What would you want me to buy your toddler for Easter?

So I’ve got an outfit already and would like something else to go with it. He is 16-17 months now. Very close friends little boy.

I know I could do chocolate with it but he will likely get enough of this and I’d like something a little different but perhaps still Easter themed.

any ideas? I’m not a parent so would love to know what you’d actually like to get?

It's not a shitty attitude. It's just challenging your assumption that everyone think Easter presents are a thing and would be delighted to get one.

Now youve clarified you are certain your friend is on board with the idea that's different. But the collective we goes both ways. For many of us it's absolutely not a given that Easter presents are usual or wanted.

It wasn't just what you said, it's the face you pulled. Buying kids something for Easter is hardly a novel concept and who gets offended that their mate has brought something considerate for their child?

Morepositivemum · 11/03/2026 18:45

A teddy suitable for his age

AIBUfamilydrama · 11/03/2026 18:46

I’d be happy if you bought chocolate, I would probably share it with DD though 🤣 or some kind of Easter themed sticker book or book, or just a general book or stickers!

It's novel to me. And other posters on this fairly short thread.

Annoyed is not the same as offended. And I wouldn't be particularly annoyed, just a bit that someone was trying to make Easter presents a thing for me that they aren't.

Anyway, as OP is certain her friend is into the idea in principle it's now irrelevant. But wasn't at the time of posting.

An Easter book.

Sheesh are Easter hauls a thing now? That’s rather grim! I definitely don’t plan to gift a haul either, just a token gift or two. I am not in the over consumption camp or the no gift camp so I guess I am a fence sitter somewhere in the middle 😊

Fraid so.
Also see Easter baskets.
Not just a few eggs and a book or something it's like bikes scooters for the sake of just because it's Easter.

aperollingintotheweekend · 11/03/2026 19:02

Ah. Perhaps that’s why my post has touched a nerve with some people than. I had no idea!

Was going to say to my hide and squek eggs, but someone beat me to it! My little one loves them and they are still used in toy kitchen several years later

Just here to say that new clothes at Easter is an old tradition, not something new fangled. New clothes for children are often tied to significant dates.

Whilst we're at it, Easter trees with new buds are legit too.

So stick to the outfit.

Magnifying glass

Mumsnet is always so funny about anyone decorating for a season or buying a present unless it’s an acceptable reason 😆

I enjoy treating someone, especially a tiny child, so I think an Easter gift is very kind (and definitely doesn’t need to be plastic tat).

For my DGCs I’ll pop a little bundle of Easter crafty bits and maybe a sticker book for DGD who is 2. DGS who’s still a baby, I’ve picked up something to wear in the sale.

Sometimes it’s nice to have an excuse to treat someone, especially a little one ☺️

The reason they don't like making everything a reason to do things like that is because if the expectations of spending even more money, when it just isn't necessary.

It's all too much

NotMeekNotObedient · 11/03/2026 20:21

Easter themed book... Mr grumpy meets the Easter Bunny etc.

DS got these 'hide & squeak eggs' for their first easter, and they were well played with, though I wouldn't actually expect a friend to give my DC anything.

My kids loved these they’re a great gift 🎁

I mean literally everything is unnecessary so I’m not sure what your point is.

Easter is not new, gifts, clothes, celebrating is not new.
Easter is more important for many Christians than Easter and certainly growing up RC in the 90s we always got gifts.

I don’t base all my actions around whether something is absolutely necessary or not.

skkyelark · 11/03/2026 20:27

DD2 got spring-themed books her first Easter, so she wasn't 'left out' of the hunt (big sister kindly found them for her).

TheFairyCaravan · 11/03/2026 20:39

I’ve bought DGS (2) an Easter present, I did last year and the year before as did his other grandparents. I’ve, bought him a very small Easter egg and a little Lindt bunny because I know they’re doing an Easter egg hunt, but his parents will probably eat the majority of that.

DGS’s birthday is Boxing Day so he gets everything at once. DS1 & DS2 are both born in December too, (DS2 is Christmas Eve) so we always bought them something at Easter.

Me too! My 5 year old DD won't let me get rid of them!

SandyHappy · 11/03/2026 20:47

Someone bought my DD a 'we're going on an egg hunt' book when she was around that age, which has lift up parts, it is a take on the 'going on a bear hunt' book, she still loves it now and we read it all year round.

Wintercrocodile · 11/03/2026 20:52

I’m sending my friends little boy a book, but if you want something spring themed maybe some sunflower seeds and a little pot?

When we grew up, nobody gave presents at Easter round our way..now they do because it's another thing shops and social media have convinced us it's another reason to spend money...

An easter themed sticker book. Mine would have liked it better than chocolate.

I’m really intrigued by these now. They seem to be a divisive topic!

she actually seems unfazed by certain things that I think most people would be a strong no for (for example I joked about a drum kit and she was genuinely like, it wouldn’t bother me!).. I think that one would definitely bother me ha ha

😂

In the interest of being fair, my 12 month old absolutely loves those fucking bastard eggs but good luck ever having the full set together in the box 😂
