How often do you get your boiler serviced?

We haven’t had ours serviced for a few years due to lack of spare cash. Is it 100% necessary to do it every single year?

It is if you don't want to invalidate your home insurance yes. A lot (all?) of them have a clause that failure to regularly (annually) service your boiler will invalidate them.

Edit - specifically home emergency cover.

Jugendstiel · 10/01/2026 14:18

Once a year. It is one of those jobs DH does automatically. Left to me, I'd forget until there was a problem.

It also means that if there is a problem, the engineer prioritises us over people who only call him every few years, as we are regular customers.

BG2015 · 10/01/2026 14:19

Once a year. Costs £65

loadypoady · 10/01/2026 14:20

Annually.
if you want to sell you have to provide your certificate.

JDM625 · 10/01/2026 14:20

Annually.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/01/2026 14:23

We get ours done annually as part of a home care agreement that also includes emergency heating, plumbing and drain cover

holly97 · 10/01/2026 14:23

We are actually looking to sell this year so will have to get it done.

Once a year - on or near installation date to keep the warranty valid.
It is £75 in my local area and well worth it to know it is working properly and if needed the warranty will cover most faults.

MerylSqueak · 10/01/2026 14:27

Annually because it is a condition of the warranty. The engineer says we're in the tiny minority of clients who he has installed boilers for that do this.

I didn't know that about home insurance. Thanks.

CatAsstrophe · 10/01/2026 14:28

Annually. My boiler has a 10 year guarantee, and an annual service is required as part of the T&C.

Prior to getting a new boiler, I had massively overpriced British Gas/HomeCare cover and as part of the cover, the boiler was serviced annually.

Appleandcidergravy · 10/01/2026 14:30

Our boiler gets done annually- the plumber phones us to book it in
We also have the gas fire serviced every other year (his suggestion)- as it doesn't get used very often....

RecordBreakers · 10/01/2026 14:36

Annually

Thewonderfuleveryday · 10/01/2026 14:37

Every summer.

Nincompoo · 10/01/2026 14:37

Every year.

When we move in to this house the boiler hadn’t been serviced for years and when we had it done it was condemned and had a DO NOT USE noticed put on it. When the engineer took the cover off it was full of soot, he said that it would have been leaking carbon monoxide for years! Thankfully, it was in the garage.

CO detectors are absolutely vital.

ColdBlueSky · 10/01/2026 14:37

Annually - the plumber books the appointment for the follow-up year when he finishes the service.

Meadowfinch · 10/01/2026 14:38

Once a year in January. I want the boiler to last as long as possible

MopAndBucketLady · 10/01/2026 14:39

Yearly otherwise my insurance is void.
Despite that I still would.

loislovesstewie · 10/01/2026 15:04

Every year, to preserve the warranty. Also to preserve my peace of mind.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2026 15:05

Annually as its a condition of our boiler cover

EmpressOfTheThread · 10/01/2026 15:07

Every September.

GentleSheep · 10/01/2026 15:07

Annually. It's getting on in age so really needs to be checked.

Hurdygurdy123 · 10/01/2026 15:09

never! looks like I'm in a minority.

JBJ · 10/01/2026 15:10
