Morning all
This isn't a survey dressed up. I'm looking to replace my car later this year and curious what car you have and do you like it?

As it's only me now (and small dog) I have a Peugeot 208 and really love it. I don't do huge miles but it's zippy enough on the motorway when I do. I wouldn't have considered a Peugeot before but DP has one (bigger model) and liked it.

Mine is a Hyundai i10 which I love. It's a decade old now and has never given me any trouble - I've replaced the battery and it's had new brake pads etc. but otherwise it's very reliable. When it eventually dies (hopefully not for a long time) I'll be getting another Hyundai.

DH has a Chevrolet Captiva and it has been a nightmare. Issues with the handbrake, issues with it making strange noises, issues with overheating - never again!

Mini Cooper - fun to drive and surprisingly spacious.

We have a big boring family car but my car is a cute little 25 year old VW bug that my partner found and fixes up for me x x

I’ve got a cupra born EV and just about to swap it for a Renault 5 EV. DH is looking at polestars for our family car.

I test drive the born and admittedly it was wonderful but not sure I’m ready to go EV, even though I can do it through work. The range wasn’t quite enough for me. I hear the polestars are a nice alternative to Tesla’s.

I had a Renault 5 back in the day (not a GTT sadly, a GTX in white so I pretended!), I think I’d love another! For the cool factor!

I have a fiat 500 which is brilliant. It’s like driving a go cart! It fits down the tiny roads where I live and is great to park. I’d like it to be quicker so I’ll have to get the arbarth version next time…

ReignOfError · 11/01/2026 11:19

Mazda 3 which I love to bits. Will get another when the time comes.

I can’t see the OP wanting a big estate car if it’s just for her and her dog.

I have a Kia Nero plug-in hybrid, which I really like. Daughter and her boyfriend have a Kia Stonic which is similar, but smaller, and suits them very well.

SqueakyDinosaur · 11/01/2026 11:26

Mini Clubman. Absolutely love it. It's so practical for me - the back doors make it easy to get heavy or bulky stuff in or out with no sill to lift over; the back seats take 10 seconds to put down if you need to, and you can easily get 4 adults in it. Sadly they stopped making them in 2023, so I'll be driving this one as long as possible (it's my second).

Lol no i don't need an estate. My post was more just about curiosity than recommendations.

VW Polo - love it.

Cat1504 · 11/01/2026 11:33

A golf ….I love it….big enough boot ( go camping a lot) ….enough room for 3 boosters ( I have 3 GD who are regularly in the car)

PensionMention · 11/01/2026 11:34

I have a Toyota Yaris now this is a good small car and Toyotas routinely come out as one of the most reliable cars.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/01/2026 11:35

Another with an i10 - had it 6 months - previous cars were Kugas and Dusters so it’s small for me.

I love it - it’s economical to run, comfortable and fits myself and 3 adult kids easily- even got a 5ft Christmas tree in it!

Down sides - it’s not hugely powerful, especially up hill! But I’m not a boy racer anymore (my Subaru days are long gone), it has a lot of tech which you have to remember to turn off if you don’t want to trying to drive for you! It’s a bit of a nag - The driver in front has moved 5 inches, Check the back seat for belongings, agree to drive safely etc

But I have zero regrets - I really like it.

Ithinkofawittyusernamethenforgetit · 11/01/2026 11:37

Alfa Romeo MiTo - the Junior 0.9 that until this year was zero road tax (now £20) but mostly for its styling. Italian cars for me!

Lotus34 · 11/01/2026 11:41

Audi A1 - not really! Only reason I changed car and downsized was so that I could share with young adult DD to save on costs. It looks lovely but that’s where the benefits stop I’m afraid! In reality it’s far too low and small, rubbish suspension so you really feel every bump in the road. The 1l engine isn’t too bad, it doesn’t seem to struggle too much but can be frustrating when you’re needing to speed up quickly to get out of a junction/merge onto motorway etc. It’s only 2 years old and has had constant faults and warning lights

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 11/01/2026 11:57

Recently got a Toyota Yaris and I love it. Breakdown guys often recommended them when I asked.

If I'd had slightly more cash (I always buy cars outright) I'd have gone for a self-charging hybrid Yaris.

Catlady1982 · 11/01/2026 11:59

I have a 10 year old Renault Twingo. Bought last year with on 16000 miles on it so it was practically brand new. It’s awesome, I love it. Such a fun, cute little thing and surprisingly powerful for a 1litre engine. It’s a top end model so has a parking sensor which I love.
I get loads of compliments on it cos you don’t see many of them around.
Fan fact, they have a rear engine and LOTS of cup/bottle holder space (like ridiculous amounts)
Downside, only 2 rear seatbelts

TallShip · 11/01/2026 12:09

I have a Toyota which I love but my DH complains about! He drives it as much as me because it’s more economical (hybrid) than his VW (diesel), but complains every time! Yes, it’s not as intuitive as his but it suits me.

TheDogsMother · 11/01/2026 12:13

Fiat 500 Abarth which is brilliant fun to drive also a 20 year old Freelander which I bought from new. We live rurally and the roads are pretty terrible in winter so the Freelander is perfect for the conditions.

Whosthetabbynow · 11/01/2026 12:14

Mini Cooper S

JBJ · 11/01/2026 12:16

10 year old Peugeot Partner that I’ve converted into a camper van, but still has the option of seats in the back. I love it and will only swap when I can afford a bigger van.

My husband has a Skoda kodiaq bloody love it.
I have Nissan Juke 23 plate and also love it but the Skoda has the edge.

What is it you like about it? I have been considering it as a possible new car. Is it petrol manual?

luckylavender · 11/01/2026 13:03

I recently got a new Toyota Aygo after years of driving VWs. Took me a while to get used to it but I quite like it now.

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/01/2026 13:06

Got an Audi A3. Bought it new a couple of years ago. Love it - great to drive and a decent size for me and my dogs. Trading it in this year and will likely get another as I love it and haven’t seen anything I like better.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/01/2026 13:10

Hyundai i10, I’m on my second. Love it.
