@martha79 I've had a similar day. Read a bit and napped a bit. I'm feeling fairly awful. Raging tinnitus and feeling weak. Work again tomorrow and school runs.. back to the grind. I'm just reminding myself that I always feel awful but I cope so will be ok. 🤞🏻

I really enjoyed my book. It was actually laugh out loud funny in places which makes a change. We need more laughs.

@Tiredandwired2 museum and park sounds good. Lifts the spirits (even if knacking our bodies!).

Have had a wonderful day celebrating double birthdays with all of my family 🥳

Lunch out (with a glass of wine 🍷) followed by cake and cheese courtesy of DD 🎂

Am knackered but happy, and my headache has gone. Work tomorrow - hopefully I'll hear my alarm ⏰

MewithME · 12/04/2026 21:16

That's lovely to hear @Swanhilde 🥰

What was the book @MewithME ? I’m reading I’m not as Well as I thought I was by Ruby Wax and it has some good funny moments. Hope you feel better tomorrow and getting back to the routine isn’t too much of a jolt. @Swanhilde sounds fun- hope yo get a good sleep before alarm goes off.

I had a good morning health wise relative to how I’ve been so I’ll take it. Felt semi normal for half of it, even.

Now watching The Pitt. Really recommended The Other Bennett Sister for those who were thinking of watching it. Also went to see The Drama at the cinema and loved it.

MewithME · 12/04/2026 22:46

@TheChicSnail It's John Boyne's the Echo Chamber. Can't believe it's the same author of the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It's really very silly and all the characters are brilliantly awful.

Sounds good- have put it on my Goodreads list.

I can't even remember buying it or whether someone bought it for me but it's an actual paperbacks and not Kindle for a change. It's been nice reading. Must be doing a bit better mentally at least as often I struggle with reading. Probably been in holiday mode helped!

I must try and sleep. I'm all off kilter. This is the most awake I've felt all day 🙈

Haha typical!

Kindle has revolutionised my reading this year from reading nothing to reading every day. Helps me sleep too!

I suggest getting a book out :)

Morning all
A bit of a slow start to the day, woke early but feeling tired and achy today so let the dog out and came straight back to bed. Still here and now on my second cuppa thanks to DH. So a quiet day I think as need to listen to my body today.

Hope getting back to work/ school runs isn’t too painful @MewithME Inset day here but tomorrow will be a shock to the system for all of us setting the alarm again. DD sorts herself out now at 18 which is lovely but I do need to check shes actually up and nag her to eat something!

So pleased you managed a lovely day @Swanhilde Sounds fabulous

Yay to shaving your legs @martha79 I did mine for the first time in months recently and it definitely feels better!

Great job on the spare room declutter/ organisation @Tiredandwired2 so satisfying to achieve these things and your museum/ park outing sounds well worth it.

@TheChicSnail also been reading more this year though a mix of kindle/ audiobooks depending on energy and I’ve been really enjoying it.

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/04/2026 10:10

Morning all!

Just a quick hello. I've caught up on all your posts and enjoyed the chats.

I can see OK out of my operated eye but my pupil stayed dilated for 3 days so it's been very bright to read screens or watch TV. Otherwise all fine, apart from not bending or lifting for a while. Also I've been wearing sunglasses in my south facing bathroom!

I was very anxious for my op, BP rocketed of course, but I was very relieved when it was over. I was upbeat and busy on Saturday, then crashed on Sunday of course! DH commented that it was 48 hours from my big trip out and op, so PEM was pretty well guaranteed. This misery that descends with a crash is very typical. Hopefully back on an upwards trajectory.

Anyway all good so far, lots of drops for a month, eyeshield in bed for the first week. I've got a contraption like a Victorian bustle that ties to my pillow and stops me sleeping on my side. It is actually fairly comfortable, and so far is working.

I go back in a month and start all over again for the second eye.

Hope everyone has a lovely day. It's very pleasant here. I'll be indoors listening to my audiobook!

martha79 · 13/04/2026 10:16

Glad to hear recovery is going well @TeaAndStrumpets

I've also been enjoying reading more recently - got a mix of actual books, ebooks and audiobooks on the go.

Quite glad to have these couple of days off work this week. Been for a little walk this morning although my hips were protesting, and am planning to read/ nap/ potter around the rest of the day. Tomorrow I've got my initial appointment for the long COVID clinic - an hour and a half of video call, so not planning anything else around that.

TheChicSnail · 13/04/2026 10:21

@TeaAndStrumpets recover well!

@martha79 good luck with your clinic appointment- hope it is useful/supportive.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/04/2026 12:12

Quiet day here, just catching up on everyone's posts. Bit showery here, was thinking of going for a walk but it is hard to know what the weather is doing.

I have a new book on Buddhism but the writing seems really small, maybe better go for an eye test. I put them off as I don't like parts of it. And the hassle of going into town.

Kind thoughts top everyone and hope your days go well DaffodilFlowers

TodayIsatrickyone · 13/04/2026 12:34

Glad to hear you’re recovering well @TeaAndStrumpets though sorry PEM kicked in yesterday. Take it very easy as still early days!

