Would you buy the Temu Range Rover

We’ve been looking at buying a new family car recently because ours is just about beyond repair. We have young kids and do a lot of sporty stuff such as mountain biking and camping so we need a large car. We already have a little run around. I was looking at the Volvo XC40 but wasn’t amazed. Someone mentioned the Jaecoo 7 and I hadn’t seen one in real life - only on social media. I went to test drive one and really liked it. It had all the bell and whistles of the XC40 but it was just so cheap. It seems too good to be true. I know they’re a new car over here without a proven track record for reliability and I’m worried about getting parts if needed. But they also have a 7 year warranty. It would be the plug in hybrid we would buy. I loved it but want to know if anyone has one and what’s the catch? Or if you’re looking at buying one too what are your thoughts?

Aren't they just lightweight plastic? They'd crumple on a crash. They are the new Dacia dusters. No thanks

Our Dacia Duster never broke down. Had seven years warranty. DS has it now, he's had no issues. It's a real workhorse. It's done 80k miles now.

It's like an overgrown ugly Range Rover with a name that reminds me of the Jonny Vegas menswear ads (Jacamo anyone??). There's so many established brands with cracking deals it would be a no from me.

My neighbour has one and moans about it drinking the fuel at a crazy rate, nothing like the published figures and dealer won’t check anything.

We would’ve going do the plug in hybrid so hopefully that would be an issue.

I really like the way it looks and I think that’s what is swaying me towards it and that’s possibly not the most sensible reason.

I really like them OP, a few school mums have them. I think they are stylish

Memberberry · 26/01/2026 20:27

I’ve got a Jaecoo 7 hybrid and I love it. It’s got great safety features and lots of extras that are really good for the price (head up display, fancy interior lights, ventilated as well as heated seats).

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 26/01/2026 20:29

It was roughly 13 years ago that James May said on an episode of Top Gear that we'd eventually all be driving Chinese cars. Volvo is Geely Holdings now, which are Chinese. So he wasn't far off the mark.

Virtually everything we buy is made in China, cars included.

When you can see how things are going, it's not too hard to predict how the future might turn out.

I was thinking about one but since I saw it called a Temu Range Rover (somewhere else) I can’t unsee it, so for that reason alone, no!

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 26/01/2026 20:49

Wouldyoujaecoo I have a new Ultra Black Volvo XC40 it’s the top of the range I think for Volvos XC40

I got it in April and I really like it
it has all the extras you need - heated steering wheel is my favourite one 😂

huge boot space and plenty of room in the back seats
and it’s really nice and smooth to drive
good on fuel as well

I had an bmw x2 and a x1 previously all brand new
but would definitely recommend the xc40 especially the ultra black edition as it’s much more chunkier and sleek looking if you like that look

they do ev version but it’s smaller and not as big and chunky although I think the smaller version looks a bit like the Range Rove Envougue

My friend has one on lease and loves it but she has had a few issues with the electronic key.

Update for anyone interested. We went with the Jaecoo 7 Luxury HEV and so far we love it. Loads of space and comfortable to drive. The problems people raise haven’t really been an issue for us. The tech is great and easy to navigate, the radio works fine and the ‘aggressive’ driver safety features aren’t really that bad but can be turned off easily. Very happy with out purchase

But is the body plastic?

Great news. Enjoy your new car

Have a look on Facebook owners groups, youll get a better idea.
They arent a Dacia, sadly. Dacias are reliable simple cars, they do suffer a lot of electrical problems, software glitches which can leave you stranded, parts for them ( as most chinese brands ) are a nightmare and have long or unknown wait times, dealers arent very interested sometimes in problems as they themselves arent supported properly and quality in the important places you dont see is lacking.
Be very careful and read those owners pages, youll get an idea what your looking at.
If something seems too good, it usualy is.

This is me . I’m a self confessed car snob and wouldn’t buy a ‘ cheap ‘ version lookalikey of anything . If you want a Range Rover buy a Range Rover .

No it isn’t. It feels like a really good quality build. I’ve had Audis and Minis and honestly rate the quality of the jaecoo.

Fair enough. I don’t really want a Range Rover though. I like this car for what it is and think what you get for the money is great. The facts it’s called a Temu Range Rover just makes me smile - I like it.

No!!! There’s loads of pages on Facebook of owners complaining about them. I’d have a look at those first. Even things like the paintwork rusting within weeks. Electrical issues etc.

Dont get me wrong - they look great, well kitted out and a good price - but please do fully do your research before you buy one.

We looked at getting one and quickly swerved to a used Tesla - warranty on the battery is up to 120k miles. But they too are not without their issues. We just felt we would be less likely to get issues with the Tesla than a Jaecoo. It’s our first ever dip into an electric car but so far, so good.

AragogsLeftHairyAnkle · 19/02/2026 10:49

I have a jaecoo j7. Phev I think it's lovely it's not a temu land rover. My only complaint is the boot coutbe a tad bigger. It's efficient and drives smoothly
