Would you buy the Temu Range Rover

We’ve been looking at buying a new family car recently because ours is just about beyond repair. We have young kids and do a lot of sporty stuff such as mountain biking and camping so we need a large car. We already have a little run around. I was looking at the Volvo XC40 but wasn’t amazed. Someone mentioned the Jaecoo 7 and I hadn’t seen one in real life - only on social media. I went to test drive one and really liked it. It had all the bell and whistles of the XC40 but it was just so cheap. It seems too good to be true. I know they’re a new car over here without a proven track record for reliability and I’m worried about getting parts if needed. But they also have a 7 year warranty. It would be the plug in hybrid we would buy. I loved it but want to know if anyone has one and what’s the catch? Or if you’re looking at buying one too what are your thoughts?

We've just ordered one. We were really impressed. I've currently got a Toyota rav which I really love but the 7 is just a bit more luxurious without the pricetag.

Buy no.

Lease maybe. They seem to have cheap leasing deals and then if anything goes wrong it won’t be your problem.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 26/01/2026 18:24

The main thing that I would worry about is a lack of service and maintenance infrastructure/ capacity and mechanics trained on the vehicles (used to live in HK and when Tesla exploded over there the same thing happened- was impossible to get them serviced as not enough slots). Also a lot of people will be snobby about them, but that's their problem.

A friend has just bought a brand new one. It’s their first brand new car and they chose it because of the warranty and price.

They were a bit nervous as they didn’t know anything about the car, but they’re very happy.

Absolutely not! They have crazily many electrical issues. So many that Motability are considering removing them from the scheme as so many Motability customers have had enough issues to need hire cars for weeks at a time - all electrical issues. My neighbour’s one lasted 4 weeks! She then rejected it as it too, had electrical issues.

I have a Ford Explorer EV and it’s fantastic, I love it. Very spacious, lovely to drive, extremely comfortable and soool many hidden spaces inside to store/hide stuff.

Wouldyoujaecoo · 26/01/2026 18:31

This is all sounding very positive. We did think about looking at lease deals but again was just worried at how reasonably priced it all seemed. It’s funny how we are conditioned to be skeptical of things that look good. I’ll have a look at leasing.
yes, lack of infrastructure and slots for servicing does concern me.

If you’re open to an EV, Leaf Motors are getting lots of very good reviews.

Cheap for a reason. Make sure you read lots of owner reviews. I’ve seen some and they aren’t great

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 26/01/2026 18:35

Aren't they just lightweight plastic? They'd crumple on a crash. They are the new Dacia dusters. No thanks

It felt really solid and sturdy. It didn’t feel cheap at all. Inside felt lovely too.

🖤

Oh this does look lovely. Do you go camping and have bike racks on? Or do you know if it would cope with that type of use?

Yes you can put roof bars on. I’ll find you more pics

The boot is a good size too. I would advise going for the Extended Range version if you plan on travelling further. Mine is the standard range and so I only get about 300 miles (less in very cold weather) but the extended range gives you lots more. Loads more features too.

I’m seeing them everywhere round here (central Scotland). I’ve seen folk on TikTok rave about them, they are supposed to be really good. Well I haven’t seen any bad reviews but I wasn’t actually looking. If it’s a new car with a long warranty then go for it.

They look so much like a Range Rover from the side. It’s a big car for a decent price.

I will have a look at these. Thank you.

I wouldn't buy one, no. The depreciation and longevity is still an unknown so there's no guarantee you'd shift it if you came to sell. A lease might be fine. For similar money you can get a ford puma from a brand with decent track record and service infrastructure.

That said, they were one of the highest selling cars in the UK in December so obviously a lot of people disagree.

Tootyfilou · 26/01/2026 19:39

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy
What a snobby and ill informed remark. Dacia have excellent reviews.

NutButterOnToast · 26/01/2026 19:43

I wouldn't buy a brand new EV, of any brand. The depreciation is crazy. Much more than ICE cars.

You should look for a manufacturer approved used 1-2 years old. Big chunk of depreciation will be built in & you'll still have most of the warranty.
