What have you used AI for today?

Just that!

I asked if for dinner ideas and told it the vague contents of my fridge. I’ve also been using it at work for a qualification I’m working on. Not for content but to formulate answers from my own content for questions I’ll be asked for it.

ObliviousCoalmine · 12/02/2026 22:08

Nothing, because I can use my brain for all the things it could be used for in my day to day life?

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 12/02/2026 22:10

PandorasSockBox · 12/02/2026 18:39

Nothing consciously, but, of course, you cannot search on Google for anything these days without Gemini interrupting with useless information, rather than what you are actually looking for!

Switch to a non-ai browser or install an anti-ai extension

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 12/02/2026 22:12

Rummikub · 12/02/2026 18:42

I dislike when the google search shows me the AI interpretation first. I want to choose when / if I use AI.

Dump Google. there are non-ai alternatives

I think it depends a lot on what your job is. Many office based jobs expect a level of AI use now.

FuckRealityBringMeABook · 12/02/2026 22:16

Nothing, it is shit, immoral, planet-destroying and rooted in IP theft on a massive scale.

Barrellturn · 12/02/2026 18:32

Well it's on Google, attached to Adobe and my email so it annoyingly interrupts everything I try and do.

So I have asked it to bugger off probably x 100 today. It's worse than clippy.

Clippy the paperclip! Who could forget him 😆

whatisheupto · 12/02/2026 22:26

Interesting. I agree with the environmental concerns of course. I barely use AI but like many, wonder if I ought to be keeping up and starting to use it more. All the things I've used it for so far have had underwhelming redults and I feel I'd do a better job myself and it hasn't particularly saved much time. I can see how it can be invaluable in some careers though.

I like the idea of using it to generate pie charts and graphs, and also to interpret spreadsheets.

  1. Used copilot to listen in to my meeting takes notes and actions
  2. Used copilot to solve an interesting maths question I wasn’t able to solve myself

Nothing. I'm ethically opposed to AI and I don't use it for anything.

Anything??

I am ideologically opposed too, I am in a creative industry and it doesn’t seem good for the planet. But you can’t use Google or do a grocery order or track a run or send a text (predictive text??) without the use of AI. Done all those things today!

BlackCat14 · 12/02/2026 22:40

I asked it how to prepare parsnips for a weaning baby, what to do with my shortbread mix as it was too crumbly, and to tell me what the drama is with the French ice skaters who just won the Olympic gold. Can you tell I’m on mat leave? 🤣

redfairy · 12/02/2026 22:41

I'm an administrator so use it everyday for minutes, summarising transcripts and emails. Privately I've used it for garden design and planting ideas this week as well as reflective 'therapy'

It really doesn't matter if you are using it directly or not - the people keeping the lights on and the gas flowing, water/sewage etc all are. The companies making your next phone and those manufacturing your clothes are, and the people organising getting food to the shops are. There isn't many things it's not involved in now, and that will just increase over time .

RNApolymerase · 12/02/2026 22:51

I asked it to help me with an A level exam question that didn't make sense. It was a multiple choice question and none of the answers seemed to apply. Chat GPT tried to make the answers fit and talked what was essentially a load of nonsense. Eventually I gave up and did my own googling and discovered there was actually a mistake in the question. I told Chat GPT this, and it said "oh yes, there was a mistake in the question". Bloody waste of time.

SafeAndStranded · 12/02/2026 22:51

Talked through my peri-menopausal pmt rage rather than going postal at the family for no good reason. The logical yet sympathetic tone really helps.

Also to make an email less arsey because my condescending colleague was getting right on my tits (see pmt rage above)

It is possible to do all those things without using AI. I turn it off on Google, for example, and I don't use predictive text.

KitTea3 · 12/02/2026 23:01

I'm embarassed to say I asked it to explain to me (like a 5 year old) how the hell interest rates and mortgages work. I am....really 1)not good at maths or b)finances. So it helped explain it in a way I now actually have some idea of what the hell I'm doing. 🤣

That said I really rarely use it, (just for the stupid things I don't want to have to ask actual people about)

IfyouStealMySunshine · 12/02/2026 23:08

I got it to recommend me some books based on a couple of previous ones I’ve enjoyed round a particular theme.
I’ve also got ut to recommend me some places to visit to suit our interests as a family on an upcoming weekend away we have. I find things like this so useful with ChatGPT as it’s so long winded trying to do it using google and slowly going through filtering results.

Rummikub · 12/02/2026 23:12

Ilovemyshed · 12/02/2026 21:45

@Rummikubif you finish your search request with “-ai” it doesn’t.

Thanks for this. I’ll start doing this.

Nothing at all? Finger print/ face recognition to get into phone. Sat nav, changing your route due to traffic. Netflix showing you programs that you may like. Spam filters on emails. Predictive text, auto correct. Robot vacuum. Google translate.

So much uses AI nowadays so I’ll be really
surprised if you completely avoid it (especially if you’re online). I did use AI to ask what everyday tasks use AI.

mindutopia · 13/02/2026 09:49

I don’t use AI. I used ChatGPT once to make funny pictures of the dog. That’s it. Otherwise, I use my own brain.

It's not about not using your brain. It saves me so much time at work. Instead of trawling through folders finding a document saved by someone a year ago or looking for an email AI does that for me.
It also helped me choose paint colours for my living room

Squirrelchops1 · 13/02/2026 14:30

Comparing health insurance quotes

NinePoppadomsAndASaagAloo · 13/02/2026 16:37

Haven’t read the full thread so forgive me if I’m repeating what someone else has already said…

People who say “I never use AI”

Do you:

never use search engines, shop online, use any social media, not use Siri/Alexa/other voice assistants, never use smart plugs, track your run/walk/other exercise, use calorie tracking apps, a home appliance you can control remotely, not use autocorrect or predictive text, never speak to a customer service bot, not have smart security cameras/Ring doorbells, not use Netflix/Spotify/other music or TV streaming, not use face or fingerprint to unlock your phone or banking apps, never use SatNav or map software?

I find it extremely unlikely that there is anyone in the modern world not using any AI at all. If you’re using a smartphone, a tablet or even a computer - you are using AI. Perhaps not intentionally. But you are.

I’ve used it today for several reasons. Hard not to.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 13/02/2026 16:44

Nothing, as far as I know.
