Has anyone applied for PIP and been accepted straight away?

Has anyone applied for PIP and been accepted straight away WITHOUT having to have a phone call after you sent your form/evidence back? Was it enough on paper so they didn’t have to contact you?

just curious? Thanks x

Following with interest. I’ve applied and heard nothing since a confirmation text to say they had my paperwork.

bloomchamp · 27/03/2026 19:08

I did. But I did send in lots of evidence of my disability. I sent reports from my consultants, occupational health, physio, wheelchair assessment. A timetable of care and a rundown of what my carer does for me each day (I pay for a carer in the morning) and a copy of my meds. I was very detailed in my questionnaire. I had a quick call to confirm a couple of things and was awarded a week later.

AlwaysNuance · 27/03/2026 19:08

My DC (I am their appointee) we had a 10 min call to clarify one or two things first time round, then 4 year award of high level for both. The renewal was just accepted with no call, 3 years high level for both.

Autism with selective mutism and severe anxiety (pretty much housebound before we got pip, with social services assessment confirming presentation first time round. Now goes out but only with carer or family).

I never filled it in based on "worst days" just very honest on the impact on DC's life.

No. Rejected 3x, I have ms. My niece gets it for high functioning autism
apparently it’s my fault for not being good at filling in forms

34feeling54 · 27/03/2026 19:09

My husband does. I forget the terminology but he's on a long term award for highest rate so they don't ask for renewal of forms and info so often as usual. Thank the lord.

KurtCobainLover · 27/03/2026 19:10

I had an assessment for the initial decision but all my renewals have been done on paper - I do submit a lot of evidence.

strongmamaxo · 27/03/2026 19:11

@bloomchampdo you have any advice when filling in the form as I want to try and do as much as I can to avoid going round in circles but I get brain fog . And due to my bad anxiety I want to try and avoid phone calls if possible, hence why I want to try and get as much down . Xx thanks

Maybe you should go to a CAB for help in filling the form. That is not to say that you will be awarded anything, but at least you would know that you have filled the form correctly, you may just not meet the threshold for any help.

youalright · 27/03/2026 19:19

Yes but I was only given low rate motability and nothing for daily living went for mr and got high rate on both.

changedusernameforthis1 · 27/03/2026 19:24

My DS (14) has - he has ADD, GDD and is doubly incontinent.

GuiltyPleasure · 27/03/2026 19:24

I’m appointee for my DC. I had a very brief phone call (probably no more than 5 minutes) to clarify a couple of things. Awarded higher rate for both for 4 years. I filled in the form comprehensively, but didn’t send any additional evidence as DC had received DLA since age 5, so I was satisfied that everything relevant was already documented previously in medical records, EHCP etc. Apart from the form being time-consuming to fill in, it was a really straight-forward process.

CharlotteSometimeslikesanafternoonnap · 27/03/2026 19:26

DD did, no call, came through v quickly.

BloodandGlitter · 27/03/2026 19:27

Yes. I got high rate care and standard mobility. I didn't have a lot of evidence to send it as despite it being for my mental health there's very little help available to me and I had been rejected from multiple self referral places for my problems being too severe.

Can a 14 year old get pip?

An ongoing award? You are reassessed every 10 years but it's not the full form you filled in the first time around

That is harsh but unfortunately may well be true. It certainly was in my case.

I went to tribunal and was refused with 0 points. I was so cross, I applied again on the same day of the tribunal. I eventually had a health assessment and was awarded a few days after that.

For my second application. I did the course on the Benefits and Work website, so I filled out the form much better. When I did my first form, I got help from
an advisor at CAB (most people say they they are excellent) and I realised that she gave me bad advice.

i also got some extra evidence, which was very impactful: a hard-hitting letter of support from my former employer and a 2-month symptom diary. The health assessor actually said the symptom diary was very helpful.

I have ME/CFS (symptoms are fairly similar to MS and I was actually misdiagnosed with MS) and autism.

wracky · 27/03/2026 19:40

No but DS just had a fairly perfunctory phone call. She said she was checking details but it was no more than me repeating a couple of details I'd already put on the form.

No, maybe they meant DLA.

Yes, but 6 years ago during covid when I became quadruple amputee

previouslyknownas · 27/03/2026 19:44

My niece got a 4 year award first time with just a phone call Interview

second review had an award done by paper got an award with no end date

I filled out her forms for her both times

you have to remember it’s not about your illness it’s about how it affects your ability to do certain things

I will say though if you work they will
try to use that against you

ie - you say you can’t speak on the phone
but you work in call centre

that you struggle to go out alone / plan a route
but you go to work each day

if you do work and you have any adjustments for working make sure you get a letter outlining what adjustments you have and why

x2boys · 27/03/2026 19:55

My son is due transition to PIP this year hes severely autistic with severe learning disabilities functions at around 2/3 years of age his needs are very clear and complex and I have loads of evidence i know many kids with similar disabilities have not needed an interview.

strongmamaxo · 27/03/2026 20:06

@BloodandGlittermine is for my MH too. What evidence did you submit if you don’t mind me asking xx

Mine was mh and physical but for mh part my cpn wrote me a letter, so did my psychiatrist. I included discharge letters from inpatient stays.

I called the CAB for help and they told me they don't do forms, I got help from Age UK and most recently my local councillor filled in the review form for me. They gave me an extension but didn't upgrade me to the higher rate which is what I was hoping for.

Op, I have had to have a phone assessment for all of my claims. I had two for one claim. I requested a face-to-face assessment for my last and they refused due to fall risk!

Arran2024 · 27/03/2026 20:47

Both my daughters get PIP. They were transferred over from DLA in the early days of PIP. Since then they have both had at least two renewals.

One daughter got 29 points. She has never had an interview of any kind.

The other was turned down but given 12 points at mandatory reconsideration. She has had telephone calls on renewal.

So I think a lot depends on how convinced they are that you will qualify.

Daughter who was turned down at first - i sent in so much evidence. I had 23 separate reports. She had gone to a special needs school, she was diagnosed with several conditions....I believe they went mainly with the report at the f2f interview and ignored the other evidence. F2f was an absolute joke.

If you are turned down, ask for a copy of the assessor's report. I think everyone, or nearly everyone, who is turned down will have had an online/telephone or f2f assessment and they put a lot of emphasis on it.
