Alternative to biscuits

treeowl · 10/02/2026 17:44

I am trying to eat healthier, reduce sugar & UPFs but struggling with biscuits as I love them. Any alternatives I am unaware of, happy to bake too.

Flapjacks? Use a healthy recipe and add in some fruit. Or chickpeas? Bake them and they’re nice with seasonings.

Rice or corn cakes with peanut butter

BillieWiper · 10/02/2026 17:52

Bake your own granola bars using lots of dried fruit and nuts, seeds, less sugar or syrup.

Fat free sponge cake, using just eggs, flour. BP and sugar. Could use sweetener. Can use protein pudding and fruit as topping.

GF cookies using ground almonds. BP, Egg, sugar or sweetner and little bit of butter. With sf jam in the middle.

Is it the sugar or the texture you’re missing?

Neurodiversitydoctor · 10/02/2026 17:54

These are amazing

I’m not sure many of those things are low upf.

@FurForksSake Im not a huge fan of flapjacks but maybe need to find a better recipe.
Chickpeas are my crisp alternative.

@catin8oot5 yes I do use rice cakes for a sweet boost.

@BillieWiper didn't think of those options and I love almond flavour.

@fizzyroselemonade the combo!

Apple slices with nut butter

MrTwisterHasABlister · 10/02/2026 18:06

Medjool dates with a smidge of good quality peanut butter where the stone would have been are a good ‘healthy’ sweet hit.

treeowl · 10/02/2026 18:19

Thanks all, given me some good ideas

Nibble on grapes, apple slices, cheese cubes and bake your own biscuits. Most dough can be frozen, so just bake enough for a day or two.

Are flour, oats, eggs, butter, dried fruit, ground almonds, baking powder, fruit upf?

Maybe artificial sweeteners are. So just use sugar or honey/maple syrup.

Whizz some dates up in a food processor, add ground almonds and peanut butter (the stuff I use is 100% peanuts with no added sugar, oil or salt). Add cocoa if you want (I did, but don’t think it needed it). Press into tin and refrigerate, then cover with melted chocolate mixed with a little peanut butter and put back in fridge until chocolate topping is hard.

Went down very well last week with vegan daughter and gluten free friend and I liked them too (neither vegan nor GF)!

RaininSummer · 10/02/2026 18:48

Crispy apples sliced are quite good and even better with some peanut butter.

HarryVanderspeigle · 10/02/2026 20:46

I made chickpea cookies the other week. Lower sugar and tasted good. The only issue is there was some kind of chemical reaction ant they turned green the next day!

IWantToHibernate · 10/02/2026 20:50

I’ve been having an apple with my tea rather than the usual biscuit. Other options are dried apricots, raisins, banana, small bag of popcorn

gototogo · 10/02/2026 20:54

In all honesty op you need to kick the snack habit on a regular basis, just have biscuits occasionally. Once you get used to it you don’t crave snacks

Empress13 · 10/02/2026 20:56

Dark chocolate rice cakes quite low in calories and 2 fill that craving

WonderingWanda · 10/02/2026 21:05

Air popped popcorn
Nuts and dried fruit
Roasted chickpeas

RedPanda2022 · 10/02/2026 21:37

ignore the people who say ‘just don’t snack’ or say how they are never hungry etc…everyone is different

Try

Rice cakes
nairns oatcakes - cheese, fruit/oat are yummy
savoury crackers or breadsticks
dried or fresh fruit
cheese
peanut butter /nuts
popcorn

Morepositivemum · 10/02/2026 21:51

Popcorn, cut up apples and bananas or frozen grapes!

Notmyreality · 10/02/2026 21:52

Cake.

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/02/2026 21:53

I’ve been using kallo whole grain rice cakes and then topping with fruit, nut butter, biscoff spread, cheese etc as my mood decides! They’re only 27 calories

Chipsahoy · 10/02/2026 21:55

Aldi shortbread! Though still sugary and fatty it has few ingredients. Otherwise make your own cookies. You can also swap out sugar for other alternatives then too.

You can go further. Open the date, do the nut thing, then roll in peanut butter, freeze, then roll in melted dark chocolate.
