Would you trade 10 years of your life for £5 million?

Inspired by an old Black Mirror episode I watched. Got me wondering, if it was possible to age 10 years in a minute (but you haven’t gone forward in time & no one else has aged, just you) for £5 million would you do it? What about for £10m or £15m?

No.

Hollietree · 25/01/2026 19:34

Very interesting question. For me - no. 10 years of my life is more precious than any millions.

mynameiscalypso · 25/01/2026 19:36

No. I don’t think there’s enough money in the world to lose 10 years of time with my DC.

Swissmeringue · 25/01/2026 19:37

No, there's no amount of money I'd trade 10 years of my life for. I'm almost 40 and have kids though, I wonder if I'd have answered differently at 18/19 when the future seemed to stretch on much more endlessly than it does now and I had way less respect for my own mortality....

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 25/01/2026 19:38

absolut not.

Cat1504 · 25/01/2026 19:38

No ….not for all the money in the world

Pootles34 · 25/01/2026 19:38

For me - no, but I am priveledged to be able to afford a house, feed my children and be generally safe and warm.

goingtotown · 25/01/2026 19:39

No

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 25/01/2026 19:39

I’d happily trade the last ten years of my life, but not the next ten

peakyblenders · 25/01/2026 19:40

This is going to vary hugely depending on age. For me the answer would be no way, I’m pushing 60 and every day is precious. If you’d asked me when I was 20, my answer might have been different.

Heyhelga · 25/01/2026 19:40

42 to 52. Yes. Early retirement, I could enjoy the rest of my life without money worries, travel the world, and ensure the kids are set up nicely too.

Fibrous · 25/01/2026 19:41

I would pay £10k to roll back ten years physically but stay in the same point of time. But not 2 mill to scroll forward.

Tammygirl12 · 25/01/2026 19:41

In my optimistic view I’m going to live to 90. You can shorten that to 80 for the money!!

Pinepeak2434 · 25/01/2026 19:41

No way

bowda · 25/01/2026 19:41

Not now, no, I’m almost 50. In my 20s or even 30s I would have jumped at the chance.

BangFlash · 25/01/2026 19:42

I initially thought you meant I'd die 10 years earlier than I would have, in which case maybe, the last 10 years is often not fantastic and I could have a great time until then with that money.

But moving me along 10 years - no, I'd miss the next 10 years of (hopefully) good health.

This. In the past two years I have spent a lot of time in a hospice, elderly wards at the hospital and a nursing home. There is little joy in old age for a lot of people.

user1471453601 · 25/01/2026 19:43

I'd do it in a heartbeat. But I'm 75, my child is in their 50s.

As my will leaves everything to my child, and the chances of me living a healthy life for another 10 years are zero, because I'm fragile now, I plead no contest.

Nancylancy · 25/01/2026 19:44

Interesting question! My first instinct would be to say yes! How much easier and better quality life could be, if money was no object. No stress, no worries, I could afford private healthcare, give my family a great life. It's sad that in reality having money really does make life better.

But at the end of the day what would be the point if I'd lost the best years of my family life, my kids being young, and probably my last decade before health starts to decline? Absolutely none.

Time is the only thing you can't get back, you can't put a price on your health (obviously generalising that I'll be in less good health when I'm 10 years older).

Do you just age in your body though, or do you have 10 years worth of memories that you've just jumped forwards from?

Nessiesfoodprovider · 25/01/2026 19:57

If I was able to delete the 19-29 years, I would do it in a heartbeat. Two awful abusive relationships which left me with C-PTSD.
It would mean wiping out university but that's what mature students are for...

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2026 20:00

Absolutely not. My life and my time is worth more than the cash.
saying this from an enormous point of priviledge where I don’t have to worry about bills and myself and everyone I love is pretty healthy and happy right now. If I wasn’t in that position I think I’d probably feel differently although still not sure I’d necessarily do it. Would certainly be something I’d consider.

Meadowfinch · 25/01/2026 20:20

Not a chance.

mondaytosunday · 25/01/2026 20:27

Nope. Not even double.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 25/01/2026 20:31

I think I would. It'd set the kids up.

But the youngest is only 13. I'd prefer to do it once he was an adult.

pavillion1 · 25/01/2026 20:33

Yes absolutely, I work in care and those last 10 years are grim for many .. I’d do it like a shot
