Mine is amongst others that carbonara should only ever be made with long pasta, none of your penne, or fusili nonsense.

Mine - amongst others - is that mint and chocolate do not belong together, it is absolutely vile, and is has 100% the same effect as when we were kids, brushed our teeth and then snuck a cheeky bite of a chocolate in, still.

I lived in an area that felt I had arrived in the 1940s. No supermarkets or any shop that was open beyond 5.30pm and everyone closed for lunch

I was making mint chocolate chip ice cream from scratch one evening for a dinner party on the Saturday and realised I lacked the mint part.
Trying to think outside the box I decided mouth wash would be a perfectly acceptable replacement. So a splash of mouthwash to taste. Except I think I was too liberal with my splash

🤣

Chicken Korma is the most pointless dish ever invented.

Kids meal in my house, and the sauce over a Lamb Madras is the perfect curry for me :)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/02/2026 16:32

Totally agree @KindnessIsKey123

Brioche is awful
Your Aunts husband is Dave not uncle.

BBQ food is awful and very bad for you:

Pretty sure Bob’s your Uncle, not Dave 😉

NimbleHiker · 19/02/2026 16:33

Dunking biscuits in coffee is disgusting. Soggy biscuits are revolting.

Leggings are not trousers, and shouldn't be worn with anything shorter than hip length, whatever size you are.

Murasaki - Yes! and Double yes!!

Ooh, and he's prickly as well...

Ah, you are one of those who will not reflect on the topic itself but conclude arguments with personal jabs. How original. It's like playing chess with a pigeon. Yeah, I'm too old for that. Have a good day! Enjoy your healthy weight loss jabs that will have zero impact on your overall health.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 19/02/2026 16:36

I agree about the weight-loss jabs, I think the long term effects are yet to be discovered. I feel like this about vaping too and mobile phones for children. I also think there are too many dogs. Or maybe just too many entitled dog owners and I say this as someone who loves and has owned dogs.

This should be the law.
Extra penalties for flesh coloured leggings.

Don't let the door slam you on your way out.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 19/02/2026 16:37

Next to love, education is the most important element of a child's life. Parents that don't actively support their children in their education are negligent.

And severe penalties for those with the scrunchy bit round the bum-hole. Fucking awful.

TheIrritatingGentleman · 19/02/2026 16:38

ConstanzeMozart · 19/02/2026 15:31

Sorry but I don't understand.

It's not morally indefensible. Often shelter dogs need to be homed with a particular set up. IE no children, no other dogs, I've even heard of no men. Some breeds won't suit your family's lifestyle if say you're very active or not active at all. A puppy grows with the family and is used to it. Same for cats/kittens. I've seen cats needing re-homed but I couldn't take most because they don't like dogs or a busy household.

What happens to all the kittens and puppies who are born? Have they to go straight to a shelter or should we just stop family pets breeding altogether?

minnel · 19/02/2026 16:39

People who don't neuter and microchip their cats shouldn't be allowed to have them.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 19/02/2026 16:40

High cocoa content dark chocolate is a foul and bitter abomination. Like avocado, nobody actually likes the stuff, it’s just perceived as cool to keep up the pretence.

VictoriaEra · 19/02/2026 16:40

Poststandardisation · 19/02/2026 15:38

People should have at least a grade B/6 in gcse Lang before being allowed to post ANYTHING on sm. Typos and the odd spelling error, I can live with, but if feels like we're heading into a pre-standardised era.

This also applies to what used to be regarded as 'proper' publications and novels. Especially novels published on Amazon.
'Stuck a cord'
'Rolling in the isles'.
Fuck off. Or learn to google.

And it's not elitism. Most of my older gen family left school between 12 and 15. They were all able to write and spell English mainly accurately.

I love you.

"Sharing bags" are no such thing.

If the tiramisu box says "6 portions" it means for 6 teeny tiny people.

Yes! Six of those mumsnetters who are still full after their few leaves and two cherry tomatoes massive salad.

A Co-op Tiramisu actually only feeds 2 people or one when the other person cancels.

BedtimeBrainFog · 19/02/2026 16:42

Orange flavoured chocolate tastes gross and like it’s going off.

Unless there is a legitimate medical reason and your kids are otherwise healthy, they should have their childhood vaccines.

M&S Red Velvet cake is the only acceptable red velvet cake.

That’s 3 hills. Not sure which one will be my undoing but happy to die on any of these.

Mixing Up Less and Fewer

I made less mistakes this time - wrong!
I made fewer mistakes this time - Correct
Less people came to the party - Wrong
Fewer people came to the party - correct

I drink less wine now - correct but not true!! 😂😂😂😂

  • if you can count the things → use fewer
  • If you can't count → use less

You should only be able to vote after successfully answering a couple of questions to confirm that you know what you are voting about. We left the EU because 90% of people didn’t actually know what it would mean for the country.

Yessss

exhaustDAD · 19/02/2026 16:43

Red Velvet is not a flavour. Fighting my children on that one..

Echobelly · 19/02/2026 16:43

Yes, men and women can just be friends. It may not be the case for you, I won't judge you for that, but it doesn't mean other people are lying when they say they have friends of the opposite sex where sexual attraction just doesn't enter the equation.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 19/02/2026 16:43

I’m never ever paying cinema prices for popcorn and snacks. I cannot bring myself to do it. Now I can afford it, but my inner poor person won’t let me tap my card. Also sneaking in snacks is half the fun even though they don’t really seem to care about you brining your own food in these days.

I refuse to use season, actually any Americanisms.

Behaviour contracts should be signed before you enter a cinema

Dog ownership should be contingent upon having passed a proper official test

Completely agree on both counts.

Media viewing on phones/tablets in public, including transport without headphones should be illegal.
