Ok. So I’m been looking at trying some collagen powder as it’s everywhere at the moment but which is best? Both of these two are all over my social media so if anyone has actual good or bad reviews please let me know. Thanks

Sorry I meant that helps hair and skin!

FaintingGoats · 28/02/2026 09:27

I’ve been taking NG since new year. Can’t taste it in black coffee and adds some protein. I think my rosacea is improving but can’t be sure if that’s down to the collagen or healthier diet 🤷🏻‍♀️

Weareoutofwine · 28/02/2026 09:44

I started taking collagen at the beginning of November and I have started to notice some positive changes.

My skin seems softer more elastic. My hair growth has increased (syrprisingly so) and some low level joint pain I had been experiencing has stopped. I took sometime to review any peer reviewed/trials to look at whether it was worth bothering with. Following this review of best available evidence I settled on where results where postiive results were demonstrated:

Hydrolysed bovine collagen peptides - 10g once daily
Vit C 500mg.

Hydrolysed collagen peptides have been shown in clinical trials to improve skin elasticity and reduce joint pain at doses of 5–10 g daily, with joint studies commonly using 10 g per day for 12–24 weeks. Collagen works by supplying specific peptides that stimulate your body’s own collagen production rather than simply acting as extra protein. Vitamin C (200–500 mg daily) is necessary for proper collagen synthesis and stabilisation, and your intake of 500 mg fully supports this process.

I have also recently introduced Vit D, Omega 3, a little zinc and magnesium.

Should have included - I have been using Vitabroght Collagen - in my morning tea. Very little flavour - so perfectly pleasant.

IceOnTheLake · 28/02/2026 09:48

The clinical evidence for collagen powder is really weak. Save your money.

HorrorPudding · 28/02/2026 09:50

What’s the point in paying for often very expensive Collagen? It doesn't make it into your blood stream or become collagen in your body. It's broken down into amino acids which are converted into proteins used in exactly the same way as any other proteins your in body surely?

The perceived benefits are either down to the successful and aggressive marketing of Collagen targeting women’s concerns about ageing or are down to other ingredients in the collagen supplements which can be found in a £3 multivitamin/ mineral supplement from the supermarket. I notice the Advertising Standards Authority are increasingly having to tackle Collagen sellers for making wild claims.

Weareoutofwine · 28/02/2026 10:22

@HorrorPudding I agree that the marketing is aggressive and often it is other supplements that are having a positive impact on the body/well being of women.

I don't, however, agree with some posters stating there is no proven evidence. That's not true. Yes there are some trials, most often funded by industry which therefore can influence outcomes, which are dubious. There are however other longer term studies that have shown positive effects on skin and joints versus placebos - under strict conditions.

Saying collagen “has no proven evidence” just isn’t accurate. There are multiple randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials showing that 5–10 g of hydrolysed (that's imoortant) collagen daily improves skin elasticity, hydration and wrinkle depth after 8–12 weeks, and 10 g daily has reduced joint pain and stiffness in several clinical studies. Usually couple with Vit C. Meta-analyses pooling these trials also report statistically significant benefits compared with placebo. The effects are def not dramatic or instant, but the evidence shows modest, measurable improvements — so it’s not true that it “does nothing.”

So I think if you take the amount demo'd in trials and couple it with a balanced healthy lifestyle you will likely see some modest results. But it is not a miracle cure for ageing or pain.

I use Elavate chocolate, I either make a mocha at work with it or have a hot Chocolate at home. I've had compliments recently re my skin, although gave up smoking last year so that could also be it! My joints feel better, I've had a sore hip for years and it seems to be improving.

I haven't tried any others but this seems to be working for me

CharityShopMensGlasses · 28/02/2026 11:22

I use NGeeks, and I can see a difference in my face, I think potentially its the hydration? But my forehead is smoother and skin is more youthful/bouncy looking. Also my persistent heel pain is gone which is a bug bonus.

I took biotin for years before and it didnt make the difference for me. I also tried marine collagen before and that made no difference to me. I think it is the hydrolysed bovine that Ill stick with.

The lions mane from their is an absolute godsend for my brain. Although the ashwaganda gave me sleepless nights and palpitations. Its finding i think what works for you.

I do get annoyed with some of the adverts which blatantly the influencers do when their botox is running out and after the next set has kicked in..collagen doesn't freeze your muscles.

What do you find lions mane does for you?

