What would you want me to buy your toddler for Easter?

So I’ve got an outfit already and would like something else to go with it. He is 16-17 months now. Very close friends little boy.

I know I could do chocolate with it but he will likely get enough of this and I’d like something a little different but perhaps still Easter themed.

any ideas? I’m not a parent so would love to know what you’d actually like to get?

I’d be happy with an Easter Egg - not least as I would probably eat it myself!

Some sensory egg shakers are a nice Easter gift for a child this age.

Or a wind up rabbit / chick that hops along. Sell them in the supermarkets.

Id not be giving my 16 month old chocolate, albeit would enjoy receiving it so I could eat it myself.

I love those windup rabbit things. We still have a couple on our mantlepiece and my Dcs are 16 and 14 now.

I also have a little windup ghost for Halloween. Too cute.

Surely the only answer here is “nothing”? I’m not even buying my own kids “Easter presents”. They’ll get chocolate as will we!

Colouring books, crayons and stickers are a bit much for 16 months old. They don't usually have the coordination.

The Tomy Hide and Squeak eggs , a stuffed toy bunny or chick, or a nice board book are good gifts at that age.

I have always grown up with Easter being a big deal. We always got new clothes, a basket, a toy and eggs. Family members would always give us eggs or a small toy as children, often uncles with no kids or grandparents gave money.
Now my friends give my kids eggs and maybe a small gift instead when they’re a bit young for too much chocolate.

Experiences aren’t universal, there’s more than one ‘normal’.

In which case OP should ask her friend who may well be of the "yes please, Easter presents are definitely a thing" variety but just as likely to be "Easter presents? Never heard of such a thing. No thanks"

YellowStockings · 11/03/2026 15:56

A lovely book!

Thesnailonthewhale · 11/03/2026 15:59

Nothing. Easter isn't a gift giving occasion.

I’m sure she knows her friend, she’s not asking if she should she’s asking for ideas.

Straightomyhead · 11/03/2026 16:09

I have a two year old and last year we got a couple of books from grandparents and my brother/SIL. although my brothers kids are late teens so I think they were enjoying the cuteness again.

I wouldn’t object to a small amount of chocolate. Just nothing too big.

Boomer55 · 11/03/2026 16:22

Nothing, other than perhaps a small egg. When did we start buying Easter presents?🙄

Sofado · 11/03/2026 17:35

Nothing. An eggcup if you really want.

EmilyintheUK · 11/03/2026 17:55

I used to buy my nieces and nephews a book instead of an egg.

Peonies12 · 11/03/2026 12:48

Nothing? I've never heard of buying Easter presents apart from chocolate eggs which I wouldn't want for my toddler. I wouldn't want an outfit they'd wear for 1 day then I have to store or sell.

Oh it’s not an Easter outfit it’s more general so will get plenty of wear.

An Easter egg. I wouldn't expect toys or clothes or anything else. If you wanted to buy them something for Easter I genuinely would expect it to be an Easter egg and if you didn't want to do that I wouldnt expect you to get anything at all.

I will do this when he is a bit bigger, but he’s a bit young for chocolate overload and I’m sure will still be getting a few as it is. So I’d like to do something different for him.

Nothing. Easter isn't a present giving occassion and I'd find it a bit imposing if you decided it was.

That’s not a concern here, I know she won’t think that. We are very close

A book or a small toy for the garden if they have a garden.

Well I know she will be delighted I don’t get why some people are being so miserable about this?

yes I could just ask her what to get, but she gets just as excited as he does so I wanted some ideas from others so she wouldn’t know what it was either

sorry for trying to spread a bit of joy!

Why does this have to be some kind of collective “we”. Honestly of all the threads to have a shitty attitude, I don’t understand why it would be this one. This site genuinely baffles me sometimes.

Nobody has to anything, I want to do it. It’s an Easter gift, not a brand new car.

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions and replies you’ve given me some great ideas. I didn’t want to do chocolate as I know she won’t want him having a ton. Doesn’t mean I won’t in future when he is older, hence my reason for making the thread.

It's not a shitty attitude. It's just challenging your assumption that everyone think Easter presents are a thing and would be delighted to get one.

Now youve clarified you are certain your friend is on board with the idea that's different. But the collective we goes both ways. For many of us it's absolutely not a given that Easter presents are usual or wanted.

No assumption on my part about “everyone”. I never said anything was universal here.

as per many comments above with great suggestions, I’m not the only person who enjoys doing this. My question also wasn’t “should I get something”, it was more to ascertain some age appropriate ideas as well as stuff that wouldn’t just add to “more tat” which I obviously wouldn’t want to do.

i just want to make it memorable for him now he is old enough to enjoy it a bit, and I want to be involved as well as a good friend. That’s all my goal is here. Not to enforce anything on anyone else.

Lots have people have said nothing" as well. Glad you've got ideas you're happy with. And nobody is accusing you of enforcing anything on anyone. Just pointing out not everyone wants it. Your OP was written from an assumption that everyone would want something. Or at least came across that way.

But as you've since clarified you are certain your friend is in the "Easter gifts, yay!" camp that's covered. Enjoy!

I will be getting my daughter a small gift from Smyths and possibly a few new books things I would buy her anyway she doesn't need more chocolate than she will be given anyway there certainly won't be any of those hauls that are seen on Facebook.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/03/2026 18:41

Easter book
That's not my chick / lamb
We're all going on an easter egg hunt
Or similar

Sheesh are Easter hauls a thing now? That’s rather grim! I definitely don’t plan to gift a haul either, just a token gift or two. I am not in the over consumption camp or the no gift camp so I guess I am a fence sitter somewhere in the middle 😊
