Could anyone share their experiences with parenting classes? Were they useful for you, and how did they help?

Thank you.

Pretty normal for grandparents to be less strict!

So she used consequences, why can't you?

The view of mil that his df was similar is concerning as is his distance from bad behaviour and discipline. You are in danger if falling into being the bad cop if you tell him off. It is both your responsibilities to parent your child, ideally together and consistently. You presumably realise private schools can manage out children whose behaviour does not fit or whose needs they cannot support.

I understand this; there was a boy in our oldest child's class who had to leave because of disruptive and generally poor behaviour.

I continue to stay in contact with his mother, and he currently attends a state school that meets his needs.

I’d feel deeply embarrassed if the school brought his bad behavior to my attention. If I were confident that he would begin school, behave and follow rules, I wouldn’t feel so anxious, but I just have my doubts about him.

Why are you avoiding any questions about changing your parenting?

You also have an older child? What have you done differently with your 4yo if they were not behaving the same at his age? Why does he feel so empowered to be defiant if the elder did not or look for attention by behaving badly?

Yes, we also have two more kids who are 10 years old and 2 years old. Since our 10-year-old has always been very well-behaved, I'm having a tough time managing this situation as I've never dealt with it before.

Our 4-year-old isn't acting out for attention; he receives plenty of love and attention already. He has shown good behavior today (I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself). He became a bit upset when his younger brother knocked over some toys, creating a mess, which is understandable since he prefers everything to be organised.

Excuse me? I am not avoiding any questions regarding changes to my parenting; the entire discussion revolves around me seeking the right assistance, and in the meantime, I am making an effort.

It appears that you feel somewhat entitled, and I am obligated to respond to your questions.

What happens when your child hits you at the moment?

I don't think you need a parenting class. You could read what you need in a few minutes online.

You also need to sort your relationship so that you aren't doing all of the parenting. But that's a much bigger fix.
