Do you have, or know another woman, with a very sweet voice?

There’s a certain type of very sweet voice that I’ve noticed a few times in American women who are either Christian Fundamentalist, or what for want of a better description, male centred in their views. The women in the Warren Jeff’s cult were the most extreme example.

I’ve never met a woman irl who speaks in that pitch, including women from all over Europe, South Africa, Australia, Russia, etc. Nor do any of my American friends talk like that.

Is it a dialect? Is it trained? I can’t even imitate it properly, and I don’t think I could keep it up even if I could, it must be exhausting if it’s put on. And why? Do men like squeaky saccharine voices?

No. I'm Northern. All the women I know, including myself, have got a voice like a shrieking fishwife. I'd love to have soft, modulated tones.

🤣🤣🤣

Yep, one of my best friends! Loveliest girl, but she has a really young, coochie coo voice. The funny thing is, her husband is the same. They both talk very softly to their late teen daughter, who also does it too. For a long time I couldn’t work if it was an act! Grin

That's funny that the husband speaks in this way!

If a man has an incredibly deep voice is he reverse true and peoeple think it is is an affectation. I have a male friend that has a really deep voice and always has done so I don't think this is true.

Sorry for spelling mistakes

There was a lot about it a couple of years ago

I think it's down to abject disapproval at any sign of sounding authoritative or, God forbid, confident about anything.

One of my ex's main complaints about me (along with failing at womanhood because I walked with my feet rather than on demi-pointe, particularly when barefoot) was that my voice got too deep and manly if I dared sound like I knew what I was talking about (actually knowing stuff was the third strike, IIRC).

I would think that somebody who hasn't got the freedom to kick arseholes like that into touch would eventually be pretty much unable to speak with a chest voice or project using diaphragmatic breathing.

I save squeaking for dealing with the cat. Although, in fairness, he generally ignores me then as well - it's the voice that comes from the depths of hell my body growling 'do not make me get up' that gets his nose out of the bin.

What, so this guy thought women should LITERALLY walk on tiptoe all the time? Like he’d never met a human female but learned about them from Barbie dolls? What a weirdo

I've noticed lately that the more tired I get, the deeper my voice gets. It's an insight into what I noticed about a lot of older women and my current/future. Young things and those who want to affect a certain way of being may sound "sweet", as you describe it, but the rest of us will follow the natural way of things! I remember a colleague years ago, very ultra feminine in dress and manners, maybe like a Marylin Monroe, so there may be a "look", some people are after.

Yup.

But this was somebody who also believed that upon taking weight off the feet, the toes should fall into perfect alignment with the sole (as when feet are pointed) and the ball of the foot should disappear. So, instead of Barbie, they needed to look like Action Man feet or they were being deliberately deformed by the woman specifically to enrage him.

He also used to get on one about the existence of sandals, flip flops and nail polish.

It probably won't surprise you to learn that after dumping him (and changing the locks, obviously), that my first purchases were nail polishes in all the colours of the rainbow, lots of glittery and chrome ones and a pair of sandals for every day of the week.

Reports are that he's since become a massive fan of Andrew Tate and any right wing incel commentator that will complain about women being deceitful/got ideas above their station/owe men everything, unsurprisingly enough.

There were two mums at my son's primary school who spoke like this. What amused me was that when they were talking to each other, their voices got progressively higher and more childlike, almost competitively, until only bats could understand them.
