13th birthday party help!

HelpMePlanThisParty · 02/02/2026 20:50

Please help. In a moment of weakness, I have agreed to have fifteen girls from my daughter’s class back to our house on Friday after school for her thirteenth birthday party. I have no idea how to occupy them for four-five hours. There will be a good amount of time where they are all getting ready, some dancing, I think I’ll probably have to feed them twice - snacks straight after school and maybe something more substantial later. And there will be mocktails. But realistically that still leaves A LOT of dead time. We have twister and jenga. Any other suggestions for games that they might like to play? I’m not any good at this kind of thing at all. I’m out of my comfort zone and I really don’t want to embarrass my daughter! Our house is not big at all - I’m not sure they’ll even all be able to fit in to any room other than the kitchen!

face packs
photo props to do some selfies
cupcake decorating
karoke
load of pizza bases and bowls with toppings in to build your own??
film & popcorn?

HelpMePlanThisParty · 02/02/2026 21:05

Face packs is a good idea
They are getting hats and sunglasses instead of party bags and maybe I could make a Photo Booth frame thing.
Pizzas is a no no - I recall it being a bloody nightmare trying to reconcile the right pizza with the right child when I did this before!

some good ideas though - thanks

oof op that’s a houseful!

I remember at a party for my friend’s 13th she brought out an ouija board. And at my friend Gavin’s 14th party there was a scary film and lots of snogging in one room, and a dance area and lots of snogging in the next room. The kitchen was the only place without loads of people having a snog.

does your dd have any ideas? I imagine she won’t want you to hover over her.

A film with popcorn and snacks?
I personally find girls of that age are able to and prefer to occupy themselves and are also happy to just sit and chat for hours

VenusClapTrap · 02/02/2026 21:10

They’ll amuse themselves at that age. Don’t worry too much about it.

karoke?

Karaoke hire coming in at £200 which is more than I want to spend really, although I’m not ruling it out entirely

At that age I think having games organised and orchestrated by mum could be a bit cringe.

Ask her what she wants? Just music, dancing, movies, plenty of snacks, deliveroo would seem reasonable to me, but I'm not sure what the trends are for kids RN.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 02/02/2026 21:11

I think at 13 they will entertain themselves pretty well. They are probably a bit old for party games but would probably still enjoy things like eating a donut off a string or jelly baby in flour. There are also some good escape room style games ( you can buy packs online) if you think they would like something a bit more structured.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 02/02/2026 21:12

Manicure kits so they can do each others nails

This is exactly the kind of thing I was after - thanks!

One of mine had a murder mystery party at that age. We downloaded the characters and clues, they all brought props and costumes (to varying degrees) and they had a lot of fun.

I agree - and I don’t really want to do it 🤣 but her older sister has had a couple of birthday parties where she has run out of steam after a couple of hours and everyone starts looking at each other for something to do. They are very different characters though, and it’s entirely possible I am overthinking this.

DD has no ideas other than a five hour Spotify playlist and a dress code 🤣

Tiredofitallagain · 02/02/2026 21:21

Build your own wraps for dinner?
Face masks and nail polish
Some girly magazines to share?

Wakemeupinapril · 02/02/2026 21:22

YouTube with lyrics is good enough op. Still have videos of my dd's dancing at their teen parties!!

SparklyBlueDress · 02/02/2026 21:22

I did pass the parcel with forfeits in each layer which they loved!

I love this idea! But I think it is beyond me. I’m working every day until the party. If I’d had a bit more time this is something I would have loved to do and dd would have loved it too.
