And a £2m watch in a pub in Central London?! I’m sure someone will come on here and tell me I’m victim blaming but wtf was she thinking?

That was asking for trouble. Of course, there is the basic thing of damaging the egg as they are delicate arent they? When the man nicked the bag he must have thought it was Christmas! good job to anyone who nicks mine, it is full of dog pooh bags empty new of course, a hairy hair brush, two or three Drs appointments out of date cards but no money certainly no gold jewellery or eggs!

I would have thought big burly security guard taking egg, whiskey and watch from heavily fortified suitcase is part of the buying experience. Not it being pulled out of a handbag with some tatty tissues hanging off it

Yep, I want the suitcase opened with a gold glow like in Pulp Fiction.

Does anyone read the articles before commenting?

The victim is director of luxury brands at a whisky company. "The Craft Irish Whiskey Company collaborated with Fabergé in 2021 to create a seven-piece whiskey collection, which included a 30-year-old bottle of Irish whiskey, a bespoke Fabergé Celtic egg and an 18-carat rose gold watch".

She had a promotional item from her work in her work bag with her laptop. She wasn't carrying around family heirlooms.

Most of the comments have been about it being a ‘work’ egg so yes

I think it's more about the stupidity of leaving it unattended considering how valuable it was. Similar to civil servants who leave work laptops on a train or in an unlocked car. The lack of brain cells begs the question on how they manage to survive without starving to death.

Yes, everyone read the article. However, the article doesn’t explain why she put it in her bag, went to the pub, and put her bag down.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 26/02/2026 14:32

I have a friend who is a museum curator and she once had to fly to Moscow to fly back with a Faberge egg in the seat next to her on the plane for an exhibition. She definitely didn't take that one to the pub!

Newmeagain · 26/02/2026 14:33

This is a very strange story. This was not her personal property and therefore there should have been some protocol that governed security. Or at least common sense!

In a few limited instances where I have had to withdraw a larger than usual sum of cash from the bank I have always been really paranoid about going straight hime with it, etc.

Yes, lets all blame her for taking her handbag into a pub, and not the low-life scum who stole it.

It doesn't matter what was in the bag. Women should not be made to feel responsible for having crimes committed against them.

She's a dumb dumb for taking it out.

I tell my kids not to take special toys out on day trips.

Even highly intelligent people have "whoops" moments - it can happen to anyone, even you...

Why you would take it to the pub is beyond me, and not have the tightest grip on your handbag for the whole visit. Imagine how she felt when she realised her bag was stolen! Sickening.

Imagine what the thief must have thought when they realized they'd stolen a priceless work of art and not just a phone and a wallet!

That’s what bras are for!

Would you not need two eggs for that or are we just Total Recall-ing it now?

Yes, I actually lost the small cross bodybag with my passport in it at an airport last week! For the entire holiday the bag had been practically surgically attached to me, and then for some unknown reason I took it off when I sat down for coffee and then walked off without it.

Thankfully, I realised quite quickly, went back and it was still there, but it gave me quite a moment.

I'm usually very sensible about these things, hence the bag style.

GarlicBound · 26/02/2026 14:44

For non link-clickers and anyone looking out for a bargain round the back of the pub, here are the main characters of the story. Not Adam Brennan; I don't know who he is but Rosie seems to be showing him something of immense value at the bar.

Well, it's not a priceless work of art, more a high-end luxury collector's item that comes in a gift set with two bottles of whiskey, a humidor and cigars, a watch, a hipflask etc etc. I mean, it wasn't smuggled out of Russia during the Revolution in some Grand Duchess's corset or anything. Grin

Shutuptrevor · 26/02/2026 14:48

It’s like a Happy Meal for billionaires. Buy a bottle of whiskey and get a free faberge egg.

Oh, how the other half lives.

GarlicBound · 26/02/2026 14:48

To be fair, this has generated a good 2m worth of publicity in a single day.

Sorry, that does not stand scrutiny for a moment.

She was a senior executive of a company who, it seems, was given the job of transporting a valuable piece of her employer's property and she goes to the pub with it!

Most employers would call that gross misconduct warranting summary dismissal.

She's getting the blame because she deserves it.

It's possible, indeed probable, that she was in the pub doing business that involved the egg.

Good point on the insurance

That was my first thought - insurance fraud. I would put money on it being safely tucked away somewhere.

But would insurance cover it in this instance as one could argue she was negligent

I would also blame a man if he had these items in his bag/backpack
