Hi, I’ve been reading your conversation about grey hair blending or transition with curiosity and I’m really interested in hearing your voice about grey hair. As a hairdresser who wants to support other women in being themselves with their hair, id love to open up the conversations and answer any questions you may have.

Hello Ksilk! I’m trying to transition now, i would say half way now. Do you personally think it makes people look older and be honest!

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/03/2026 11:46

Which conversation was that?

OneNimbleAnt · 02/03/2026 11:48

Hi! I grew my hair out when I was pregnant at 34 and really regret leaving it so long. My hair was dyed a dark brown and the regrowth was white; all my photos with my new baby have me with half white, half black/ brown hair. I wish someone had told me that the dye job was too dark and given me something a bit more natural/ blended with my actual hair colour. I have totally natural colour now which is silver and I get so many compliments.

What does this really mean though?

Do you just mean you want to help them go grey?

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/03/2026 11:57

I think you should be paying Mumsnet to do a sponsored thread, @Ksilk.

Cakefolk · 02/03/2026 11:58

@EmpressaurusKittyWhat do you mean by this?

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 02/03/2026 12:01

It means you have to pay to advertise on here

Well, if the OP is genuinely just here to chat without promoting herself that’s one thing, but she’s saying she’s here off the back of ‘a conversation’ to ‘support other women in being themselves with their hair’ which sounds pretty vague. And anyway, who else would you be with your hair if not yourself?

My guess is that either she’s going to share a link to her website or blog at some point or that she wants to use this thread for blog material.

Of course @Ksilk is welcome to tell me I’m wrong.

Cakefolk · 02/03/2026 12:05

Ok but what is she advertising?

Cakefolk · 02/03/2026 12:09

@EmpressaurusKittythanks for explaining, I think this has gone too deep already for me! Me and my hair will carry on as we were!

My hair’s been going grey naturally for years & is quite happy as it is!

I swim a lot so I think I’ll just have to accept Im going grey (I’m brunette but doesn’t seem right to dye my hair then swim in my local pool!)

I have dreadful thin ugly flat straight brown hair and no idea how to cope with the grey bits. I’d like to love my hair - maybe I’ll ask ChatGPT to age me!

I dye my hair and swim regularly.

I’m here out of curiosity to hear women’s experiences and thoughts. I’m not looking to sell or promote or advertise.

I would say No, I think you can choose to enhance the grey, soften it or grow it out and see how you feel personally.

You could start using a Demi permanent colour a shade or two lighter then the permanent. That will make any grow out softer

I’m not advertising anything. I’m just curious about how we experience going grey
i personally lost my hair 13 years ago and now choose to have fun with wigs

pinksavannah · 03/03/2026 11:56

My hairs naturally very dark, almost black and my grey is very salt and pepper

every time I’ve tried growing it out I stop after a few inches as the mix of black and grey just looks odd , can you recommend anything?

mumlong · 03/03/2026 11:56

Grey hair isn’t something that needs fixing.
It’s just another stage and it can look beautiful.
Help women feel confident first, then decide what to do with the colour.

It means if you’re going grey from an all over colour. Or just going grey. I’m here to answer any questions.

OK great, thanks for clarifying!

I think long grey hair looks fantastic so happily letting mine take its course.

Just thinking about lockdown when lots of women I know decided to go grey, but they just did it.

What sort of questions are you anticipating?
