29/03/2026 02:32

royal banquets have you been to many? Guessing if they are a regular occurrence for you you can probably go and explore Australia

Just about every spider in the world is venomous. It's how they live.

No-one has died of a spider bite in Australia since 1979.

pikachu11 · 29/03/2026 02:39

Pros and cons to both, surely? In the end, I believe life is what you make it wherever you are.

Snakes and sharks, on the other hand…

Passwordsaremynemesis · 29/03/2026 03:20

I’ve lived in both. They are both great countries, both have their plusses and minuses. The spiders aren’t really a big problem in Oz, and we have some really cool animals and birds, I saw wild emus on a little road trip a few weeks ago! Personally I prefer Australia, but its horses for courses really.I wouldn’t say one country was objectively better though, it’s really down to personal preference.

Lifesd · 29/03/2026 04:25

Is the OP on drugs? Anyway on the flora and fauna I’ve lived in australia for 3 years and have yet to see a snake - saw one big hairy spider in the garage but had far more horrid big bastards in the UK. Not seen one in our house and long may that continue.