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 28/02/2026 16:56

I've been using Nutrition Geeks for about 6 months. I've always had pretty good skin (good genes) so not noticed much there. My hair, which had thinned quite dramatically, has improved so much that my hairdresser (who i hadn't seen since just before I started taking it) was shocked and couldn't believe how much better it was. She even called her colleagues over to look!

My male colleague, who also uses it, said he didn't use of for a couple of weeks and could really feel the difference in his joints, so started taking it again

I have ADHd and Ive tried lots of different 'focus' options, Lions mane clears my brain fog for about 8 hours. Its a godsend for me.

I have been using it for about 3 months and have noticed the same.

for me the ashwagnada does provide a lovely clarity from the anxiety that I previously only got from a lot of propananol.

like uou said it’s finding what works best for you.

snowone · 28/02/2026 19:31

I take Nutrition Geeks and have been for about 6 months. My biggest area of improvement has been in my clicky joints (particularly my knees) 🙂

Benchdogs · 26/02/2026 16:24

I can’t be doing with powders or subscriptions and I’d seriously avoid anything advertised on social media.

I’ve been very happy with Healthspan High Strength (1000mg) Marine Collagen tablets. Great quality and value for money. Also gorgeous packing, not that it matters.

Edited

Unless they're free, they're unfortunately not good value for money.

1000mg is a really low dose, low enough that there's probably not much point at all.

By comparison, Elavate is 8000mg...still actually pretty poor.

Nutrition Geeks is 14000mg.

My gp told me that all collagen supplements are useless.
All evidence and research is funded by them not the proper organisations. ( can't remember the name )

GPs really can't be better at assessing the evidence than fairly scientifically literate posters, and the recent review in Nature suggested it does have a positive benefit, looking across over 100 studies. I honestly think people are quite easily swayed by people debunking things which turn out not to be true, I believe the same about everyone chanting 'you don't get a cold if you get cold' when again, if you get chilled, have lowered immunity (as many women do as anaemic) you are more likely to get a cold, people are so busy saying 'collagen doesn't work' when in fact there is a little evidence that it does!

I wouldn't be paying out for powdered expensive collagen though and the Elavate one has huge amounts of biotin in and I'm not sure why (I have a theory that it is this that is causing hair growth/great nails rather than the collagen!)

FlyHighLikeABird · 01/03/2026 14:13

@Weareoutofwine thanks for the recommendation of brand, I've swapped about a bit and will try that, and as someone with joint problems, I've found it effective. I read about a collagen specialist in the field, non-industry funded, who swapped between bovine, marine and something else every few months, he said he thought it had a modest but not overstated effect.

igelkott2026 · 01/03/2026 14:36

I've been using Wild Collagen from Ancient & Brave. I don't know if it's working yet but it disappears into a glass of water and is very easy to take. I am taking it for my gut, rather than the external skin.

PearlsTeapot · 01/03/2026 18:19

I've bought the nutrition geeks and will try it in my coffee tomorrow and report back... as I'm on mounjaro just having the protein from it is worth it anyway.

Deathofprats · 02/03/2026 16:28

i really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to respond. It seems like some people have had benefit (joint wise at least) from the nutrition geeks one and it’s cheaper so that is going to be my chosen option. I’ll give it a three month trial and try to remember to report back.

PearlsTeapot · 04/03/2026 15:27

I've had 3 days drinking the Nutrition Geeks collagen in my coffee and wanted to report back. It changes the taste a bit but barely at all, by day 3 I'm already used to it. It seems like a very easy way to get protein and collagen in me so I'm sold on it!

@Deathofprats good luck with your trial.

WorstPaceScenario · 04/03/2026 15:33

I use Nutrition Geeks collagen primarily for my joints, and have noticed some improvement - plus it's another wee protein boost. It is, however, utterly rank and I can't bring myself to pollute my morning coffee with it (I know others find it tasteless, but I can 100% taste it!), so I have it in warm Ribena instead.

FlyHighLikeABird · 04/03/2026 18:11

I bought the Vitabright one (powder) off Amazon and it is honestly tasteless, I'm surprised. I don't know about the marine one, this is the bovine one, it doesn't even smell in the tub. I was bracing myself and it's fine, so thanks for the recommendation @Weareoutofwine

Julesk1980 · 31/03/2026 10:36

I have been using nutrition geeks for about 6 montgs after all the girls at lodge weekend were using it i really didnt realise how much it helped until i got ill and didnt use for about 3 weeks not just my skin i have fibro and didnt realise how much it had helped joint and muscles too so back on it everyday now i was tempted to try elevate to see the difference though as i see it everywhere
