Just wondering with all the unrest

No I wouldn’t want to book anywhere beyond Europe for now

SleekWhisky · 03/03/2026 17:13

Of course I would!! Get it booked before prices rise

Ghlp · 03/03/2026 17:21

Have you been before? Do you have people you know there? I would book most likely. Im bookrd to Mexico! In June the show must go on...

MondayYogurt · 03/03/2026 17:26

Yes, using a direct airline.

whymadam · 03/03/2026 17:29

Absolutely go, yes!

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 03/03/2026 17:30

Yes with a direct airline.

Tickingcrocodile · 03/03/2026 17:34

South Africa is about twice as far away from Iran as the UK and direct flights there pass nowhere near the Middle East so as PP said, provided you are flying direct it's not a destination that should be affected. Flight prices may go up with oil prices though.

GreenVelvetGown · 03/03/2026 17:38

I wouldn’t book anywhere outside the UK just now, there’s too much risk to international airspace.

Yes with a direct airline.

Do flights to South Africa usually go via the Middle East? If so, that's probably worth avoiding.

That’s a bit OTT.

LentilBurt · 03/03/2026 17:55

I mean I wouldn’t be going on holiday to South Africa. The crime is awful.

This is just silly now.

Mirrorxxx · 03/03/2026 18:06

Yes. Why would South Africa be an issue. Probably one of the safest places to be in a war

GreenVelvetGown · 03/03/2026 18:56

I’m not stopping anyone else from booking holidays.

minipie · 03/03/2026 18:57

ermm have people looked at a map??

Yes I would OP.

That’s a bit OTT.

That’s exactly what people said when I decided not to book a holiday in the US after Trump was elected.

MotherofPearl · 03/03/2026 19:00

Lots of flights between the UK and SA go via Dubai or Doha so obviously that’s something to avoid. Either fly direct or via one of the European hubs like Frankfurt or Amsterdam.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/03/2026 19:05

It is a spectacular country. My DS lives in a town renowned for crime bit the safer parts feel safe albeit with security measures in place. It is absolutely worth visiting. We are going late summer.

Well, obviously.

Boopear · 03/03/2026 19:56

I'm going next month. BA & Virgin do direct flights. Mainly fly over west coast of Africa but may have to do a little detour at the top. Not worried at all (but v glad didn't book Emirates!). Have a great time - it's a beautiful country.

Such ignorance.

mindutopia · 03/03/2026 20:12

I used to work in South Africa and honestly, it isn’t somewhere I’d voluntarily choose to holiday, but I wouldn’t feel at all uncomfortable because of events in the ME.

No, not from Europe.

Historically/currently most of the european outfits (e.g. BA, Lufthansa, KLM, there are more) heading for places like Johannesburg route non-stop, pretty much north south roughly up the centre of the continent...the Cape Town flights tends to route slightly more up the western side of the continent

I know via the Gulf with a connection has seemingly become fashionable and it can be cheap but it's a relatively recent development and as we now know might be problematic.
