Would you trade 10 years of your life for £5 million?

Inspired by an old Black Mirror episode I watched. Got me wondering, if it was possible to age 10 years in a minute (but you haven’t gone forward in time & no one else has aged, just you) for £5 million would you do it? What about for £10m or £15m?

No. I'm in my sixties. Time is more precious than money.

No

ZenNudist · 26/01/2026 17:47

No.
If I could be guaranteed to live to 95 I'd trade and oyster live til 85. Maybe... I'm not expecting those last 10 years to be any good!

Gahr · 26/01/2026 17:47

No, but I would trade it for my pet to live as long as I do.

MissAnthr0pe · 26/01/2026 17:48

No chance! More money is "nice to have" but won't make a huge difference to my life. Ageing 10 years overnight would though...

Miranda65 · 26/01/2026 17:52

It's tempting! I think the older we get (I'm 60), the more conscious we are of not wanting to go on and on and on, getting ever more decrepit. If someone could promise me that I'd die an instant, pain-free death at 70, I think I'd have a fabulous 10 years of travelling and spending my millions, and then happily shuffle off this mortal coil with zero regrets. Sign me up......

Yes absolutely if I was to live to 90. Peoples last decade is often not to be aspired to these days.

LookingThroughGlass · 26/01/2026 17:56

Yes - I'd do it for nothing because it would mean I could retire straight away.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 26/01/2026 17:57

Absolutely!! Means I’d have 10 years less to work in the NHS and would be closer in age to my partner. BUT- do I get pension contributions for those 10 years? And have I been using retinol?

Running around after primary age kids in my 50’s might suck though

Those saying they'd "happily lose the last 10 years of their lives" interest me. It assumes you will live to old age. Sadly, lots of us won't. Losing the last 10 years of your life may mean you actually only live another 18 months, 5yrs, 10 years. Even if you're only 30 or 40 now. You never know what's coming down the pike.

No, I wouldn't trade.

Sprogonthetyne · 26/01/2026 18:11

If the kids stay the same age and I just change from a mid 30's parent to a mid 40's parent with £5m, I think I would do it (thoughwouldmaybe hagglefor £10m). I could spend the rest of my DC's childhood with them, open up loads of opertunities for them, and set them up realy well for adult life. I would die 10 years younger, but my life expectancy will probably go up if I'm a millionaire with the best food, gym, lifestyle and medical care. Even if it doesn't, I'd still be able to see the kids well into adulthood before my time is likly to come.

One of the great sadnesses of life is the disparity between the life span of humans and animals.

ReignOfError · 26/01/2026 18:24

I am 70, so it seems a bit too much of a gamble. Twenty years ago, I’d have said yes.

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 26/01/2026 18:37

Yes for all the above 🤣 that few million would buy me a LOT of cosmetic surgery to reverse time!
