I've played it twice at work team building events.
The rules are essentially Petanque with static cochonnet and a way to interfere with the throw by changing the ice conditions a bit.
Amateurs use normal shoes and a small slider, slipper like thingy, over obe shoe for throwing.
A player is either trying to get very close to the center, to displace opponent's stone or to place your stone in a way it protects your centrally placed stone from displacing.
The mop action makes a bit of heat, melting the small irregularities on the ice surface, making the stone go a bit further.
I've enjoyed the most the position behind the central point, where you react on the opponent's throw and try to smooth the way for it outside of the central circle.
