Crème egg disappointment.

Aside from the fact that they use to come out in March and it was exciting waiting for the first one,

Ivw just eaten one for the first time in about 15 years. Ate it in two bites with my front teeth. How depressing😟

Used to have to get your molars into the top as it was so thick with chocolate. And had to sort of gnaw through the chocolate. And the thick chocolate shell is like a skin.

Now 2 bites and it gone. What a disappointment it turned out to be😭

I have not been into M&S for some time now but their chocolate eggs and mini choc eggs are worthwhile especially as I have read in the papers that bags of Cadbury mini eggs will have less in them. I will wait until nearer to Easter. Usually farm foods sell the creme eggs in a box and are a fair bit cheaper than other shops. I am sure I will still adore them .Lidl and Aldi usually do some splendid big chocolate eggs.

ScaredAndPanicky · 18/01/2026 22:10

They changed the chocolate back in 2015.
Cadbury's Creme Egg outrage and other 'ruined' recipes - BBC News
And although the overall weight has stayed similar that doesn't mean that they haven't increased the filling and downsized the thickness of the chocolate.

They came for our biscuits. They came for our tea. Now they want our eggs.

It is so sad. I had one last year and it was awful. I binned it.

A lot of chocolate is ruined now and I don't know what else to buy. Maybe it's for the best but I'd happily be fat if it meant chocolate was nice again.

I still like a toblerone though.

I bought a box of 5 to share this weekend then ate the whole box and didn't tell anyone. I'm a disgrace. I scoffed two in one sitting and had such an intense sugar crash I fell asleep in the kitchen yesterday. I am officially not going to have any more as I clearly have addiction issues.

Last year my DH bought me a dark chocolate egg for Easter from Lidl. It wasn't a British make and was lovely. So I'm going to look out for them this year.

I buy most of my chocolate at Lidl or M&S now.

Cadbury, along with other chocolate companies aren't really chocolate anymore.

toddlertoenail · 18/01/2026 23:18

The biscoff eggs are much better!!

crazycatladie · 18/01/2026 23:26

I love the M and S mini eggs. Lots of chocolate and a bit bigger than mini eggs.

smallglassbottle · 18/01/2026 23:26

Ah Cadbury's creme eggs. I imagine they're made from chocolate flavoured chip pan grease, solidified with brown crayons and sweetened with some, as yet, unidentifiable sweetener and filled with artificial lard and coloured with yellow donkey phlegm. Mmm, so yummy 🙄

catinateacup · 18/01/2026 23:28

I always hated them even in the 80s, OP; but I agree they’re even shitter now.

Just about everything to go with all those iconic British treat brands of the past has been crapped up. I never much liked Easter eggs (I have zero sweet tooth), but I liked getting them, and creme eggs were such a tradition! Nowadays anything like that is just grim.

One thing I did love as a child were Cadbury’s Animals biscuits, digestives shaped like animals with those big ridges of nice chunky creamy chocolate on the reverse. And Cadbury’s Fingers - it wasn’t a birthday party without Animals and Fingers!

Bought some again when DD was little assuming it would be a lovely nostalgic experience — no such bloody luck, they had been crapped up and made tiny, no animal shapes, no thick ridgy chocolate, just greasy waxy stuff on tiny stale-tasting crappy “biscuits” the size of cat biscuits. Such a disappointment. 😞 My DD hates Cadbury’s and will eat hardly any chocolate at all because it’s all so bad these days — greasy pale waxy palm oil shite. Probably better for her, but what a shame.

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 23:30

You've reminded me to resist buying the bloody things this year. They are truly awful now. You're right, the chocolate used to be so thick. I can remember having them as a child and taking ages to get to the filling!

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 23:32

Also when did they stop putting sweets and things inside Easter eggs? They are so boring now!

OrangeisthenewBrown · 18/01/2026 23:33

Creme eggs are absolutely revolting, imo! They're hyper sweet: so sweet that they make my teeth hurt! To be fair, I haven't eaten one for at least 10 years though, so maybe they've changed.

Nailed it.

But they used to be lovely.
Really lovely.

I only like them from the freezer , take a while to nibble through that way too

Except it IS chocolate. Legally they cannot call it chocolate unless it contains a certain amount of cocoa - which it does.

They haven’t? The smallest Cadburys mini eggs Easter eggs and cadburys buttons, has them inside the egg. The £1.50/£1.75 ones. I had one last night with the mini eggs inside

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/01/2026 09:21

They’ve definitely reduced in calories. I swear they used to be about 225 calories and now they’re 177.

I hate Cadbury’s chocolate now. It’s the only chocolate k can leave untouched for months. It was just a hopeful scoff that failed sadly.

Mini eggs are outrageous now. There was a whole sub on Reddit about the cost of them last year.

A big bag is £17!!!

Rowgtfc72 · 19/01/2026 09:29

Dh has just paid £16 for a kilo of mini eggs.......
I've never been a fan of Cadburys chocolate. Its always felt funny in my mouth.

Oh! I must be buying the wrong eggs then! 😆

I saw a bag of minieggs in b&m yesterday for £5.50 :/

Wasnt a massive bag or anything

Chocolate is just more expensive now. Unfortunately people aren't willing to pay for proper chocolate so we end up with chocolate "flavoured" palm oil in everything.

It's been shit since it was Americanised. Americans just don't get chocolate.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 19/01/2026 15:28

It's always pronounced 'cream' egg around here. Although I note the product spells 'creme' it doesn't have the French accents as spelled by OP so a French pronunciation 'crème' like 'crem' may not be correct either. Any insights?

It's most likely autocorrect. It's added the accent in my post as an autocorrect, so likely did the same for OP.

Cadbury’s chocolate has been crap since Kraft bought the company and changed everything to make more profit. We are slowly heading towards eating American style “chocolate”. In particular they stopped using Dairy Milk chocolate to make Crème Eggs in 2015.
