Ozempic- DH not overweight but he’s ordered some

tigermums · 22/03/2026 09:07

As the title, he’s not overweight though could do with losing a stone or so. He’s over 6’ so carries weight well iyswim and his BMI is currently 25. He has always fluctuated between 22-25 BMI depending on his lifestyle at the time and depending on how busy his (stressful) job is. Essentially if he doesn’t have time to run or eat healthily he will gain a bit and feel rubbish. At other time work will be quieter and he’ll get into running for 6 months and get trim again. He’s run half marathons when he’s at his peak.

I don’t know much about Ozempic but he told me he’s ordered a months worth as he feels rubbish and his clothes are tight, plus his work is a nightmare at the moment so he feels he needs the kickstart.

AIBU to feel uncomfortable or is it fine / normal these days? My worries are:

  1. its not healthy living using drugs to control apetite
  2. as soon as you stop you go back to wherever you were
  3. the alternative is you spend your life on drugs
  4. Surely they must be bad for you? Bad for the liver?
  5. he has weak willpower with eating at times and I’d rather he got on top of it through willpower alone (as he’s done successfully in the past) as I think he feels stronger and better in himself that way
  6. if the drugs reduce appetite how do you ensure you’re getting enough nutrition
  7. are the drugs dangerous?

he’s saying it’s only a temporary step to kickstart him but I feel weird about it. Am I unreasonable / controlling?

If he is not overweight, then he would not need to lose a stone, or two.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 22/03/2026 09:14

Welcome to Mumsnet! Out of interest what country are you in? In the UK ozempic is only licensed for use by diabetics.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 22/03/2026 09:14

Why would you be controlling? You aren’t stopping him? I think it’s fine to have concerns and discuss these with him, but ultimately it’s his choice

He doesn’t “need” to lose anything- as I’ve already said his BMI is 25. But he is happier when he’s around 22. And being at 25 doesn’t leave any room for further weight gain.

UK. He found it very easily online.

Guessing you are just saying ezempic as a generic term? If not check he knows which drug he actually ordered

SirChenjins · 22/03/2026 09:29

Where's he getting it from with that BMI?

Wickedlittledancer · 22/03/2026 09:34

If he’s bought ozempic then he’s bought an illegal and fake uncontrolled substance, ozempic is not sold in the uk for weight loss.

the drugs used correctly are perfectly safe and some pharmacies now prescribe at bmi 25, but not ozempic. Thats onky for diabetes in the uk,

This is a side point from the rest of the thread - but this isn’t entirely true. There is more than a stone of weight inside my healthy BMI. I am very short and feel sluggish at the top end of my healthy allocation. I currently need to lose just under stone to get to a BMI of about 20 which is where my body feels healthy (I am only 5ft so there is nowhere for the fat to go - 5lb is a the difference between dress sizes to me, and the top and bottom of my healthy BMI is the difference between a size 6 and a size 14/16)

Are you sure it isn't wegovy or mounjaro he's ordered? These are the UK equivalent drugs for weight loss, ozempic is very much illegal for weight loss purposes in the UK and if it was genuinely ozempic he has ordered I would be extremely concerned. If its a UK equivalent drug I'd be less concerned as these aren't as harsh and much easier to come off. It's likely he'll try it for a couple of weeks, then stop taking when the side effects kick in

tigermums · 22/03/2026 09:44

IM not sure no. He said Ozempic but I’ll check. What are the main side effects / issues? I can google this ofc.

Hi OP. If you find out which WLI he has ordered there are many threads in the weight loss section where users have shared their experiences and side effects etc. Might be helpful to you (and your DH).

80 percent of people have no side effects, those who do it’s mainly mild gastro, over 50 million on the drugs globally, no deaths from correct usage of legitimate product.

the issue isn’t if he’s using correctly prescribed meds, the issue here is if he’s went and bought fake crap from China,

Probably depends which one he’s ordered. If you google ozempic loads of options come up but they arnt ozempic.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 22/03/2026 10:02

He would get it from anyone reputable online with BMI of 25. Unless he’s lied. Most good websites want proof and photos. Also Ozempic isnt available in the UK without a prescription. Please check here he’s got it from as it’s likely it’s fake and his knows what’s in it.

AfternoonVanessa · 22/03/2026 11:06

He could get constipated. Sickness and diarrhea.

I'm BMI 26 and can't access it. Sounds dodgy to me.

Yeah you can some pharmacies are now offering from bmi 25. Well not ozempic. But you can get thr ones for weight loss.

GreenLemonade · 22/03/2026 13:52

He'll be fine. Just make sure he gets it from a legitimate pharmacy.

Voy, Med express, Onlinepharmacy... All offering wegovy and mounjaro off license at BMI 25.

Catcatcatcatcat · 22/03/2026 14:10

I agree it’s very unlikely he has Ozempic.

It could be fake Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro.

SilenceInside · 22/03/2026 14:19

It’s not unreasonable to have questions about a prescription medication. I would start by finding out the basic information about Wegovy (not Ozempic as others have explained), and what its intended to be prescribed for. He doesn’t meet the prescribing criteria so any legitimate pharmacy prescribing to him would be doing so off licence. That means he would need understand what that means in terms of risk and safety. There are no health benefits to him losing weight, but all the risks of taking a prescription medication.

The most important thing to find out first is what exactly he’s acquired and how. If it’s not legitimate then he should not inject himself with it, clearly.
