to "Clear the cobwebs"

Do people do this?! is this a thing? To drink quite a many some cocktails, and instead of a cracking Mcdonalds breakfast, full sugar coke and laying in a dark room avoiding anyone else in the house, you go on a PARKRUN?!

Fucking madness

It is a thing.

One of my friends set her parkrun pb after a night on tequila and 3 hours sleep.

I think she just couldn't feel the pain 😂

Normal people stagger round feeling rough and then go for breakfast, that usually does the trick

I agree - got my Park Run PB the morning after my daughter-in-law's hen night 2 years ago. Never managed to get anywhere near it since 🤣

Cheersmedears123 · 08/02/2026 19:15

Last weekend with a hangover I nearly puked after walking a tad too quickly to the kitchen. Going for a run would be impossible!

This has made me cackle 😂

I'm concerned how many of you are this way inclined tbh!

I had a hot then cold then hot then cold then hot shower and a very icy cold Diet Coke and feel somewhat human again.

Although I fear I am too old for a bottomless brunch now 💔

RunningJo · 09/02/2026 07:31

Yep, my parkrun PB was fuelled by a hangover. Maybe it was alcohol still in my body, maybe I wanted to just get it over with quickly 🤣.

Damnloginpopup · 09/02/2026 07:35

I've had a few pbs hungover. One stood for ages, I was still a bit pissed and couldn't feel my legs. I was laughing while running too. Best fun at parkrun ever! The problem with Friday night drinking.

Normally though, I don't want to move out of bed.

ninjaassassin · 09/02/2026 07:41

I think it's the sugar/carbs in alcohol that helps you run. I had a bloody brilliant run last weekend after drinking a whole bottle of prosecco the night before.

This weekend I went to bed at 10pm and had zero alcohol and struggled to finish my run.

WTF? its definitely some weird phenomenon

MaryBeardsShoes · 09/02/2026 07:45

For me it would be the people that make it unbearable but a run/exercise is a good hangover cure.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 09/02/2026 07:58

I can smell the alcohol on some people ahead of me at parkrun. I don't know how they do it.

MTOandMe · 08/02/2026 16:58

I’m sure there are many people who are this way inclined. I, however, am not. The last terrible hangover I had was the day I was supposed to be doing our holiday ironing/packing. For every item of clothing I ironed, I had to have a lay down.

I can so imagine your pain - made me laugh too, sorry😂🍷

Secretseverywhere · 09/02/2026 08:15

I think it’s a kill or cure but I think if you do something that “sweats it out” you recover faster. Like a Pp I like a swim, even better if you can go sit in a sauna/ steam for a bit then into a cold pool.

BiscoffCheesecakes · 09/02/2026 08:42

If your friend regularly does them there's no reason to skip it just because of a session the night before. It really would clear my head & give me a boost of energy....but I'd probably be tired later on, which is fine. My first ever Parkrun was after a few wines the night before, when dd1 announced that she'd signed us both up! I turned up in the snow & in a foul mood but got through it & felt amazing after

Thundertoast · 09/02/2026 08:44

So im actually not this way inclined at all, but I have done a weightlifting session a couple of times with a hangover (not a severe one) and it sucked but I did feel miles better. However that was at slower than normal pace and no cardio at the end like I normally do, so impressed that people are able to shake it off doing cardio, I know a few people like it!

I’ve heard the same from friends!

BauhausOfEliott · 08/02/2026 16:41

Christ, Parkrun’s bad enough even when I’m not hungover. I’d rather stab myself in the face than do it while already feeling like shit. Hideous.

It’s not the running itself, it’s everything about it.

Have you ever done one?

greatvisuals · 09/02/2026 09:02

Exercise speeds up your metabolism and makes your body deal with the hangover in a double fast time.

I learnt this when I worked as a countryside ranger and our hangovers were always gone by 11am if we were doing heavy outdoor work.

modernfairies · 09/02/2026 09:06

Swimming is great with a hangover - in a lake is even better. I worked as a lifeguard as a teenager and often had training at 6am when I’d only finished clubbing at 4am - it was amazing how much better I’d feel after training, even if I felt absolutely dreadful before.

GlasgowGal2014 · 09/02/2026 09:19

I think it depends on the individual and how badly hungover they get. If I have more than a couple of drinks I am guarenteed to really struggle with the hangover the following day and I struggle to leave my bed because I struggle with nausea, tiredness and blinding headaches. There is no way I could run anywhere. Other people, like my OH, seem to just feel a bit groggy and I'm sure if he could get there safely he'd manage a 5k after a heavy night.

I noticed this on holiday. Getting into a cold swimming pool gets rid of a hangover quickly! I think it’s due to releasing dopamine

I never get a hangover on holiday abroad! Maybe the AI drinks are weak 🤔

Sweating out alcohol is a complete load of bollocks. It's not a thing. Increasing circulation by exercising probably helps with mild hangovers. But not truly awful full-on death is coming hangovers.

I’m glad you said this! The alcohol is in your blood stream, you can’t sweat out blood!

RunningAndSinging · 11/02/2026 08:14

Where do you think the water in your sweat comes from?

having said that, I have no idea if you do sweat out alcohol or not.

Excess alcohol thst your liver can’t metabolise is excreted through urine, breath and pores through sweat. It’s why some people reek after drinking.

If you’ve got decent liver function (and are relatively circumspect in your alcohol consumption) then it might not be something you’ve noticed. It’s this excess that seems to be helped by exercise as it helps your body flush out the toxins.
