Hi, I’ve been reading your conversation about grey hair blending or transition with curiosity and I’m really interested in hearing your voice about grey hair. As a hairdresser who wants to support other women in being themselves with their hair, id love to open up the conversations and answer any questions you may have.

My hairs naturally very dark, almost black and my grey is very salt and pepper

every time I’ve tried growing it out I stop after a few inches as the mix of black and grey just looks odd , can you recommend anything?

Yeah that’s super hard. I would ask your hairdresser to break up the regrowth with lowlights. If you can bare let the regrowth grow to 3inches first. Or you could use a Demi permanent colour on your roots, a shade lighter. I can’t recommend a brand but you could ask your hairdresser. I hope that helps

I have a very white halo, and partly grey/dark brown at back so have hightlights on back to balance out, I use a silver shampoo/conditioner on my hair which helps with colour, and a mask once a week. Both L’Oréal professional. But hair is still frizzy and dry and thinning at front.

  1. what is the best colour to minimise a thinning hair line visually
  2. what types of products, or care is best for dry straw texture
  3. do you recommend any budget friendly online grey wig companies as I getting close to considering now and I wouldn’t go back to dark brown now, and blonde would feel odd

Hi, so 1: I’m not totally sure what you mean? Can you clarify please
2: products I recommend are always professional products, they are designed to repair and add moisture. Ask you hairdressers for their recommendations
3: I can’t recommend budget friendly wigs, I wear Jon reneau and they are about £200+
hair toppers are great though and easy

I’ve got auburn hair but I’ve got an ever increasing amount of white hairs in the front.
At the moment I use a rose gold coloured temporary hair colour just on the white hair and I really like the result. I use a spoolie brush to apply it.
Could I do similar with a semi permanent box dye at home so I don’t have to re apply after each wash? As in just apply the dye to the white streaks? I’ve never used hair dye before.

I’d go to hairdresser and ask for a lovely soft face frame. It would blend in with a lighter strands at the front instead of totally covering. Making it look soft and intentional

I would but I literally can’t afford the hairdresser. I cut my own hair.

I really don't see the point of this thread.

Every answer so far has been 'ask your hairdresser'.

I think even Google would be more helpful for anyone wanting to go grey.

janietreemore · 03/03/2026 17:08

Hi @Ksilk , do you find that greys add body, or the opposite? My hair is too fine and soft to keep a style and I am hoping that grey hairs will be coarser and springier. I used to have highlights which helped but I've developed allergies to bleach and colour so on my own now. Thanks.

I have given each person advice. Is there something you specifically would like to ask me?

Oh ok thanks.

Just thinking about lockdown when lots of women I know decided to go grey, but they just did it.

What sort of questions are you anticipating?

Ofcourse if you feel you are not benefiting from the thread, you could choose to unfollow it. Or ask me a specific question ?

I lost my hair after chemo, how long should I wait before dyeing virgin hair blonde?

shoppingred54 · 04/03/2026 18:41

I have fine, straight hair that I’ve let grey because I found dyeing it too harsh and I couldn’t afford to get it coloured professionally. What can I use to keep it in great condition. It’s going a bit fuzzy and wirey. What products would you recommend?

I lost mine too, typically it’s 3 months growth.
you need healthy strong hair.
