Just that!

how to deal with weirdo at a NMW job with predominantly men who is always asking inappropriate questions and talking about his private life - just a cultural issue. An African guy, totally out of tune with what Western guy is meant to be like - this is why I have been taking him with a pinch of salt and laughing at him

I've not used it knowingly today, sometimes I use it if a website presents me with a ChatBot. I've played in the past with ChatGPT, fine but doesn't really save me time. I don't really like denying myself the full cognitive process I suppose :)

Earlier in the week I took part in a couple of live-chat (text based) sessions with "I'm a Computer Scientist, Get Me Out Of Here" (I work in the area*) and a few of the schoolkids were asking me and the other scientists about artificial intelligence.

A project I've been working on with a couple of colleagues is about Music and AI and we've written an online magazine for 8-12 year olds about how computer scientists and musicians are using AI to analyse and even re-create lost music.

At the end of the March we're running a hackathon for A level students on AI and Music with a bit of Python.

I'll post this first then see if I can add the links - pretty much every time I post something with a link it gets deleted, then later re-added ;)

While I can edit my previous post the links I'm adding don't appear to actually show up, so...

• I'm A Scientist GMOOH https://imacomputerscientist.uk/ (FREE for state schools, not sure about private ones)
• Music and AI online magazine (for 8-12 yo + teachers / home educators of children that age) https://cs4fn.blog/bitof6/ (FREE)
• Music and AI hackathon, for A-level students https://teachinglondoncomputing.org/2026/02/12/london-music-ai-hackathon-for-a-level-students-15-qmul-express-your-interest/ (FREE)

I mainly use it at work. Today I got it to build me two agents for things I commonly do, to make prompting much quicker and to reduce iterations. Then I used one of the agents to convert a SQL script into a python notebook. Other than that I used it to write a response to an email and collate information on someone I'm going to be sharing a panel with soon. Today I plan on using it to help me prepare the keynote address I need give before the panel.

KittyMcKitty · 12/02/2026 19:46

Nothing today but I do use copilot to plot graphs from spreadsheets

Piknik · 12/02/2026 19:50

I used it to generate a couple of pie charts and a graph based on data i inputted. I have also used it to help me write beats for a script.

yes you have to watch the hallucinations and use it as a tool as part of your own work. I always use ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini and for my purposes, which.is usually coding syntax help, Gemini is by far the best and ChatGPT makes up incorrect syntax!

Thats why im not overly worried about its use, as yet. It will be a long while before we dont need humans to check the output and oversee it.

Have you used GPT-5.3 Codex or Opus 4.6? I haven't as I don't subscribe myself (just use free versions at home and work is on GPT-5). But from all reports they are massively ahead already and will pre test code and fix before turning it over.

Popcorn76 · 12/02/2026 20:00

To write a formula in google sheets where I needed to convert multiple currencies on different dates. It turns out that there is only conversion of some currencies in google on week days and non holiday dates so the formula ended up being pretty complicated.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 12/02/2026 20:15

My job involves regulating the use of AI, so I don't let it regulate itself.

Had a male colleague AI-splain that part of my work was wrong to may manager though, that was fun.

cateringday · 12/02/2026 20:27

Rewording messages on WhatsApp
Rewording two emails
looking for car insurance
talked to it about my ill child and it was sympathetic and kind

No that's a fair point in my maligning chatgpt as I dont pay so it will be the basic model. At my level (I'm not a sw dev, doing config stuff) I'm pretty happy with Gemini for now. I'm aware there are loads of applications of AI out there that I'm not even aware of. I'm trying to be organic with my AI use and using it as and when I find a need to. I'm not interested in stupid face generations or using it to write emails or text for me, as I enjoy doing that myself, but for code syntax I am finding it invaluable.

I work in cyber defence and already AI has stopped millions more threats than any human teams ever could. SOCs are overwhelmed and humans need a break and can't be watching or analysing 24x7 and AI models have already revolutionised threat detection, to the good of humanity I feel (having witnessed some horrific ransomware attacks).

Nothing.

Although it’s going to change the world it can’t yet muck out my pigs or spot that there was an extra 200l on the diesel delivery invoice versus what will actually fit in the tank.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 12/02/2026 21:39

Nothing.

Nitgel · 12/02/2026 21:41

I use it at work a lot.though today it couldn't covert an acrobat document to text. I had to actually type out the whole page. Like the old days.

Rummikub · 12/02/2026 18:42

I dislike when the google search shows me the AI interpretation first. I want to choose when / if I use AI.

@Rummikubif you finish your search request with “-ai” it doesn’t.

thismummydrinksgin · 12/02/2026 21:45

To tell me how many calories in a recipe .

whattheysay · 12/02/2026 21:47

My daughter goes in at me about the water impact it ai so I try not use it as now it’s in my head. Although anytime I google anything up pops ai so what can I do

katmunchkin · 12/02/2026 21:50

To show me what my conservatory, post renovation, will look like!

beakyboo10 · 12/02/2026 21:53

I asked chatGPT to suggest a new fragrance for me and it came up with some very good suggestions. I have also used it a lot for recipes or suggestions for food that I could try for my son who has sensory issues around food.

NoYourNameChanged · 12/02/2026 21:55

I haven’t used it, today or many others afaik! I‘m not mega keen if I’m honest.

reversegear · 12/02/2026 21:55

Refining emails, checked loan t&cs against a comparative loan company, wrote some advert copy as a starter, I’ve used it to bank and review some CVs just to check which candidates have a degree!

Smallorveryfaraway · 12/02/2026 21:56

I used it to provide insights from a spreadsheet of data for a presentation. It got a couple of figures wrong, but aside from that it did a pretty good job.
I use it quite a bit to word emails professionally, as a starter which I then review and adjust before sending. It speeds things up. I can set it going in the background on a task, do something else in another tab or application then come back for the output.

EnglishBreakfastTea1 · 12/02/2026 21:58

99.9% of the time I refuse to use it. But I'm trying to look for a new job and I am crap at CV writing so AI did help me a little bit. I tried to amend the suggestions to more what I personally would say, though.
