This is definitely a young journalist trying to appear like they know what they’re talking about.

Perhaps they are finding their pench a bit spenny.

Thats going on my “Top 10 words that fuck you off”, along with its best mate Chillax.

Mine too!

I earn 37k. I put in 25%. Private sector. Employer puts in the legal minimum only.

You put in 25% isn’t that quite a lot out of your salary?

I am on slightly less than you and money is tight.

Is it so hard to just write pension, instead of sounding like someone who’s not even old enough to have one?

This!

shhblackbag · 27/01/2026 04:04

😅

Weird post with zero context.

What?

the context is all there!

Hopeyoudontspotme · 27/01/2026 08:03

Earn 14 k
I put in 5.5% , work puts in 10% - it’s a local authority one.

works out about 60£ a month I put in , but it’s a db “pench” and is on track to pay out about 75% of my wage if I retire at 65.

also pay £5per week into a Lisa for when I hit 60.

im only 35 and plan to look more closely at what I’m saving for retirement at 40 , as by then I should be missing my dependents and nearly paid off the mortgage.

I have a feeling this was written to wind people up rather than to get the answer. 🎣

Oh my god I didn't know what 'pench' meant till I read the replies

I don't think that's going to catch on 🙈

tuvamoodyson · 27/01/2026 07:18

How busy would you have to be to say ‘pench’ instead of ‘pension?’ 🙈

Busy isn't the word I'd use....

Ladybugsarentallladies · 27/01/2026 08:08

Pench?!
Definitely a Gen Z person who has written that 😂

Oricolt · 27/01/2026 08:08

Say less OP, yeah? Man’s pattern is simple. Every month I lob £100 into my pensh, calm and collected. Then my employer clocks it and goes, “Say no more,” and bangs in 50% extra like it’s a buy-one-get-half-off deal. So while I’m just minding my business, my future self is getting sponsored. Big brain behaviour, still broke now but rich later vibes.

I actually thought this was a weird health question.

Disappointed to learn that pench is just a shit word for pension.

Me too!

redsunsets · 27/01/2026 08:11

You could well be right. Another 3 word name. Wind up words, posted & not engaged with thread.

I’m not so sure.

I feel like it’s going to be one of those words that gets stuck in my head and I’m going to end up saying it 🙈

Mum2Fergus · 27/01/2026 08:19

I’m now in drawdown but contributions very much ch depends on your current age, planned retirement age and how much of a retirement pot you estimate you will need.

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 27/01/2026 08:20

As a 2026 wench, I gotta clench and bench that pench before I trench coz I ain't French (where they have a superb state pench)
Or something like that anyway HTH OP

CloakedInGucci · 27/01/2026 08:44

SirChenjins · 27/01/2026 08:50

LottieMary · 27/01/2026 07:23

Always with this. Did you not learn percentages in maths then?
interest, percentages and compound interest are on the curriculum.

This. It makes me 🙄 when people say that these things aren't taught in school - it's all primary school stuff!

Anyway, I'm really here for the abomination that is "pench" Hmm
