Miss the cinema but it feels too extravagant to go now

Anyone else? I used to go to the cinema a lot. But having to watch the budget and it's just so much. Such a shame really.

Not sure if anyone’s mentioned the 2 free Vue tickets a month if you have Sky movies. Just as well they offer these as Sky movies is terrible!

paddleboardingmum · 14/02/2026 08:55

how much do you spend on streaming services per month?

The only one I have is Amazon Prime- but just seen the posters above saying about the Odeon tickets! thats brilliant thank you! made my day.

I find going on a weekday at non peak times makes a difference, although I do have Thursdays off work which I appreciate not everyone has.

Our only local cinema is an Odeon Luxe - Wuthering Heights is £23.49 today per seat. Everything else is £18.49-22.49 except the kids club movie at 10am which is a quid!

i tend to use the Prime deal which is fantastic value or go on Mondays which are better than half price for tickets.

KitsyWitsy · 14/02/2026 09:56

My local cinema shows old films (better!) for £6. I go to them all and take my own snacks.

The other cinemas the tickets are about £10 aren't they?

Sesquipedahlia · 14/02/2026 10:10

But those of you with Odeon Cinemas could join their membership scheme, which I gather is cheaper than Curzon and gives unlimited access.

Foggytree · 14/02/2026 10:13

I either use the Sky tickets for Vue cinemas- this is Sunday through to Thursday., or use Tesco clubcard points for Cineworld.

So I don't see it as expensive at all.

Wow that’s pricey! I don’t really watch films and never go to the cinema because I’d just fall asleep, I used to take the dc but it’s just not my idea of a fun way to spend free time but if I did I’d not want to be spending £20+ per ticket on anything that wasn’t live theatre (which I absolutely love - make it make sense 🤣)

LlynTegid · 14/02/2026 11:08

Look at any days with reduced prices (some do Mondays) and as noted the O2 and meerkat deals.

It is the best way to see most films, hope something works for you.

SatsumaDog · 14/02/2026 11:10

Every time I go there’s some idiot talking or
eating with their mouth open. Much easier to
enjoy the film at home in peace.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 14/02/2026 11:10

Our Vue is £4.99 a ticket, bring drinks and snacks from the supermarket

Favouritefruits · 14/02/2026 11:13

The Vue saver seats are £4.99 which isn’t too bad, I don’t think they could do it much cheaper to be honest.

Hereforthecommentz · 14/02/2026 11:14

Out odean has films for 5quid and meerkat 2 4 1 days so it's really cheap to go to the cinema, just take your own snacks

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 14/02/2026 11:15

I think the Odeon is £6 here, it seems good value to me for a couple of hours entertainment.

But we tend to go with the free tickets we get from Sky, or use Clubcard vouchers at the Picturehouse. I can't remember the last time I paid to see a film. And I always take my own drink.

zingally · 14/02/2026 11:18

As it happens, I'm off the the cinema on my own in a little bit.
It's an Odeon Luxe about 15 minutes drive from here, and costs £6.85 for the cheapest seat. I take my travel mug of coffee, and a tupperware with a mixture of chocolate and crisps.

It's only been open about 9 months. It used to be a Cineworld, which was quite a bit more expensive from what I can remember. More like £11 a ticket.

I think £6.85 is very reasonable personally. It's the food and drink where they make their profits.

Wowzas! I'm off to a 12:30 showing of Wuthering Heights at my local Odeon Luxe, and it's costing me £6.85!

JuneFromBethesda · 14/02/2026 11:25

My husband and I have Odeon Limitless. There usually a Black Friday deal every year with a good deal for annual membership, which makes the cost per ticket pretty reasonable compared to standard prices.

We go to the cinema most weeks and we love it, it’s our favourite going out activity. We don’t drink, don’t go to clubs, pubs, expensive restaurants so for us this is money well spent.

We’re have a couple of smaller chain cinemas near us as well which show some of the less mainstream films so we’re spoilt for choice. I love going to the cinema, it’s so relaxing.

JuneFromBethesda · 14/02/2026 11:25

But even with Odeon membership I refuse to go and see Wuthering Heights 😄

Marmalademorning · 14/02/2026 11:26

Independently run cinemas found in smaller towns are a lot cheaper than the big chains.

Sesquipedahlia · 14/02/2026 11:36

I find with cinema membership I'm inclined to take a chance on films I might not risk spending money on if I were paying per film.

It’s not theatre (unless live screening which is charged separately) but I have a slight addiction to being in an auditorium, so it partly satisfies that craving. Most viewers at all my local cinemas are well behaved, and, apart from a midweek evening premier of Hamnet, at almost all the showings I’ve been to recently, there have been at most twenty five people watching with me. Often fewer than ten - so it feels peaceful and relaxing. Particularly if I have time to walk either there or back.

KnickerlessParsons · 14/02/2026 11:39

I think Octopus offer reduced price tickets too

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 14/02/2026 11:46

Smaller indie cinemas can be the place to go. Ours is £5 a ticket and £20 for a family matter how many children they have.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/02/2026 12:32

If you use it enough a membership deal works out financially in your favour but you need to go religiously

I've got the opposite problem. 2 free tickets a month but struggle to find anything that grabs my attention
Only used them 4 times last year.

AltitudeCheck · 14/02/2026 14:19

Vue near me is £4.99 (saver seat booked online) and often there's only half a dozen people in there (I guess the films I enjoy aren't very popular!) so I arrive at the end of the trailers and ads sit wherever I like. I don't work on a Monday and have a secret cinema trip a couple of times a month (not really a secret but OH doesn't like the cinema so we don't really talk about what I'm seeing!)
