Weekend in Glasgow - any recommendations?

Myself and DH have a weekend planned in Glasgow in Mid March - no kids <thanks grandparents!>

Any recommendations for things to do and places to eat?

We love art, history and nature, not very interested in visiting distilleries or anything sporty. We would like a cafe for quick lunch on Saturday, posh(ish!) meal out restaurant for Saturday night and then somewhere for a relaxed Sunday lunch before we drive home…

Any suggestions of great places to go and things to do?

I really enjoyed the tour of the Willow Tea room on the street that I can’t spell but begins with S. (Make sure it’s the correct willow cafe. As there are two. The makintosh house at the university is good as well. As is the kelvingrove museum. I really enjoyed Glasgow and much preferred it to Edinburgh.

I went a few years ago now, but I'd happily go back again to The Buttery on Argyle Street.

I came on to say the Buttery for the posh meal, very Scottish, quaint little silver trinkets on the tables, and delicious food and drink. Agree with pp that Gandalfi or singl end are lovely lunch options. Actually on the sun if you went to the garnethill singl end (there are two), you’d be close to the tenament museum, where you wouldn’t spend loads of time but it’s a ln interesting preserved tenament home.

A gig or theatre? The Stand, for comedy? Plenty to choose from there. The open top buses are actually pretty good. Many parks and museums to choose from.

I thought Cail Bruich closed down? I think the guys moved on. Possibly to Ten Eighty Two I. Finnieston but I am not totally sure!

It definitely didn't close. Still going strong with a Michelin star.

@HushTheNoise I much preferred Glasgow to Edinburgh. I’ve been once and never need to go again. But I’ve only scratched the surface of Glasgow.

Glasgow is a far cooler city than Edinburgh. (Albeit a bit dirty). Edinburgh is a bit like Scottish Disneyland for the Americans 😂

@Whatkindoffuckeryisthiss that was The Gannet!

I loved Crabshakk, 1114 Argyle Street when we visited Glasgow. Amazing tapas style fish dishes. Tiny place though, you need to book ahead.

I went for the first time recently. GoMA is worth a visit.

Ah okay. I knew I’d heard something about it. I knew the Gannet had closed. You’d think I’d have made the connection!

There’s a couple of Crabbshakks. The one off Byres Road is much bigger. Amazing seafood, scallops in anchovy butter- one of the favourite things I have ever eaten!

@Mammutwe had those too, Absolutely delicious.

Second the Ubiquitous Chip, the food is amazing.

My son lives in Glasgow and we had a brilliant time there.

The Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre is awesome - just takes an hour really worth it.

If you like Coffee - Ottoman Coffee House is brilliant for coffee and breakfast.

Kelvin Grove, the Museum (go at 1pm for the daily Organ Recital) are brilliant, as is the University.

We had awesome Thai massages here (you have to book in advance).

The Absent Ear in Merchant City is amazing for cocktails - I highly recommend it. Full password at the door, speak easy vibe.

Definitely Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Must see Dali’s Christ of St John of the Cross. Spectacular painting. Beautiful building inside and out. Nice part of town with Botanic Gardens and the university close by. Haven’t been for years, but the Hunterian Museum at the University was great too.

Enjoy.
