Where are you doing your online food shop?

For context, we usually do an Ocado shop, but I have found that I’m just getting bored of it, more and more items out of stock when you check out and terrible dates on meat, which is a shame cause a few months ago we had none of these problems.

which food shop have you found to be decent when shopping online.

also - we live rural so driving to do a shop is out of the question, there is literally
no time 🤣

Ha! I’ve just gone back to ocado after leaving them when they jumped into bed with M&S (famed for their UPF and convenience food!), stock levels of regular food dwindled and I got fed up with them.
Switched to Tescos, have been happy enough but the only meat I bought from there weekly was an organic chicken which had been out of stock for weeks and now unavailable to purchase permanently. So I’ve ditched them and gone back!

StopWindingBobStopWinding · 03/02/2026 11:23

Morrisons. Uses the same interface as Ocado, shares a warehouse and delivery drivers, everything is fresh as a daisy (at least for me because my deliveries are picked and picked in a warehouse, I’m aware this isn’t the case for all areas and some people’s come from stores) and barely ever have any thing out of stock or substituted. Highly recommended.

JamesClyman · 03/02/2026 11:25

Sainsburys, but I always get meat and fish from our local butchers and fishmongers (both very good),

Bydefaultibecameamagician · 03/02/2026 11:29

I think you'll find its area dependent and need to try a few. I did this when I moved to my new area (old area I'd used asda for years with minimal issue). I tried each one for 3 weeks to see which was best.
Sainsbury's the guy shouted at me because I wouldn't let him deliver my shopping an hour early (I was on the school run said he could come after that whichwas still beforemy slot), shopping had 10 subs one day and most were not great.
Asda were hopeless, late, lots of subs, one damaged item.
Morrisons were late, lots of items out of stock.
So for the past 7 years I've stuck with tesco. I probably have one bad shop a year (usually if we've had snow and deliveries to store have been disrupted). But that feels ok when its slightly out of everyone's control. 8 subs when it snowed in January.
Thats no help to you but you probably need to try them out.

I usually do my on-line shop from home.

OffToSeaInABlizzard · 03/02/2026 11:34

I’ve been an Ocado customer for more than fifteen years, but since around 2020 the balance of my shopping has been weighted more towards

Riverford’s

Hodmedod’s

The Tinned Fish Market (and online fishmongers)

Plus local excellent providers of baked goods, coffee beans, wine, cheese, etc.

So Ocado just fills in the gaps. I know I could source household stuff more cheaply elsewhere, but it’s so convenient and easy. (And I can get a delivery sent to another address easily without any faff.)

Duckingpondlake · 03/02/2026 11:35

I find Teaco are the only ones locally to me who can deliver what I order in a reasonable state, but it varies massively depending on where you live I think.

NoYourNameChanged · 03/02/2026 11:37

Sainsbury’s. I had Asda for a while (cheap but intermittently shite with fruit / veg and now no cheaper than the others but still a bit shite) then Morrisons (stock was patchy but produce generally good) and now I’m going with Sainsbury’s. They seem a good all rounder so far. We’re farmers so produce a lot of our own meat, so can’t comment on that too much.

Nottogetapenny · 03/02/2026 11:40

Ocado, have been with them for years. I like that I can also add M&S products to my shopping.

Nevertriedcaviar · 03/02/2026 11:42

We've never had any problem with Ocado. We've been with them for years.

Hoppinggreen · 03/02/2026 11:43

Ocado, rare to have subs and anything out of stock.
Never late and nice drivers

familyissues12345 · 03/02/2026 11:45

Ocado. So reliable, great dates and very rarely do they not have stock.
We do occasionally get a Sainsbury’s or Tesco, but find it so annoying when loads of stock comes short dated, or not at all, so always go back to Ocado

chrppelroan · 03/02/2026 12:26

I wonder if my area is just bad for dates on Ocado?! It would be ideal if there was a notes option to ask for the longest date like Tesco!

Motnight · 03/02/2026 12:28

Ocado but like others I think that it has gone downhill a bit. Regular substitutions. Often late. And sometimes packaging is damaged.

Madcats · 03/02/2026 12:41

Where are you, OP? My neck of the woods switches between Bristol (Portishead?) and Andover depending on long-term roadworks and demand. FWIW I usually start a list 3-4 days before a delivery and edit it as and when I have a fighting chance of knowing who is home to be fed!

I would be surprised if I had more than 5 subs in a year (and I probably have 5 deliveries/month). I tried Morrisons in lockdown (also from the Bristol warehouse). All the other supermarkets deliver from shops and sell-by dates were invariably short.

chrppelroan · 03/02/2026 12:43

@Madcatsmidlands/east of England but not hear the sea think Fenland-ish

mindutopia · 03/02/2026 13:04

Have always done Tesco. No complaints. They are great and I very rarely have a substitution. They even re-delivered a missed delivery at 10:30pm in the middle of the snowstorm the other week.

heartsinvisiblefury · 03/02/2026 13:10

Morrisons - absolutely brilliant

@StopWindingBobStopWinding do they deliver using bags?

CointreauVersial · 03/02/2026 13:25

Sainsbury's.

For many years I was loyal to Tesco, but started to feel like everything was a bit "samey", ended up buying the same things on repeat.

Then DH got a short-term job with Sainsbury's, which gave us a really good employee discount, so I switched. It was so much better, more choice, quality just as good, and plenty of Nectar deals, so even though DH doesn't work for them anymore (and the discount was rapidly withdrawn), I've stayed with them.

@StopWindingBobStopWinding do they deliver using bags?

Yes they do, charging 10p each, but refund them when you give them back for recycling next visit. I find it much easier and more pleasant than emptying the filthy trays Tesco deliver in.

EmmaStone · 03/02/2026 13:31

Usually Ocado, occasionally Waitrose. No complaints. Have dabbled with Tesco and Sainsburys, but prefer Ocado/Waitrose. Was gutted when Ocado switched from Waitrose goods to M&S.

Cloudsky0 · 03/02/2026 13:33

@StopWindingBobStopWinding oh that's great. I'm.going to give them a try.

I currently use ocado just for that reason as I cannot stand getting all the food out the crates I find it really awkward!

HelenHywater · 03/02/2026 13:37

Those of you who shop at Ocado, what's the own brand stuff like?

I mostly use Sainsbury's - but the substitutions can be annoying. I collect the points and use them for my Christmas shop.

For a treat or if I'm cooking for a special occasion, I use Waitrose - the food is lovely, there's never any substitutions and the delivery man carries it all inside for me.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 03/02/2026 13:43

Tesco is the most reliable one in this rural area. Morrisons and Sainsburys tend to have a lot of things out of stock, and a lot of the others don't deliver around here, as we are too far away from civilisation!