Oh gosh @Orangesandlemons77 I put off an eye test for so long when I was mostly housebound. DH bought me a few pairs of cheap reading specs from home bargains which I used until I really had to get them tested!
Someone told me specsavers have a service where they’ll visit at home but when I enquired it was quite expensive unless you get free tests anyway so I just waited until I was able to cope getting out a bit better.

Gettingbysomehow · 13/04/2026 12:40

I'm at work full time, today working in the vascular clinic removing black, necrotic toes and the like.
It makes me grateful that my disability isn't the end of the world. My employers are very good and make a lot of allowances for me.
I'd like to work part time really but my husband abandoned me as sadly many of them do when you become disabled and the mortgage and bills must get paid.
I don't miss him 😊I don't think a person who abandons a sick spouse and puts them through a horrible and stressful divorce is worth a light.

Good riddance, what a jerk. Such a sad familiar tale.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/04/2026 13:07

@TeaAndStrumpets glad all is going well. Go easy on yourself & don't overdo it.

@Gettingbysomehow so sorry you went through that. Hopefully Karma will bite him in the ass when he least expects it (sudden & excruciating diarrhea in a long traffic jam maybe?)

bedfrog · 13/04/2026 14:27

martha79 · 12/04/2026 19:44

Hope you're feeling a bit better and enjoyed Ikea @bedfrog

I've had two massive naps but also finished a book, had a quick walk and planted a few things out in the garden. Narrowly dodged a hail storm though!

In momentous news... I have shaved my legs this evening. It's been at least six months - I just haven't had the inclination or energy. I really tried to embrace the furry legs but it does feel so much nicer now ☺️

Well I blacked out (figuratively!) in ikea and have come home with an enormous bear, Djungelskog if you want to google him Grin dh pushed me around in a wheelchair which I just HATE and ended up feeling stiff afterwards, but I didnt get the PEM today that I usually do, so I suppose thats good?! I hate this illness so much. Have found out SIL is pregnant so I've been starting to knit some baby jumpers, whilst also dealing with the old familiar feelings of "why do I have to be sick? Why can't I be the pregnant one?". So it's really a tough one today. I did put a few plants in pots this morning so I'll be taking it is easy this afternoon.
Hope everyone is having a reasonable Monday!

TodayIsatrickyone · 13/04/2026 14:48

My son (26!) and GF have that same bear @bedfrog 😂It’s very nice to cuddle when you feel crappy even if it takes up its own sofa space. I have the big ikea dog that’s my daughter’s but I refused to rehome it when she decided she’d outgrown it so it sits on my little window seat!
Sorry to hear of the mixed feelings today, I had a long spell of infertility pre illness although was fortunate enough to have my two children eventually. I still remember how tough it was all these years on especially when friends/ family announced pregnancies so be kind to yourself and feel whatever you need to feel.

@Gettingbysomehow sorry to hear that happened to you. Disability definitely brings out people’s true colours eh?!

Gettingbysomehow · 13/04/2026 15:16

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/04/2026 12:43

Good riddance, what a jerk. Such a sad familiar tale.

Indeed it is. He actually said to me I don't want to be married to a cripple 😐Nice. This after a 20 year marriage living in my house which thankfully the court let me keep as I owned it outright before we met.
I have a friend now RIP who was literally on her deathbed when her husband walked out to start an affair with a family friend.

martha79 · 13/04/2026 15:22

That's an incredible bear @bedfrog 🐻

@Gettingbysomehow I'm sorry you had to go through that, although sadly also not surprised. Glad you have supportive employers.

I'm being frustrated by not being able to walk as far as I would have on a sunny day off. Missing wandering in the woods and smelling all the wild garlic! But I've had two ten-minute loops round the neighbourhood and lunch in the garden watching an assortment of butterflies 🙂

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/04/2026 16:54

@bedfrog he is gorgeous 💕. Never been to Ikea.
A mobility scooter is a lot more fun than a wheelchair. I have a small memory foam cushion on mine which makes the seat more comfortable & prevents the ache in the buttocks. If it's just for going round shops you can get the little ones which are quite nippy.

And I've discovered you don't get the same treatment on a scooter as a wheelchair as people seem to assume you just have trouble walking. When I've used a wheelchair people have talked to dh & ignored me, totally blanked us, or spoken to me like a young child assuming cognitive issues. The woman's face was a picture when I said it's my legs that don't work not my brain. 🙄

Swanhilde · 13/04/2026 16:58

Home from work and in bed with a cuppa and slice of DD's cake 😋

Work was okay, but my sleep was awful last night due to 🍷and socialising. DD has returned to uni today so I'm going to have a quiet evening, eating leftovers for tea followed by an early night 🥱

Take it easy all 💕

FuzzyPuffling · 13/04/2026 18:25

I'm really struggling at the moment with extreme fatigue. I do a small thing in the morning ( today was a 5 min walk to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription) then its the sofa and a nap all afternoon. I'm so frustrated and fed up. DH asked if I fancied going to a live music event soon- 5 hrs long. I can't even consider it 😪
