Would you holiday in Cyprus at the moment?

Due to fly for a week at the end of this month. I know the gov advisory is saying precaution and flights are still running to and from the UK as normal but I can't help feeling a bit nervous about it. Just wondered what people's thoughts are about it..

OP posts:
ginasevern · 12/03/2026 17:03

Yes if I'd already booked it, as you have OP, and likely to lose all my money.

Gardenservant · 12/03/2026 17:09

Definitely not. Cyprus is a prime target because of our bases there. No one knows how long this will go on. least of all Trump. We have abandoned plans for a trip to Italy because it is in range of Iran's missiles. Maybe over cautious but there are other destinations and we hadn't yet booked. Apart from actual danger there is a good chance of travel disruptions.

Adelle79360 · 12/03/2026 17:16

No I wouldn’t be booking anything there at the moment. I have an irrational fear of the plane I’m travelling in being struck by a missile.

But given you’ve already booked and would lose 90% of the cost if you cancel, I think I’d wait it out and see how things are in a couple of weeks. If you don’t end up going and you lose the additional 10% it is what it is.

Foxytights · 12/03/2026 17:46

No.

HoppityBun · 12/03/2026 17:48

No

don’t let the holiday/money go to waste! Cyprus is not unsafe!

Megsdaughter · 12/03/2026 18:04

We are due to go to Limmasol in September andcare frantically hoping it will all be over by then.

We are meeting up with RAF friends who are stationed at Akrotiri as well.

RedRiverShore6 · 12/03/2026 06:48

I wouldn't book one but I would go in your situation, maybe if it was just the deposit I lost I wouldn't go.

So your assessment of going is mostly based on the amount of money lost and not safety?

Geobaby · 12/03/2026 18:16

emziecy · 12/03/2026 16:43

I totally agree. I live here too, in Pegeia. I'm not concerned and also feel safer here than the UK. To read the UK news you'd think we were constantly under attack with missiles hitting left right and centre, which isn't true.

I'm Pegeia too! Near the church.

tutugogo · 12/03/2026 18:18

Yes I would, not on the airbase but it’s fine. If government advice changed that’s different

Dontknowwhyidoit · 12/03/2026 18:21

My mum has just come back from Larnaca and is due to return at the end of April. She said it was fine and has no fears about being there. No one was panicking and they didn't know about the drone strike for a couple of days after.

oldwhyno · 12/03/2026 18:22

I wouldn't let the situation in the middle east stop me if I'd booked it, but might depend who else I was travelling with.

don't think I'd have booked it in the first place. Isn't pretty poor weather and quiet and boring March?

TreesAtSea · 12/03/2026 18:27

Yes, I'd go.

LoudTealHare · 12/03/2026 18:32

SammyScrounge · 12/03/2026 05:10

No. The events in the middle east are out of control and air strikes seem random and unpredictable. I'd play safe and stay away.

OP will loose her money! As long as the FO say it’s safe to travel, travel agents are not refunding bookings! I’m going to Turkey is September and have absolutely no plans to cancel unless the FO advice changes!

21-23 degrees is considerably warmer than the UK and there is plenty to do in low season!

user2848502016 · 12/03/2026 18:39

If I had it booked and was going to lose all my money yes I’d just go. But I wouldn’t book a holiday in Cyprus or Turkey

Iwantsandybeachesandgoodfood · 12/03/2026 18:43

I would.

Ffs! It was one strike right at the beginning doesn’t make it unsafe! And as for cancelling Italy is ridiculous! The UK has far more chance of being attacked than Italy! Life is for living and I’m off to Turkey in September unless the foreign office advice changes!

I don’t think anyone here thinks you are under constant attack and whilst it’s safe now, i.m not so sure you should feel safer there than here. Sadly.

iamtryingtobecivil · 12/03/2026 19:05

If the island is so safe why does it need warships to defend it?

Why did Turkey send two F16s?

Do the islands bases and associated military resources make it a target?

All the poster saying they the OP will lose money…I’d happily lose 5k to:-

Keep DH and DC safe
Avoid getting stuck
Minimise kids developing a fear due to an event

I’d rather lose the money personally than the above

Would you really relax, fair enough if you can switch off and not check news

Ohh, which church? Big one in the village, little white one or newish one at the top of cardiac hill? 🤣 x

The base was a target, the rest of Cyprus is not. There are extra precautions now in place.

If we knew all the intelligence surrounding international conflict we’d never go anywhere.

Cyprus is safe.

Disscombobulated · 12/03/2026 19:12

I too live in Pegia, I’m flying back tomorrow. I have no concerns.

Fair enough, just my opinion 😊
