What food blender should I get?

Nosejobnelly · 26/03/2026 08:13

I’ve been looking online and IRL at various food blenders and can’t decide. Basically I’d like one for smoothies, sauces and soup.

i have a nutibullet but it’s very awkward to use as the force needed to push down the jug now it’s older (it’s had a lot of use), and the stick blender for soup is on its way out.

I don’t really want a soup maker type, haven’t got a lot of room. Also, glass jug blenders seem heavy esp if you add the actual liquid.

Money isn’t a massive factor - up to £300 is fine.

I have a Ninja (not Nutribullet) blender, the glass jug kind and I can't quite get over how much better it is than every other blender I've ever had. I get a little bit excited whenever I use it.

Get a Magimix food processor. They are so useful for lots of different stuff. Mine is 25 years old. Still going strong, never had any problems, looks like new.

puppyparent · 26/03/2026 12:25

I’ve had various blenders and processors. But what I always use is my Braun hand blender (stick blender). It’s perfect for everything, lightweight yet powerful, takes up almost zero storage space in the kitchen, and so quick to clean: just pop out the steel stick and wash it.

I can’t think of anything I would need to blend that would require anything more complicated than this

The Ninja Soup maker is amazing and works very well as a blender as well.
Can’t recommend it enough.

edited to say. I know you said it’s heavy etc, it is but very much worth it.

HoppityBun · 26/03/2026 12:29

I’ve both a Bamix hand blender and a magimix goblet blender. Both are useful. The hand blender is brilliant for blending mixes in the jar you’re going to keep them in and it’s fine for mashing various things.

But for 100% smoothness, the Magimix can’t be beaten. I like some of my soups and sauces to be absolutely smooth and that does the job very well.

somekindof · 26/03/2026 12:34

I am puzzled by the recommendations for a magimix. I have one and love it, but it’s not suitable for soup or smoothies unless you’re not making much as it is not water tight. Fill it with too much runny stuff and it leaks out.
A good stick blender compliments the magimix nicely

I’ve got one but it doesn’t do liquid well.

Exactly- see my reply above. If people are talking about the blender, that’s different. My mum had a magimix and liquidiser as they were called back in the day.

You don’t find it too heavy?

Yours must be faulty. Mine has never leaked except on 2 occasions when I didn’t tighten it securely enough. It’s fabulous. You can’t get the same result with the food processor though I must admit that I’d like one of those, too.

RollOnSunshine · 26/03/2026 13:05

Our £50 Phillips has lasted many years and still blends perfectly. A blender is a blade, motor and container so not a great deal of Research & development is needed. I cannot see how there is any need to spend hundreds of pounds on one. But I guess 'marketing'.

I’m the same - I like ultra smooth. The nutribullet does it well but we all struggle with the pushing it down , even DS and DH!

I saw a JL one for £60 but it had shite reviews. Maybe they were made better back in the day. Today’s £100 was £50 not that long ago!

i tried the ninja but returned it as found it too heavy. I got the nutribullet instead and love it.

Own brand is probably best avoided for electronics IMO.

BreadInCaptivity · 26/03/2026 13:16

I have a (newish) nutribullet and a Bamix stick blender.

With the bamix I also bought the slicesy attachment (it’s like a mini food processor that will chop/grate/slice). This has pretty much replaced my kitchen aid food processor on a day to day basis unless I’m catering for a party or making a massive batch of something. It’s easy to store/use and gets lots of use.

Between the two I have found I can do everything I need from smoothies, soups, grinding spices to mayonnaise and coleslaw/grating cheese (re: the coleslaw I use the slicesy to prep the vegetables veg and use the bamix to make mayo).

All with gadgets that take up minimal counter/cupboard space.

I have the Ninja Foodi 3 in 1 which I really like. It's not too big so doesn't take up much storage space.

mine doesn’t leak, I make soup weekly!

I also like the Ninja ones.

It is heavy, and big. However it's a trade off I'm happy enough to make for the outstanding blending.

Dartmoorcheffy · 26/03/2026 19:56

In my job I have used all of them and that ninja 3 in 1 is absolutely fantastic. We had one at a care home i worked in and it was the best for getting really smooth purees as well as everything else it does.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/03/2026 20:02

That looks pretty nifty , I'm impressed at the range of tasks it can do .

I had a Ninja blender that had the plastic cup you screwed the lid on then upended onto the base (blades in the lid) . The lid was a pain to unscrew with my feeble hands and it smelled really musty if stored with the lid on Envy . It went through the dishwasher so was cleaned properly .

I have an Asda stick blender which is ok but not got the power . I was hankering after a Bamix but the Ninja might do it

Jijithecat · 26/03/2026 23:01

@70isaLimitNotaTarget it is nifty. The only annoyance for me is that I don't think the lid of the chopper attachment can go through the dishwasher/be immersed in water. I'm never quite sure how to clean it properly.
The size of the Ninja means that I actually use it. I used to have a Kenwood food mixer and after a while I just avoided using it because it was so big it felt like too much effort to get it out of the cupboard. I sold the Kenwood so that I could justify buying the Ninja.
